Notes: Mind Circus IPA has a mild bitterness and a thick, luscious mouthfeel. This style of IPA is what is being called in the beer world a “Hazy IPA” Dominantly herbaceous and grassy, with moderate tropical notes as well as some bright citrus. This unique hazy IPA gains its flavor of grapes and grass from the Nelson hops, and its tropical notes of pineapple and mango from the Strata hops. It is unfiltered leaving a “haze” and some yeast for more texture. Oats were also used to add to the softer mouthfeel and hazy appearance.

I just expect more from RR. Which I guess is a blessing and a curse for certain breweries. Very solid overall, just not a ton going on. Could easily find a better local brew in a 4pk

This in my view, is easily the best after Pliny the Younger. Ease of Drinkability is out of the charts!!!
*Looks: hazy, light-pale beige brown, good head retention 1-1.5 finger head
*Aroma: Mellow hops, mild lemon, mild pine, mild sweet floral/mild pineapple
*Taste: Very easy to drink, light refreshing, floral lemony taste, Mind Circus is a superb IPA, awesome balance unlike Pliny the Elder which is overrated.
*Final Verdic*: A+ , what a beautiful creation by Russian River, second only to Pliny The Younger (easily beats Pliny The Elder)

A: Cloudy, peach-colored with a small sudsy head that dissipates quickly.

S: Fruity, bright.

T: Strong grapefruit up front, medium mouthfeel with a smooth, soft finish. No hop "bite" and very smooth from start to finish.

M: Medium mouthfeel, pillowy soft with absolutely no alcohol burn.

O: This is an excellent offering from Russian River. Full of flavor, smooth and extremely easy to drink without being too sweet. Pillowy soft feel with tons of flavor. I will definitely be picking this one up again!

Pale, golden tangerine colored body; nice head, fairly dense and soapy. Standard hazy IPA citrus pith with a touch of cereal grains; a mild bit of grapefruit. The taste exudes toasted cracker, wheat and oats with a nice touch of grapefruit and lemon; moderate hop bitterness presence; mildly pepper-like. Medium-heavy body; coarse and prickly on the palate; citric juiciness with a bit of acidic and alcohol dryness.

This beer is certainly tasty but with a few soft spots. The look appears fine although the head is rather weak and not as creamy or dense as I've noticed other hazies. And the smell, while okay, is rather muted. The flavor and mouthfeel are the saving graces of the beer.

Bottled 09/28/20

Appearance - Pours hazy and straw yellow with a white, frothy, two-finger width head. Fair retention ,resulting in a thin, broken layer of suds. Fair retention, with thin webbing, broken lines and small spotting.

Smell - Soft, but prominent fruity aroma.

Taste - Follows the nose. Very strong with "white fruit" and tropical notes. White grapefruit, white grape, papaya and lesser passionfruit. Touch of mineral character. Soft, but flavorful, then a hint of grass in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Smooth, soft and almost silky mouthfeel before a slightly dry finish.

Overall - Very much a classic NE-style IPA. Clean, soft and tropical. I dig it.

Cloudy yellow colored beer with a medium sized snow white head. Suppose that is what it is supposed to look like.

Smells hoppy and tropical. Smells of passion fruit and mint. Hints of apple, melon and banana. Scent of willow tree.

Starts out sweet and fruity with a banana after taste. Lots of tropical fruit tastes, Pineapple, Passion Fruit and Papaya are the strongest. After taste is melon. Stays sweet through the entire glass and the flavor shifts with each taste.

Mouthfeel is thick.

Overall not bad. I can see why the NE IPA is a thing. But the West Coast IPA is still the king in California.

Poured from a bottle -murky and turbid dirty lemon yellow with frothy white head leaving frosty lacing. Nose is funky citrus with herbal grassy notes. Taste leans toward piney bitterness with a rather dry finish. Not my favorite from RR but a reasonable facsimile of a NEIPA.

500ml bottle, dated 09.28.2020, poured into a stemless wine glass.

The beer pours a bright golden straw color, amber hues, hazy and turbid with a nice two finger high head, white and foamy with nice retention and great lacing. The aroma is nice, very grassy, light spice, big raw green hop, light peach and white grape, pale dough and mineral water. The flavors are good, very grassy and green, raw, bitter, very dry with a nice green hop bite, tangy pineapple, white grape and soft stone fruits play well together and it's very floral as it opens up and warms with just a kiss of pale grain. The mouthfeel is good, coating medium body, a bit heavier and very dry at the finish.

Verdict: A very nice NEIPA from Russian River. I like how this skews towards the earthy and bitter side, very grassy and dry while still offering a nice contrast from the bright tropical fruits without becoming overly sweet.

It’s solid but not spectacular. Medium copper body. Citrus, grapeshot and a bit of pine, mild zest and caramel. Good balance, not too bitter. Could be a touch softer, but as a whole works solidly well.

Bought at Hazy's in Boulder. Bottled: 09/03/20, consumed: 10/10/20

A&S: Half fluff and fizz white head. Very pale and hazy (almost yellow) orange-colored beer. Semi-lively with carbonation. Aroma constants grapefruit, lemon rind, and grassy hops.

T&M: Huge flavor compared to the aroma initially, however, this dies off a bit as the beer warms. Flavor has oranges, Easy to drink for 7%. White peppy spice in the finish. Very smooth, medium mouthfeel

Overall: I am always curious how it will turn on when a west coast brewery trys their hand at the east coast IPA, but I think this beer is fantastic! One of my favorites of this style.

Bottle poured into a Russian River Brewing Co pub glass

A: Pours hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces beautifully.

