A - pours a clear golden colour with a white head that retains and laces

S - Plenty of malt. Not much else

T - small citrus flavours backed up with grains

M - light to medium body and medium carbonation

O - just an easy drinking lager. The lion version is better

Transcribed from old notes; I drank this concoction while visiting Sri Lanka in the 1980's. At the time, I thought it was the worst beer I had ever tasted, now I know of many much worse brews. But this beer was so traumatic tasting that it made me start taking notes to record my experiences (Thus perhaps I would not repeat the error of my previous ways). 500 ml bottle (I think). Poured a translucent golden color with a sudsy white head that disappeared quickly. Aroma was a bit sour with coconut and rice. The flavor seemed to mirror the aroma with a bit of roting fruit thrown in for good measure. The mouthfeel was watery, thin and weak. And, the finish was anti-climatic--this beer steamed hard on a downhill course all the way to the end. Overall: not recommended.

reasonable beer from sri lanka this one. doesnt quite deliver on its promise, but still a crisp drinkable beer.

light yellow color with a foamy white head and fizzy bubbles surging up the glass. looks impressive. the smell is malty and a little floral. flavor is of the same nature but as the color suggests, isnt full enuff. taste reflects malt but it lacks body and complexity. has a nice clean feel which makes this easy to consume, but the taste doesnt compare with what the nose is telling you. still the level of malt is good enuff to make you ready to drink another.

not a beer youd go to the ends of the earth for, but worth trying for something new. coming from a country loaded with bad lagers, its not hard to rate this as a fair beer as it shows up the mediocrity locally. this despite the fact this is no classic. you could easily do a lot worse for your dollar that this brew.

The all malt lager from Sri Lanka. Recently a friend of mine was on vacation there and brought me 4 bottles and a can (one of a kind) from the McCallum brewery. The 3 coins all malt lager reminded me a bit of KEO from Cyprus. Malty flavour and aroma with high drinkability rating. I could drink a six-pack of this beer and don't mind. IMHO it lacks bitterness that would make it quite the beer/
