Bottled 2016. Poured a hazy copper/rusty brown color with a fleeting tan head that left no trace. Nose was big wood, oak, red wine, caramel, candied apples, plum, and hay. The taste was along the same lines with tart cherries, grapes, oak, currants, plums and bread. The alcohol was hidden and there was a slight warming on the finish. Fantastic.

Almost 2 years of age on this one. I was getting a sweet and wine-y smell on the nose. Taste was sour, somewhat tart, and yet still crisp. Not my typical hoppy liking, but this one was special.

from the bottle - dark barrel aged beer using 100% cabarnet sauvignon barrels...refermented in the bottle to create its carbonation.

as good as a sour beer gets!

Pours a brown with ruby red hints and a thin tan head. The nose is funky and fruity with a good oak and wine presence. The taste starts out sweet with currants, a hint of cherries. This is followed up by oak, red wine, funk and good sourness. There's a hint of acetic acid, but as it warms this moves to the background. Overall, it's a very good sour with great fruitiness, barrel and wine presence.

2015, poured a couple hours after Supplication. Very similar look, in that it pours what I would describe as a muddy brown. Good amount of funk on the nose, but there was also a wood character coming through. Well balanced taste profile, with a slight tartness with a hint of sweet. Once again, the barrel itself lets you know that it is there. Giving the feel a boost because this is definitely a shining example of the "I cannot believe this is 10%". No alcohol presence whatsoever. 2nd time actually having this beer, and it was just as good as the first time.

2015 vintage:

Darker than supplication and less of a head

Smells of cherries, currants, vanilla and brown sugar (hint of horse blanket)

More sour than supplication, in all honesty in comparison a let down

Worth trying but I highly favor supplication :)

One of the best reasons for visiting the west coast, aside from the spectacularly beautiful outdoors, is all the great beer, especially Russian River. I finally had a chance to buy a Consecration, and while $20 is pretty steep (at a good beer store in San Diego), it was absolutely worth it. What a fantastic wild ale!
