Purchased from Healthy Spirits in San Francisco, brought to Sydney and shared with @LaitueGonflable.

Pours a dusty, almost dirty brown colour, with a slight yellowish grey tone to as it enters the glass. Head persists with a little of that colour, turning out a slightly greyed-out beige colour. Not a bad look.

Nose is pleasantly Belgian, with a nice round funk and hints of sweet-savoury yeast. Under this is the very faint touch of roast, which gives it depth and interest. It's not as complex as some, but it's still quite pleasant.

Taste is also good, with the darker malts coming through to give some grainy biscuit characters, but no roasted bitterness or astringency. Finish is slightly tainted with a vague RR funk (in the best possible way, you understand), which cleans everything up, and also makes the feel much much lighter than its 9% would suggest.

Decent brew, with some interesting things going on. Not one of my absolute favourite from their range, but another solid beer, no doubt.

On tap at Capone's Black Friday event. This poured out as a pretty nice looking dark reddish brown color with a thin white head on top. The smell of the beer wasn't funky at all which I was really happy about. The taste of the beer had some really nice dark fruity flavors with some vanilla in the mix. The flavors that this brew has are rather impressive. The mouthfeel of the beer is pretty thin a but not watered down at all. Overall this brew is great I think. One of the best from Russian River I think.

From 375mL C&C bottle to Jackie O's tulip on 11/5/11
*From notes

-- Batch 010 --

A: Jesus, he pour yields a massive and dense 3.5 finger head and gobs of lacing. The rentention here is top notch. Unfiltered crimson-ruby-brown in color.

S: Dank cellar must, brown sugar, dates and organic raisins.

T: Rhubarb pie, warm molasses, dark malt, candied brown sugar and a generous helping of dried vine fruits. This has a lot going on, and really keeps me coming back.

M: A bit rough. The carbonation could use a bit more finesse, though the overall weight is decent.

O: I dug Russian River's Salavation. Not their best beer by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a well put together little beer that I look forward to having again. Don't let me stop you from getting into this one - thumbs up.
