STS PilsSTS Pils
Notes: STS Pils is a classic German-style pilsner but with a Russian River twist because we dry hop this beer with a small amount of European hops. It is straw in color and will often have a slight haze due to the fact that there is a small amount of yeast left in the beer. This beer is hop-forward with a firm malt foundation, strong lager yeast characteristic, and a dry, bitter finish.

A truly great Pilsner is a difficult beer to perfect, as its light crisp flavor profile leaves little room for error. Modern brewing techniques (such as open-top fermentation) and old-world traditions create the distinct qualities in STS Pils.

Bottled on 1/15/21; consumed on 3/10/21

Pours a crystal-clear, golden straw body capped with multiple fingers of fluffy, rocky, eggshell-white foam; great head retention yields a finger of sudsy cap and a massive, frothy cap climbing up the walls of the glass to meet chunky rings of soapy lacing.

Aroma offers a light biscuit and lime twang tone upfront, slowly developing a wavering honeysuckle against a quaint minerality in flux with more defined notes of water cracker over the middle of the bouquet; the distinction of lemon zest and grassy hops is expressed into the back end as toasted white bread brings a slight heft to the close.

Taste first shows fresh bread dough laying a foundation for burgeoning honeysuckle and floral spritz, with the mid-palate refining an herbal hop tone in the form of dry moss as a mild minerality courses prominently through the background; the back end returns to a maltier focus with toasted cracker and hearty white bread, though musty lime peel comes through fading with the finish.

Mouthfeel features a light body elevated with a fluffy, spritzy, full carbonation peaking to a more rounded, even creamy texture into the mid-palate before steadily drying on the back end; a lingering, mild bitterness trickles through and tingles the palate on the finish; a mild body with impressively complex textures.

Lively initial impressions betray what develops as a modest and maintained hop profile, a firm cohesion with a distinctly delicate malt complexity; at equilibrium, a rounded and coyly expressive Czech pils.

Surprise of the day at Wild Friendship Blend. Well balanced, incredible aroma and a nice biscuity malt backbone. A little hoppy for style. Great Americanized pilsner.

The groan beer when the list for wild friendship day was released turned out to be a nice surprise. A fresh, clean finishing pilsner with the hop presence you'd expect from Russian River. Would grab again for sure.

510 ml bottle. Pours bright clean straw yellow, thick foamy fluffy head that won't go away, some suds cling on as it eventually recedes. Light grain n grass aroma. Light grain sweetness combined with some nice zesty lemon and grassy bitterness. Very clean dry finish. Great mouthfeel for the style, medium soft n slippery. Excellent pilsner, one of the best I've had so far.

Poured a 510 ML into a tumbler. Nice clear, pale yellow appearance with half finger foamy head. You get lemon rind and yeast in the nose with just a hint of menthol as it warms in the glass. Tasty lemon and dough flavors with the slightest of slight sweetness at the tip of the tongue. Has a creamy and smooth texture with just the right amount of carb. It finishes with a lingering citrus and mild bitterness. Wish I had some more. One per customer, unfortunately...

Presentation: Draft, served in a Revival pint glass.

Appearance: The thick, one finger head settles down into a thin foam layer that stays until the end. It leaves a lot of thick lacing that covers the entire glass. It's a slightly hazy, pure gold color.

Smell: It's very faint. There's some earthy, grainy malt and a light hint of floral hops.

Taste: It starts with a clean, malty sweetness and finishes with a hint of bitter, earthy pine resin and citrus from the hops. Simple but very good.

Mouthfeel: It's medium bodied, crisp and refreshing with a dry finish and medium-high carbonation.

Overall: An excellent pils with a great hop-forward flavor and a heftier than average body while still being refreshing.

Pours a beautiful golden straw color with a pillowy soft white head that provides maximal lacing. The nose features grassy hop notes and bready malt notes primarily, with a hint of lemon as well.

The lemon is more prominent on the taste, but there’s a nice balance with the grass and bread flavors. Really well done.

The mouthfeel is dry and crisp, on point for the style. A really nice summer beer for a day in the sun - totally crushable.

6/5/17 - On tap at Monk's in Philly. Served in a classic pint glass. Looks and smells like any other pilsner. Little to no lacing. Taste, though. Spectacular. Smooth and malty. Some bitterness. I'll pass on every other pilsner until I can have this again. Get some.

17.25 oz bottle brought back from California by my best friend. Thanks Jesse!

Pale gold color with excellent clarity. Big, frothy white head that eventually settles to a thin layer. Nice looking Pils!

Heavy hops in the aroma. Bursting with lemon and peppery spice. A firm bready malt backbone upon tasting provides surprising balance given the bitterness. Dry finish with medium-light body.

Even for a Pils, the hops stood out in this one more than usual but I really enjoyed it. An excellent Pils to kick back with after a long day but not something I'd reach for every day.
