Large corked bottle, poured into a tulip. Courtesy of jhenry04, I think. Batch #2.

Light brown, golden highlights, with a nice fluffy white head that holds reasonably well, and leaves some lacing.
Interesting aroma, shows some earthiness and funkiness, but also deliver a nice fruity, grassy hoppiness.
Medium bodied, very easy to drink, with an interesting mix of a biere de garde and an IPA - I did not see the brown ale mentioned on the bottle.
A little funky, a little earthy, a little spicy, a little hoppy. Nothing explosive, but very well blended.
A nice and interesting beer, highly drinkable and a good food match. I would have a few more home if I could.

Thanks to Fishdawg71 for this bottle. Batch 003.

a - pours a deep copper color with ruby highlights, huge ivory head with great retention and lacing, some larger sediment near the bottom of the bottle but fine suspended sediment throughout

s - really peppery and yeasty on the nose, some coriander, some banana, but the black pepper dominates, notes of pear and assorted spice as well

t - roasted malt and sweet dark fruit up front, midpalate is big on the black pepper and spice, some nice plum flavors, finish has a distinct yeastiness with light citrus, but the finish is a little hollow and falls off too fast, not much alcohol noticeable

m - medium-bodied, good deal of carbonation, very active in the mouth, well-balanced finish

d - pretty drinkable, relatively easy on the palate and complex enough to keep me interested, alcohol isn't too overwhelming either

Decent Biere de Garde overall. Certainly not my favorite RR offering, but a solid effort. Worth a try.

Had this beer on draft at Russian River Brewery back in February. This review is taken from my notes.

Beer was a clear copper or reddish orange color. Bar was pretty crowded and instead of pouring straight into the glass he angled it so there was no head. I am guessing he was in a hurry and didn't want to wait for the beer to settle.

Aroma is caramel, dried fruit and toasted grain. I really like the way this beer smells. Taste is similar and it has a nice creamy carbonation.

The thing that strikes me is that this beer has a really long finish. This is not the same as a really bitter beer where the bitterness sticks on your pallet. This beer has length and complexity in the same way a well made wine does. A really nice beer to sip and take your time with. The kicker is that this beer was $3.25 during happy hour. Can't beat that.

750ml batch 002 courtesy of KingG, thanks! My bottle was listed as 6.6% ABV on the label This is already a year or so old (according to the RR bottle log) so this should give me a good idea of whether or not to age my other bottle (batch 003). nice, ruby-red and brown mixture with a nice ring of bubbles and a thin white film. It looks good. the first whiff is a metallic, earthy smell that I also picked up from Redemption. Just like Redemption the mineral aroma fades as it warms and leaves behind a very fruity juiciness. It almost like cutting open a lemon or watermelon but not exactly. The funny thing is that while it is not a strong aroma it begs you to take one whiff after another, very cool. The flavor is bready, malty, spicy, some hops I think and maybe citrus. The thing I like about this beer is that the aroma and flavor are very good yet very subtle. It really begs you to think about what you are drinking. There is also an odd flavor that makes me think of authentic Belgians as opposed to craft Belgian-style beers. Maybe it is RR's yeast because Redemption gave me the same feeling. In any case, definitely let this warm up and you will be rewarded.

Batch 003

Many, many thanks to Todd1 for sending me this one...many moons ago.

Perdition pours a dark copper color. It's a little hazy. Backlighting reveals very attractive crimson highlights. A tan head caps it. It rises to about a finger and a half in depth before falling to a surface covering. The Sam Adams motor in the bottom of this glass maintained it there for a while. Lacing was light.

The nose is interesting. It's initially spicy. I'm getting cinnamon and pepper, though there are surely other varieties present. There's a little malty sweetness noted. Perhaps some toasted malt, as well. It's definitely yeasty. Smells like Belgian yeast to me. Surprise, surprise. That smells delicious. I'm getting a little fruit, but not much. Apple and pear are noted. Alcohol is buried. Overall, good stuff.

The flavor is quite good, but doesn't blow me away. Perhaps this bottle aged a bit too long. Perhaps I'm just not that into Biere de Gardes. Biere de Sonoma. Whatever. It is somewhat spicy up front. It tastes like a mix of cinnamon, pepper, in addition to several other spices I can't identify. Belgian yeast has a strong presence and ups the flavor a notch. It is a little malty and slightly sweet. It tastes like a mix of caramel and toasted malts. There's some residual earthy notes. Alcohol isn't noticeable in the least. It finishes spicy and yeasty. Good, not quite great.

Perdition has a light-medium body that feels more medium with warming. Carbonation feels light and restrained. It's definitely smooth and easy drinking. Drinkability is good. It's rather tasty, and I'm enjoying it. But, I'm not quite loving it. I'm splitting this 750, but could've tackled it alone. One to myself would've been plenty.

Russian River Brewing has an interesting creation in Perdition. I'm not madly in love with Biere de Gardes, and I'm still not. This one's okay. Frankly, it's probably my least favorite Russian River beer (that I've tried). It's good, but it's not something I'm head over heels about. There's nothing about it that's very exciting. Maybe I sat on the bottle too long. Good beer nonetheless. Definitely recommended if you have the opportunity.

Pours a beautiful brown with a wispy white head that leaves a nice lacing.

Smell is of cloves, bananas, cereal grain, malt, and some dried fruit at the end.

Some roasted sour and bitter flavors up front. Some stewed fruit and a slight sweetness at the end.

Rich and creamy mouthfeel with the slightest bit of astringency on the finish.

Very smooth, and very easy to drink.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a tulip glass.

A - Dark golden brown color with about one finger of golden/white foam.

S - A malty smell. With a citrusy/grapefruit nose.

T - Taste great. Pleasesant on the mouthfell with the right balance of hops and malts.

Drinkability - another home run from Russian River. Their big bottle series has yet to let me down.
