I am trying a can of this beer that was brought by my bestie to Grayton beach, FL whilst there for vacation. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had pine bitterness and heavy malt base. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation . Overall its a decent beer.

Pretty nice. The smell is the best part of it for sure and after that it’s pretty standard across the board, nothing special. I would probably get again.

Appearance - Pours cloudy orange color with thick white head that settles to a thick cap.

Aroma - Lots of lemon, malts, caramel, grains and citrus peel.

Taste - Malts, citrus peel, orange and grapefruit.

Feel - Medium bodied decent carbonation probably a little too dry and bitter.

Overall - about an average IPA no strong flavors sort of muddled still an ok IPA.

From the can, it pours an unsurprisingly hazy amber with a nice head that soon reduces to a thin layer. Lacing as you drink - lots of it. Some hops in the nose and some, pleasantly, in the mouth. Nice east coast IPA.

Hoplanta is a nice-looking IPA: a giant pebbly off-white head sits atop a very slightly hazy, effervescent golden body, leaving nice sticky bands and ladders of lacing. The nose is big: juicy pineapple with more subtle bright grapefruit and hints of sweet florals, topped by slight alcohol overtones. Up front, the palate is medium-bitter pine with hints of citrus, caramel and IPA soapiness; mid-palate the hop flavor opens up and shows the pineapple from the nose, and the malt comes into its own: the caramel hints expand to a definite caramel character that is joined by a modest bittersweet nuttiness and a very prominent bready malt foundation. Perceived bitterness decreases to light-for-style. The finish is a modest hit of nutty caramel, followed by the onset of a modest, slightly grassy pine bitterness that lasts for a good while. Retrogustative olfaction is grassy pineapple. Mouthfeel is commensurate with the light-medium body, and is slightly astringent; the texture is medium-peppery from the well-expressed carbonation, and is slightly creamy but also slightly watery on the back end. (12 oz can, 73 days after pkg)

Orange color with a bit of haze and off-white head. Aroma has mainly sweet citrus fruits and resiny hops. Taste follows with orange, grapefruit, a bit of caramel malt, really balanced. Finish is more bitter with piney hops and bitter grapefruit pith. Medium body and carbonation, really easy to drink. Overall it's a really classic IPA, well made and quite tasty.

Upon the first pour it was a slightly darker IPA and had a slight haze but looked very promising. The smell was hoppy, light, and that slight citrus smell. The first thing I noticed about the taste was the malt character. Suprislingly there was a lot of malt character up front but it was quickly followed by hop bitterness. Overall it was a great IPA.

A- Pours a murky burnt orange with two fingers of fluffy head that clings after each sip.

S - Citrus, hops, orange peel, piney.

T - Grapefruit, bread dough, malts. Opens hoppy enough, but then falls flat and finishes one note.

O - Meh - not bad, but doesn't stand out at all.

Pours a hazy light amber. I like the fact that it comes in a can but the taste here just don't work for me. It has a bitterness that is just not balanced by the malt. and while I do like a bitter IPA this one just doesn't work for me.

12-oz bottle into Belgian ale glass

A - 3 fingers off-white foam over a somewhat cloudy body of golden amber; high in visible carbonation; laces the glass nicely

S - citrus and floral, caramel sweetness; not very pronounced

T - notes of citrus followed by bread and caramel sweetness, pine, dry piney/lemony finish

M - slick full body, high carbonation

O - Hoplanta is a pretty good IPA all in all. Lacking in the aroma department, but otherwise quite pleasant. Lots of character from the malts, but still hoppy enough to be considered an IPA.

Delicious IPA via bottled ATL brew. Nice hippy taste. You know you've got a good IPA when people take a drink & say "ewwww!" I've enjoyed other IPA's which I've enjoyed better, but this is good! Amber coloring, enjoyed cold, in a glass of course. The feel is smooth, if you like IPA of course!

Pours a deep gold going toward orange. Head is 1+ finger and off white in color. Fair amount of sticky lacing left behind.

Aroma is rather than subdued. A bit of citrus, lemon, grapefruit, and orange. Just a bit of caramel malt.

Taste is like the aroma though a bit more intense. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit hops. Just a hint of pine. Caramel malt with some toffee and raw bread dough. Some honey-like sweetness.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Rather bitter aftertaste with something a touch metallic.

