This is the best sour I have ever had. Its sour flavor is so smooth you can gulp it down with ease if you wanted to. With nice flavors of red wine that round out the entire flavor. If you like sours you need to try this beer.

Bottled 11/6/14; drank 6/24/15 @ California Split.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Opaque brown/purple rust appearance with champagne bubbles throughout.

Almost no khaki head; no lace.

Rich cherry & red wine notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Rich cherry & red wine flavors; balanced & quite tasty. Not too sweet, not too tart; extremely enjoyable.

375 mL, bottled on 7/18/2016.

Pours with a ruby red color and translucent. There's a small off-white head that quickly fizzles out into nothing. No lacing on the glass.

Wow, the aroma is powerful and I could smell it as soon as I started to pour the beer. Massive red wine notes with cherry and vinegar. I don't think I have ever had a beer that resembles red wine in the aroma as much as this one. Fantastic! So far, this reminds me a lot of a Flanders Red or Oud Bruin.

Red wine coming through again in the flavor but that's when the heavy sourness hits you. More of that cherry too, and the vinegar really cuts through.

The biggest drawback of this beer for me is in the feel. The carbonation is fizzy and it feels a little thin. Luckily, the aromas and flavors are so strong that they mask the thin aspect of the beer really well. No trace of the 10% ABV at all.

Thanks to Jesse for bringing this bottle from California!

Description: Clear with no head and deep, ruby color that reminds me of bourbon or even cola. Smell is rich and complex with a big hit of oak and cabernet followed by some dark fruit: just as promised. The taste unfortunately does not live up to the aroma and is instead dominated by red wine with little to no dark fruit. As a result, it's somewhat dominated by sour flavors. Carbonation is medium to high, which is more than expected from the appearance. Feel is a little on the thin side.

Suggested food pairing: Sharp cheese/cheddar

If you like this beer then should also try: Red wine...I really don't have a beer to compare this to.

Overall: 4.25 (This beer is good and I would likely drink it again) This one was not what I expected. It's definitely a good and somewhat unique beer but my gripe with the sourness: overwhelmingly sour with no dark fruits or anything else to mellow it out left it feeling imbalanced. This bottle was pretty fresh and may have benefited from some aging. Worth trying if you get the chance but I'd suggest letting it rest a while.

First had 10/25/14 at Iron Abbey. The best sour I've ever had, period. Great dark ale base, but the barrel aging with chocolate, and currants really adds depth. Touches of tobacco and cabernet seal it. Beat out the Duchesse for my favorite sour.

Caged and corked bottle poured into a snifter

Fizzy one finger off white foam cap settles to a thin layer of bubbles atop a ruby brown liquid

Aroma of Cabernet, fruit vinegar, cherries, oak

Taste of red wine, cherries, oak. Flavor improves as it warms to room temperature

Tart on the top of the tongue, low sudsing, whiff of alcohol

Very good sour

Exceptional quality sour. I typically am pretty love/hate with Russian River. I am in love with this beer.
L: Nice hazy dark ruby brown, minimal head that fades quickly
S: Smells of red wine, oak and of course you get a funky and fruity vinegar hint to it
T: Cherries, plums, oak, grapes and a hefty portion of sour. Not really sure what a current tastes like so, I can't judge that part of the flavor.
F: Very smooth, full bodied, yet light. Perfectly balanced.
This beer is very close to perfect. I've had this and supplication come off medicinal tasting in the past. But for the most part this one never fails to impress.

Dark but clear garnet, loud and fizzy at first but settling to slightly sparkling wine.

Smell is peppery oak, hint of dark red wine, and grape gummies with a slight acetic twang, but overall very enticing.

Dry and tanniny, spicy and slightly acetic, the Cab Sauv is very apparent. I get that peppery oak again, with red grape, red wine, black cherry, and plum. There's a slight burn in the sourness, but it's welcome. This is very well made, and just so deep and complex.