S: Classic Nelson mixed with extra tropical fruit, some citrus, a little pine, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Bright, fruity, white grape, gooseberry, passion fruit, apricot, pineapple, mango, and strawberry, citrus, lemon, tangerine, and grapefruit, a touch of pine, a bit grassy, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, somewhat soft on the palate.

O: You knew if you gave RR Nelson hops to play with the results were gonna be good. In this case,

Papaya creamsicle aroma. Kind of fantastic really. Like some exotic tropical dessert.
Taste falls a little flat though, kind of a bitter citrus thing without a ton else going on.
Mouthfeel is a little slick too. Enjoyable enough but not an IPA I would seek out.

Reviewed from a 7 day old bottle that had been stored in the fridge from day 1.
This is THE best IPA from Russian River, and one of the best ones I've had the pleasure of drinking.
Near perfect visuals of bright yellow. Aromas of all fruits tropical, and the combination of taste with that perfect mouthfeel that only the folks at Russian River can conjure up. This one's a winner all around.

I generally prefer regular IPA's but I do enjoy a good hazy IPA occasionally. When it comes to Russian River, I always expect excellence and this is exactly what this beer is. Very nice aroma and mouthfeel. This beer is not over the top juicy like some hazy IPA's can be. Very balanced beer - I will be drinking many more of these.

well, it's hazy.... popped that cap and WOW! what an aroma!!! totally not expected UNTIL i remembered this IS Russian River. man, they are awesome.... hazy, indeed. with oat, i understand. i hope there is no lactose.... so.... unfiltered? like a reduced Pliny, but with 'hazy' ? ? ? ? some grapefruit. i have never liked the Nelson hops and, after reviewing more intensely, i can taste them. but theyre not offensive as i've felt from them before and this is EASILY the BEST (if not only) Nelson-hop brew i have had. the guy is a genius! and his wife is gorgeous and beautiful and, apparently, intelligent so what a strong team and great creator of some of the best brews i have tasted.... i really didnt know what to think about this before i tasted it, and i had always wondered what RR was gonna do with the surging NE IPAs coming out.... he held tight to his roots and still succeeded! and nothing is still lying at the bottom of the bottle....! nice!

16 oz. can. Hazy pale orange, almost yellow. Also not all that hazy. Smells of lemongrass, some pine, and white grape. Tastes of lemongrass, citrus, some tropical fruit, and a little acidic fruit too. Grainy and grassy. Some citrus pith bitterness. Medium body. Quite sharp, but otherwise a tasty IPA. Not an approach I expected from Russian River.

Type: 17.3-oz. bottle

Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
Price: $6.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: May 29, 2020
Consumed: May 31, 2020
Misc.: Bottled on May 19, 2020; Split with my wife

Spent way too much money on a bunch of beer from North Park Beer Company, Windmill Farms and Bine & Vine. Woof. Was surprised that I hadn’t had this yet, but not sure I’d seen it anywhere before. Online description read, “Mind Circus IPA has a mild bitterness and a thick, luscious mouthfeel. This style of IPA is what is being called in the beer world a “Hazy IPA” Dominantly herbaceous and grassy, with moderate tropical notes as well as some bright citrus. It is unfiltered leaving a “haze” and some yeast for more texture. Oats were also used to add to the softer mouthfeel and hazy appearance.” Damn. Nelson, Strata and Russian River. Should be great.

Poured a golden semi-hazy color with three fingers of frothy white head. Could see some bubble streams trickling up from the bottom of the glass. World-class foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled a nice balance of Strata and Nelson. In order got Strata, Nelson, pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, citrus rind, dank resin, mango, orange juice, pine, herbal and wet grass. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste followed the nose nicely. In order got Strata, Nelson, pineapple, tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, citrus rind, citrus pulp, dank resin, pine, herbal and wet grass. (Taste - 4.25)

Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.50)

I can’t believe how much I liked this. May have underrated it slightly on the smell and taste, but world-class. Almost like a mixture of West Coast and East Coast. (Overall - 4.50)

Overall solid hazy from RRBC. Famous for their double and triples this one is relatively new to their line of hazies. This one is a good every day drinker. Pours clean and drinks clean with a nice fruity bite. They definitely know how to brew. They got it right with this one.

Right out of the can, it looks more west coast than east coast. Slightly opaque as opposed to completely cloudy. Citrus and grassy notes on the nose. Taste follows nose. A little thin on the mouthfeel. NEIPA's tend to be much thicker. Overall not a bad beer at all, but I wouldn't consider it an NEIPA.

Can fresh from brewery.
Moderately cloudy. Translucent. Not typical hazy appearance.
Really different. Herbal grassy smell. Similar to Happy Hops.
Some fruity grape juice. Thin bodied for being a hazy and adding oats specifically to add a fuller mouthfeel.
Not bad but wouldn’t seek out again.

On tap at Native Son Alehouse in Santa Ana, CA.

Right off the bat, first thought is that it’s not world class. No sir. This is not Usain Bolt running for the gold. Think more like some dude from Ghana that finished in 4th. It’s a great effort, but no medal should be given. Maybe a ribbon or a golden star. Yeah, put a golden star on it and I’m good.

Peace!

Sweet, orange citrus, white wine grape, slightly dank, hoppy nose on this one! Taste follows with a subtly sweet/crisp, slightly dank, orange citrus finish. I had this on tap and now out of the can and it is much better out of the can IMO. This has good depth and feel...it's not as creamy/murky as some hazies go, but this feels like a Russian River style hazy...High quality, clean and well-balanced. This is really good!
