I expected more since this brewery makes top notch beers. Pours a dark amber orange with off white head that is decent. Smells of earth tones, dewy leaves and herbal spices. Nice creamy caramel malt tones and floral hops are subtle. The taste upfront is a creamy chewy earth taste then comes a nice caramel malt tones, great mouthfeel, refreshing, light enough to drink a few, not a bad October session beer, pack a few for the football games.

22oz into a weizen glass. Pours a deep reddish amber w/ a big fluffy eggshell head, plenty of lace, lively carbonation. True to style.

Aroma is bready, malty, fruity, and sweet. Again, spot-on for the style.

Taste follows nose. Nice fruity, bready malt with just a touch of graininess. Very clean.

Mouthfeel is crisp, medium bodied, very drinkable. Good carbonation keeps it fairly light on the palate.

Overall a solid rendition of the style. I've had a couple local Märzens that trended toward over-hopping, but Snoqualmie appears not to have succumbed to this temptation. Very nice.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #57 (October 2011):

LOOK: Big head, bright copper

SMELL: Dried hay, caramelized sugar, herbal, yeast

TASTE: Thick malt, smooth, grainy, toasty, grape skin, hop bitterness, herbal, nutty yeast, clean

Not the same pale fest beer you’ll get in the tents in munich during oktoberfest, but defi- nitely lands solid as a märzen, even with the use of ale yeast. Brewer does a great job of keeping this one very clean and, of course, drinkable, both of which are expected. damn tasty.

22oz bottle split into two large snifters

Pours a dirty amber cloudy, very little head, medium amount of slow fine active carbonation. Lots of sediment had collected on the bottom -- it sat in my fridge for some time before getting poured. Smell is lemony, yeasty, malty.

Taste is very lemony, and otherwise pretty bland. Fair amount of yeastiness.

Mouthfeel is dry, slightly gritty. Overall, this is an OK beer.

A - Pours a deep, hazy amber-orange, with a medium off-white head, with good head retention and lacing.

S - Smell is somewhat faint, but is of toasted grains/malts, a hint of caramel, some floral hops, and a hint of honey.

T - The taste delivers! but not in the expected fashion of the style. This one tastes of toasted malts, balanced with a moderate amount of earthy, nutty hops, hints of orange peel, and just a bit of caramel. Crisp, clean finish.

M - Light-ish/medium body, with moderate carbonation, and a clean finish.

O - Overall, I'd say this one doesn't really taste like a Marzen to me at all, but regardless, it's a good beer I can see myself coming back to. Refreshing, but flavorful, it'll be good to have around during the fall.

A: Poured a coppery orange, with a decent finger of head with good retention and lacing.

S: Very floral and spicy hops with a nice malty background containing gains and biscuit.

T: Citrus and spicy hops are the first thing I taste, the malt backs it up pretty good with nice lightly toasted notes and a caramel like flavor.

M: Medium body, sharp flavor and good carbonation.

D: This is a nice beer, though it is not at märzen. Been to Germany and Oktoberfest many time and they do not taste anything like this, good beer otherwise.

Poured into straight pint glass. Poured a nice medium amber color with about 3/4 inch of tan head that good retention and lacing.

The beer had a very nice malt aroma with just enough spicy hops to be interesting. The flavor was very similar, just more focused and detailed. A solid, multi-flavored malt bill that was topped off by a nice hop tang complemented the foundation well.

The body was just short of full, but was still solid and well balanced. Drinkability was great, the rare time I didn't get bored with a 22. I could have easily drank 1 or 2 more.

Overall, a very nice brew (as seems typical for Snoqualmie) that goes down easy and is certainly worth your time. For the record, the label is now different from what's shown here, it's now a black and gray label with the falls still centered.
