Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.25%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Pliny the Younger, the man, was Pliny the Elder’s nephew and adopted son. They lived nearly 2,000 years ago! Pliny the Elder is our Double IPA, so we felt it was fitting to name our Triple IPA after his son. It is almost a true Triple IPA with triple the amount of hops as a regular I.P.A. That said, it is extremely difficult, time and space consuming, and very expensive to make. And that is why we don’t make it more often! This beer is very full-bodied with tons of hop character in the nose and throughout. It is also deceptively well-balanced and smooth.

Amazing beer, elder is better. Smooth all the way. Notes of pine and flowers (sorry not sure what kind). Taste is great along the way, needs to be served cold because the hops tend to get a little dull with warmth

Tried it on tap at Haven Gastropub in Orange, CA. Crystal clear gold with a slight head. Good carbonation. Taste was very hop forward with notes of citrus and pine, followed with a light malty sweetness, and ending in a boozey bite. The alcohol content definitely shines through. Overall a very good triple IPA, but I feel that the alcohol holds it back. What makes Pliny the Elder so good is the balance of flavors, which is lost in the Younger. Worth a try for sure, but if you can get either the Elder or Blind Pig regularly, you are not missing much if you don't.

Was at this years event (2018) .
For a triple IPA i thought it was the best tripe IPA that i have had .At 10% ABV the alcohol was hidden so well.
I spoke with many who have had years of Younger and they said that this years was top notch with a great selection of hops for 2018.
Great beer and good times.

A fluffy persistent off-white head rests upon a shimmering light gold body.

The aroma is super dank and crackery, while very much reminding me of Hop Juju, with plenty of accents of orange and lemon. There is a hint of veg, but it's really sticky icky compared to Elder.

Taste is Triple Sec with a good bite of pine, orange liqueur and spikes of sticky cannabis and allium. The medium-light body has a semi dry tingle and no indication of its high ABV.

By comparison, Elder is more biscuity and crackery. I never thought I would say that, but then the Younger imposed its presence during this side by side. That said, I actually enjoy Elder more overall, as well as Hop Juju, which I find shockingly comparable. I'm glad to finally cross this off the list, but it's reputation is far over-inflated in today's IPA-rich world.

On tap at City Tap House- Logan Square in Philadelphia, PA.

This one pours a nearly 100% clear golden yellow, with a small foamy white head, and lots of lacing.

This one smells like orange and grapefruit zest, slightly sweet malt, pine resin, floral hops, and vague citrus.

A lot of people expect this beer to knock their socks off and change their life. It doesn't seem like this beer actually does that. Nonetheless, it's very tasty. It finishes really surprisingly dry, with a clean and fresh bitterness on the finish that invokes pine, flowers, and grass. There's a hint of fruity grapefruit and orange flavor, but nobody would really classify this as "juicy." There's definitely some supporting malt character- it needs it to back down the booziness. It's really honestly amazing how well this Triple IPA hides the booziness- you can barely tell it's there. I would have guess this was about an 8% DIPA.

This is medium bodied, crisp and really surprisingly clean, with a high level of drinkability and a normal level of carbonation.

I've had better Triple IPAs. I've had better West Coast IPAs. I've had better West Coast Triple IPAs. However, this is still a really well done beer, and it achieves balance in a style where balance is essentially impossible.
