This duo of beers, Robert and Jannemie, is an homage to our dear friend Floris’s parents who have hosted us many times at their home in Antwerp, Belgium! Robert is a Saison brewed using both American and European malts and hops and a distinctive strain of farmhouse yeast. Primary fermentation took place in one of our unique open-top fermenters which are perfectly designed for brewing yeast forward styles like Saison. This beer has characteristics of white pepper and fruit with a lingering dry finish. Robert is refermented in the bottle creating a fine carbonation.

Hazy & pale yellow with a thin white head, deceased yeasties swim aimlessly around the bottom of the glass. Lovely aroma: very fruity, pear & pepper. Salty, sour with mild bitterness. I’m disappointed that the fruitiness hasn’t made the transition to flavors but there is some straw, coriander, pepper, not much more recognized. Thin& very dry. Low carbonation & little effect of alcohol with the mouth. Overall: not the best saison but with trying.

Pours murky, pale gold in color with one quarter inch head. Taste is big straw, coriander, turmeric. Lightbodied, moderate low carbonation, funky. Good not great saison. Clean and worth a try.

Pours a paddle yellow small bar pour white head. Aroma is light barnyard funky, lemon grass brightness, some earthy yeast in the nose. Tastes follows the nose crisp refreshing lemon notes then funk farmyard notes, yeast earthy notes in the finish. Mouthfeel is light crisp. Overall easy drinking tasty brew.

Bright and clear gold pour with a moderately thick foamy top. There are wisps of cloudiness in the pour, no doubt vestiges of in bottle fermentation. Biscuit malt stands side-by-side with citrus in the flavor profile. There is also a spicy peppery bite as well. But overall, very smooth and a certain thirst-killer.

Pours and initially clear, golden hue; yeast sediment from top off pours yields a slightly cloudy appearance; dense, gentle rising carbonation; immense head, white and rocky; sticky web of foam inside the glass. A beautifully subdued aroma; light, bready malt infused with spicy and aromatic notes of citrus, white pepper and star anise. Muted flavors at first that evolve to a more herbal and phenolic character; mild white grapefruit flavor with a peppery edge. Medium body with a light roughness on the palate; semi-dry.
The initial scent to the nose was very intriguing and suggested some great flavors, but the taste was a bit muted and the mouthfeel a little weak. Still, a decent no-frills saison.

Golden hazy with a half finger of half white head.
Smells of coriander and banana.
The taste follows the nose. Medium body with little carbonation.
I got this in Sacramento and am drinking it in Redding, Feb 20, 2023.

Robert Saison pours a bright pale with a small, long-lasting, lacing head. The aroma is filled with pepper and a tart finish. The flavor is filled with peeper, sweet, dry fruit, a hint of tart, and bright, earthy notes to finish. Good body and feel. Overall, its a very "fancy" beer. A lot of pepper, bright and nippy.

Poured from a 12oz bottle yielding a two finger head that held up well all the way to the end lacing the glass. High carbonation. Hazy straw color, lemon and pepper up front. Very dry finish with no after taste. Not as spicy as some saisons. Extremely easy to drink. I'll have another.

Thanks to Jordan for bringing me some of these saisons out. Consumed early Summer 2022.
Cracked and pours a nice vibrant yellow golden color. Its cloudy, but still bright. Virgin white head like in the old days, 1/2" deep w my little .22 and my triple fat goose. Its a good looking beer. The aroma was actually pretty sparse, seemed to lead with grain, hay, light woodiness. I typically find the fruity notion in non brett saisons to be a little overplayed. Heck, even in some of the bretted ones too. File under: here.
The taste was enjoyable and a firm nod to traditional saisons. I didn't think the carbonation was problematic for the mouth feel, worked just fine. Notes of spiciness or fruitiness just didn't pan out. In terms of spice rack, I'm glad it didn't pan out. Its the type of saison that people don't seek out too often. Good drying finish after a walk through the fields essentially. This is warm weather stuff.
These prior reviews are wild: more like a lambic (hard fail) . . .better champagne beers (hard fail). . .

Bottled 11/18/2021 - enjoyed 12/21/2022 - poured from a caged-and-corked 375mL bottle into my Troubadour tulip.
Cloudy peach-yellow liquid with a rapidly receding papya-whip cap. The fine collar leaves vague lacing and no legs.
Lemon cake, toasted sugar/marzipan, and faint orange peel in the nose. Very light Brett. presence.
Acidic palate entry, bright malt with hints of lemon, wheat, and unripe pear. Not quite husky, mineral-kissed finish suggesting river stones. Mild even bitterness throughout.
A bit fizzy, medium-light bodied, more like a lambic than a saison.
Decent example of the style, but lacking some character and the body/carbonation is somewhat problematic. Definitely preferred Jannemie for this duo release.

Not sure what was up with my bottle. Opened 12/2022, dated 04/2022, pours a minimal head even after a vigorous pour that quickly recedes. The nose is nice -- brett, barnyard funk, lemon, hay. The taste reveals what the pour suggested though -- this is quite undercarbed, and I'm not sure why since it was corked and caged and is bottle-conditioned. The cork came out without much of a pop so maybe the seal was somehow compromised. Either way the undercarbonation unfortunately impacts not only the taste but also the mouthfeel which comes off as light and watery. I'll chalk this one up as a bad bottle.
