Got this one at the LCBO while at home this past October

From a bomber into a snifter
Bottled 25 September 2014
OG: 12.3 degrees Plato

APPEARANCE: Pours a three finger, medium looking, fluffy, off-white head with excellent retention. Mahogany brown body with higher levels of carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full foam cap and sticks to the sides of the glass. A nice full wisp remains until the end and leaves lots of lacing down the glass. Good looking brew all around.

SMELL: Caramel, nut aromas, with light black and chocolate malts as well. Some grassy hop notes in there too. Good stuff.

TASTE: Caramel, nut flavors and chocolate up front, with a bold and lingering finish of roasted nuts, caramel and toffee sweetness, light grassy hops, touches of dark chocolate and some burnt flavors as well. Bold and interesting. Good stuff here too.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry.

OVERALL: Another more-than-solid Black Oak brew. It seems like these guys know what they’re doing and make sure they nail a beer before releasing it out on the open market. This one, their Nutcracker Porter and Ten Bitter Years are all brews I’d happily drink on a regular basis. Well worth checking out if you’re a fan of the style. Cheers!

Look - Dark brown with a tan coloured head.
Smell - I sense a bit of chocolate and toasty malt.
Taste - Sweet, nutty, bready, not bitter at all, a tad smokey.
Feel - Soft and creamy. Mild carbonation.
Overall - Nice brown ale.

650 ml bottle purchased for under $5 CDN from LCBO. Served well-chilled into an Alexander's Keith's pint glass.

Appearance - Solid 1.5 fingers of ivory head, leaving some sticky lacing on the sides of its glass during its rapid retreat. Clear dark honey brown color, with a few copper hues thrown in. Little carbonation is present.

Smell - Nuts, especially walnuts and almonds, with a slightly chocolaty undercurrent. Faint floral note bursting with energy. But overall nuts are the star here.

Taste - Nuts again with a slightly spicy earthiness that takes over and doesn't let go. Well ingrained mild hop flavors blend well with the malts in play here. Pretty tasty overall

Mouthfeel - Watery and a touch on the thin side, this is more noticeable due to the lack of carbonation. Medium- light body with a moderately dry finish. I was expecting a little more distinction here.

Overall - A tasty nut brown ale that has good aromas and flavors just is lacking abit win terms of texture and feel. Still a pretty good brew from this Ontario Brewery that has quickly gained my attention with my first couple of experiences.
