Poured from 22oz bomber into my Reissdorf Kölsch stange.

Appearance: medium-light golden hue with a light haze and strong effervescence. Head poured two fingers of frothy white foam and has hardly subsided at all. Great!

Smell: relatively sweet malt aroma with a little graininess and not much in the way of hops. Smells good to me.

Taste: sweetish and very lightly fruity malt, with just a little hint of that graininess from the aroma. Bitterness is low, but it's there. It works for me.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a pretty nice creaminess. I can dig it.

Overall: this Kölsch really works for me. It's refreshing and just about all i need from the style. Kudos!

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Deep gold with a slight haze. Thin layer of head remained throughout...unfortunately, that is the only positive thing I can say about this beer.

Smell: Lemon, citrus, and an odd phenolic character that borderlines solventy

Taste: Dry and overly astringent. No malt character at all, except for maybe a bit of harsh graininess. Bitterness is too high. I'd understand if a beer was one dimensional, but this one is zero dimensional. I'd imagine it would taste like a bottle-conditioned natural light that had been stored in a boiler room.

Mouthfeel: Watery-thin, with extreme levels of carbonation. Kolsch (or kolsch-style) beers are gently carbonated. The carbonation level in this beer is closer to a belgian style ale, or even a hefeweizen. Unfortunately, the excessive carbonation only exacerbates the lack of flavor and character in this beer.

Overall: I should probably point out that I am a huge fan of Kolschbier. I have been to Koln, tasted many commercial examples of the years, and have brewed them at home as well as commercially. I brought this beer back from my trip to Seattle, and now I'm bummed that I wasted the space. I haven't tried any of this brewery's other beers, but I would certainly give them a try since they couldn't be worse than this.

Poured from the bottle into a stange glass.

A real murky, cloudy, and dull lemon brown body, with some faint rising cola carbonation, and even some floaties. Head is actually a soapy and fairly retention white of two fingers and forms nicely. However, this is not an appealing looking brew let alone a Kolsch.

Some good toasty white bread sensations on the nose, also some sweet nearly caramel sense. Not particularly crisp but quite doughy and thick. There's a hint of bile sensations hiding but luckily it's small. Finishes with just enough hint of light baked bread and malt action.

Palate though delivers nicely for the style. Crisp bread action, with a slightly fruity vinous quality. This is quite hop forward than most Kolsch's I've had also with a nice grass and perhaps a hint of floral airy quailty. Definitely a good hop sting on the finish.

This beer doesn't look very nice, but luckily the taste delivers nicely.

Appearance has a light hazy yellow color supporting a thick fluffy head leaving spotty lace. Aroma is soft with the smell of the spalt hops and malt. Taste is very crisp showing a little more hop than bisquety malt leaving a bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium light with crisp carbonation. Maybe not as soft and rounded to the style, but still refreshing.

Poured into 9oz pilsener glass. Poured a gently hazy straw-gold color with over a quarter-inch of white head that had moderate retention and light lacing.

The aroma and flavors were closely matched. Both started out with some very nice, earthy grains and continued on with an appropriate amount of hops to provide a good balance and just a gentle tickle of zing.

The body was good, nicely smooth and even, although the finish was just a wee bit sticky. Drinkability was very good, this was the rare time I didn't mind a beer being in the hated 22oz format and wished I had another right away. Overall, a very nice take on the style. The beer was smooth and easy to drink. While I didn't think this Kolsch was the equal to that made by Chuckanut (which is my favorite brew of theirs, and my personal standard for the style), these types are C-nut's specialty. Snoqualmie did a fine job with this brew and I'll be grabbing a few more bottles. A must try if you see it.
