"Twenty-two years. Wow, time flies. We remember whe the whole world seemed like a giant bag of barley just waiting to be mashed, we're older and wiser now, of course, but no less passionate about crafting truly great beers, and what better way to celebrate our 22nd year on earth than with a specialty-crafted, extra hoppy double IPA. We even put it in 22-oz bottles because, you know, why be subtle?" Brewed in the style of an American Double IPA, available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a frothy foam head of a buttery cream tone over a moderately hazy copper-amber body with light carbonation. Retention is very good and lacing is light and patchy. 4

(Smell) An aromatically hoppy nose of lemon, herbal tea, tropical fruits, pithy citrus, moderate resinous pine. Malt characters of pale and light syrup and caramel grains. A solid and inviting nose, although a bit heavier on the lemon and herbal aspects and lighter on the tropical fruit and citrus front, fairly well balanced in hop aroma diversity. Potency is moderate. 4

(Taste) Caramel grain syrups with a solid, fairly clean and easy-drinking malt base, met with a moderate hop bitterness and an assortment of mild hop flavors, herbal, lemony, peppery and mildly piney. Finishes hoppy bitter and softly grainy. Somewhat less of a hop flavor profile than in the aroma. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is silky, lightly residual, clean, moderately dry. Carbonation is light, generating a mild frothiness and a mildly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium/heavy overall. Balance is moderately hoppy bitter and grainy over sweet. Alcohol presence is moderate and there are no off characters. 3.75

(Overall) Red Brick's Anniversary Ales seem to get less and less exposure over the years, even as the styles become more appealing to larger audiences and they continue to improve the average quality of their products. Their release of an anniversary Double IPA isn't their first jab at the style, but this ale is quite enjoyable, if not outstanding. As Double IPAs continue to appeal to monstrous crowds, its far more difficult to craft a standout product in this category. This Double IPA doesn't take any big risks and sticks to a largely winning style formula, but the hop profile still falls a bit short of bursting with flavor, generating more bitterness than hop flavor. Still, this falls comfortably as a solid DIPA, slightly ahead of style expectations and in the upper half of good examples of the style. 4

A 22oz bomber picked up in October, 2015

L - Bronze with little clarity, 2 fingers of head and some nice lacing left on the glass all the way down. Exactly how you want ur DIPA to look

S - Grapefruit, citrus, mango, slight bitter aftertaste.

T - Huge hop kick to the senses. Citrus, piny, and slightly boozy

F - Well carbonated, oily slick, medium body

O - A fine 22nd birthday celebration brew. For the Hop Heads out there, this is worth checking out

Sales rep gave me a sample of this today. Everyone I have met from Red Brick is super kind. 22oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Deep copper with orange tint. Off white head that slowly recedes leaving nice lacing. Smell is dank, onion, garlic, grass, pineapple. Taste is very much similar- onion, pine, and slight mango. Very light and creamy for a double. Pretty good beer. Cheers!

22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 8.99. Bottled 9/26/15. Served in a Red Brick snifter.

Pours a cloudy orange with a finger and a half cap of dense beige froth. That thick head recedes to a faint surface haze and a narrow ring, depositing a few flecks of lace.

Aroma is dank and sticky. Notes of garlic, pine, socks, cat urine and faint sweeter hints of bread. The description may not sound good but this smells great.

As in the nose, the flavors are predominantly dank. Onion/ garlic, resinous pine, bittersweet mango pit, grass, flower petals, a little bread and a healthy dollop of booze. Every sip is a hop assault and it all works pretty well.

Slick, sticky, full feel with moderate carbonation. Aftertaste is like dank hop bread.

Happy 22 years to Red Brick. Georgia's oldest brewery celebrates with a vicious, dank double IPA, proving that they can throw down some hops when they want to. Worth a try, particularly for anyone that enjoys the danker end of the hop spectrum.