A decent IPA which could use a major aromatic boost. Also, the aftertaste is not particularly pleasant.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, and slight citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, earth, and subdued citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that is quite malty and fairly boring for the style.

Serving type: bottle.

You know, sometimes I don't mind a malty IPA. This certainly fits that bill. Of course more hops is always good. But this is a decent enough brew, in spite of the very heavy malt base.

Can date 3-25-15. Threshold Beer Glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy dark gold with lots of sediment and floaties. 1 finger just off-white head, turns to a modest cap; very good retention. Some visible carbonation, but hard to see through all the sediment. Excellent lacing.

Aroma: Very sweet and citrusy. Fruit punch. Would not be surprised if this is hopped with Mosaic.

Taste: Dry, resinous and bitter arrival. Piney. Gasoline and resin across mid-palate - where is the sweetness I smelled? Big bang of bitterness at the ending, and lingering medicinal/piney. The fruit was only on the nose, there is no fruitiness or sweetness anywhere on the palate. Amazing in the contrast between aroma and taste.

Mouthfeel: On the lighter side of midweight. Fairly light on the carbonation. A little astringent on the finish.

Overall: Definitely a bold IPA. If I lived in Atlanta, I'd probably drink it fairly regularly. But it's not available where I am, and there are better examples of the style to me. Bitterness was a bit harsh. A pretty good IPA.

Pours a cloudy orange.
Smells very sweet. Like biscuits and honey, like pineapple hops. Tastes much more bitter than it smells. Nothing earth-shattering, but it's full flavored, not watery, and it's hoppy. It's got less of a malty presence then it smells like it would. Tasty though, would have it again. I wonder what it's like on tap.

S: Sweet malts, floral hops

T: Floral hops hit the tounge right away, astringent bitterness on back of the mouth, I get a slight malty sweetness but not nearly as much as I suspected after the smell

M: Medium, good carbonation

O: A pretty decent IPA. Nothing overly exciting but I would have again given the chance.

this one is an attempt to be bold, real bold, and it is largely successful i think, but it falls into that over balanced ipa category so many do. the issue is trying to boost abv and color, but accidentally (on purpose) end up making it thick, filling, and weirdly sweet in the middle while losing the hop intensity the beer sought to begin with. its good, dont get me wrong, and looks real nice, all golden and puffy, clear but honey hued, and emitting aromas of simcoe oils and crystal 60, although i cant positively confirm either ingredient. the taste is much the same, but instead of being all hops in the finish, its more grainy than it needs to be, and adds weight unnecessarily i think. for me, one was enough, although i suppose i have become a bit of a snob over the years, especially in the american ipa category. this just doesnt measure up to even the low A level ones, but i think its probably one of the better ones around, and if you like a big malty chewy ipa, than this is the type for you. red brick has been underwhelming for me in my limited exposure to their brews so far...

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a brown/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of caramel malts, some hops. Taste is hoppier than the smell, some bitterness, malts are also present, easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid and enjoyable beer.

From a mixed sixpack made up at Orlando Whole Foods market. Bottled 9/25/14, so over 3 months old.

a: Slightly hazy amber topped by a half finger thick white head which shrank to thin patchy surface foam and fairly dense lacing.

s: Strong floral, nearly perfumy aroma.

t: Dank vegetal and pine resin with a significant bitter bite. Vegetal and floral finish.

m: Medium with good body and plenty of carbonation tingle.

o: A different-tasting brew, somewhat harsh but still drinkable, boosted
by the persistently pleasant flowery aroma. May have suffered from age.

Another IPA, another hop pun. Out of a 12 ounce bottle, on to the beer:

Hoplanta has a glow of orange with a reddish hue. A solid head is formed on the pour, leaving spots of lacing around the glass. The aroma brings sugar coated grapefruit to mind, also vague woody and caramel notes as well.

Vague citrus hits the palate first. Out comes a sweet and tangy tangerine. Bites of toffee add extra sweetness to this IPA. The vague citrus morphs into grapefruit, which adds a juicy aspect. Not too sweet. The beer brings a medium sized body and some chew, which I wasn't expecting in a standard IPA.

Hoplanta is hoppy enough and solid overall. It did well to clean up a spicy dinner.
