This one goes out to my friend Connor, my idol Herbert Grönemeyer and Bochum in general! Tief im Westen!

.5L Bügelflasche, best before 11/21/11.

Now this is what a Pils should look like. The color is clear gold, with high effervescence. I was able to coax a volcano-shaped head out of this beer that towered a good inch over the rim. The retention and lacing are just legendary.

The aroma is very herbal, lagery and lightly hoppy.

The flavor is fine. Fiege Pils has a nice bitter bite to it, something missing from many of the mass-marketed German pilsners. The hop flavor is pretty average, with grassy and leafy notes. Malt backbone is in the background for sure. The finish is clean, and the bitterness really lingers. The mouthfeel is soft, the carbonation actually quite mellow. Refreshing and drinkable.

Solid Pils from Fiege. Bochum!

out of a flip top bottle with dinner in Bochum
Pours a light golden almost yellow color with a frothy two finger head that lingered and left a slight smalllacing
Smelled of hops with a bit of fresh greenery.
Tasted of greens with a bit of grains and a lot of bitterness typical for pilsner
Mouth was a bit shallow overpowered by bitterness from the hops
a drinkable beer but not one of the better pilsners I have had

Pours a bright golden color, with a huge, froth head.

Smells of slightly skunky wheat, mingling into herbal, white bread accompanied malts. Hops offer a wet leaf quality, while the malts remain pleasantly on par.

Has a higher, bubbly carbonation, with a nice, soft mouthfeel. Its body is light and refreshing, with a crisp hoppiness providing enough depth during the clean finish.

Tastes of bready malts, a hint of toffee, which opens up the palate to fresh cut grass, straw and garden herbs. The beer's hop profile also creates a crisp dryness, perfectly balanced by doughy malts, revealing a mellow white bread quality. Finishes truly clean, dry with soft wheat and a coppery note.

Perfect, classic example for a well made Pilsener. Everything synergizes flawlessly, complimenting the herbal hops, while maintaining a great drinkability among a refreshing crispness.

I don't hold Beers from the "Ruhrgebiet" in a very high regard,so this was very surprising.
