330 ml. bottle poured into a Pint glass

Appearance... Dark brown/black beer with head colour beige of 1,5 fingers aprox

Aroma... some malt, grass and grapes (dominant).

Taste... Some fruity notes and then malt and hopes, touch of dryness lasting in mouth all the time.

Mouthfeel... medium/full body and soft carbonation

Overall... a very recomendable ale, to revisit .

330ml bottle bought from Portland Wines, Whaley Bridge

Poured a deep mahogany brown colour. Nice creamy tan head poured very tight, thick and foamy then faded slowly to nice thin smooth coating... light carbonation... some decent sticky lacing...

Aroma - Lots of roasted nuttiness mixed with caramel malts, brown sugar, some cardboard / earthy hints, dark fruits (figs and prunes), musty traces, toasted bread, light butterscotch notes, herbal...

Taste - rich roasted nutty sweetness, cola, caramel malts, molasses, toasted bread, just the slightest hint of smoke / tobacco, faint metallic notes, nice peppery / grassy hops cut through the maltiness, fig and raisin fruitiness...

Feel - Smooth and creamy... Medium / full bodied... pretty drinkable...

Overall - A decent example of a brown ale... well balanced and drinkable... worth a try

Cherry oxblood with beige film that rings.
Treacle, black bread, and cherry stone on the nose - no hops, oddly.
Brown pan, cola, and peanuts up front with modest orange rind and pine sap hops.
Dried lemon rind ending and dry finish.

Fuggles and Goldings plus Challenger, Citra, Chinook, and Summit

Where are all those hops? Defo not an IBA (as the "recipe" space on the label claims) and not very brown either: brown sugar and red berry more than anything. Not really worth the relaunch/boutique branding.

Tame, overall.

330ml bottle. More American-style beer from an English brewer? Look at that hop bill!

This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber hue, with two chubby fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and lazily bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent sudsy flickering flame lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of sweet, almost stale-seeming orange and apple juice, lightly biscuity caramel malt, white wine grapes, and the faintest of leafy, grassy hops. The taste is more of the same - wan bready caramel malt, mixed, acid-free fruit juice, an indistinct herbal spiciness, and very understated piney, leafy hops.

The carbonation is rather tame, hardly an edge or bubble to be found, the body on the light side of medium weight, and sort of clammy and pithy in its attempt at smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the plodding malt seeing little challenge from anything, especially in the realm of hops.

I'm guessing that they used many different types of hop, but not much of any one kind. Nothing particularly 'resonates' with this offering - even the malt is pretty uninspiring, by English standards alone. Easy enough to put back, I suppose, but not at all interesting or worth further investigation.

Toffee-dipped black cherries winning on the nose here, with a gorgeous, dark mahogany brown colour; low head retention; light carbonation & slight residual sugar, cherry nib & leafy hop flavours with a somewhat biscuity finish. Nice hop-malt balance on this.

Bottled
Pours a mid brown body with reddish hue and big white head that pretty much disappears altogether
They're are some traces of an American Brown ale in the flavour and aroma but it's altogether too muted especially with the thin body.

Pours very dark amber/brown, nice frothy head, followed by sticky lacing.
Smells of toasted malts, low caramel leafy hops, and fruits (apples).
Taste is of sweet biscuity malts, with a mild caramel, but fruity also, with acidic apple and pear, citrus and grapes. Nutty with hints of honey. Spicy feel, pepper. Hops are herbal in the finish, midly bitter, giving off dry autumn leaves and slight tobacco.
Body is a tiny bit too fizzy, but still goes down easy. Toasted grains/bread in the aftertaste.
Nothing incredible, but seems to be a nice session beer. Has lots of hops, so i expected the taste to be a little more complex, but it almost delivers anyway. Tap version might actually be even better.
