look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Cloudy, straw colored; medium head, dissipates quickly; effervescent

Aroma: Sweet malt with hints of a fruit (maybe apricot); light citrusy hops

Taste: Sweet malt with light hop profile; crisp and refreshing; noble hop aroma and flavor is muted, but it is noticeable and lends a good flavor profile to the beer; great session beer

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Poured into a 1/2 liter stein a very light pale golden with a rather thin soapy white head.Wet grain and a tinge of iron in the nose, very clean.Flavors pack a little more subtle complexity and flavor with light toastiness, iron, and light vanilla in the finish.I dont mind delicate but this is a little to delicate for me,it lacks enough mouthfeel and aroma to make it a good beer in my opinion.

Maxlrainer Schloss Gold
500 ml brown glass bottle, obviously reused; no freshness dating
$2.99 @ Cost Plus World Market, Arlington, VA

Appearance: clear golden body beneath a full head of creamy white froth. Very good head retention and lacing.

Aroma: grainy malt alongside grassy, floral, and herbal hops. Bright and welcoming.

Flavor: as the nose suggests but with the floral hops overriding, followed by a light bit of herbal, and even less grassiness. The bitterness is very firm, but not intrusive, suggesting a brewery from the south. It's balanced and pleasant, and in that alone fairly drinkable, but also fairly memorable for its floral character.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied and crisp; initially a bit effervescent but then quite smooth once warmed.

Overall: a charming, what I would consider "Munich Helles" lager bier. Worth trying.

Clear, bright yellow color with white head. Aroma has grains and a bit of bread and honey notes. Taste is really nice for a lager. Slightly sweet and grainy with bread crust and honey notes. No real hop presence. Body is quite heavy for the style and also smooth. Really nice beer overall if you like a slightly sweet lager.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass. Good till Jan 25th 2012, lets see what we got here.

Super pale gold body with big bubbles of fast rising carbonation for the body, almost a green like hue also. Head is very soapy looking and large bubbles but brings a good size off the pour. White head falls slowly but also leaves some retention and clumps. I like the look, no stick for lacing though it seems or hardly any.

Bouquet is fairly muted, but good. Slightly bready muted crispy sense and a hint of dryness. Nothing really unpleasant or off seems small but solid.

Taste is a little disappointing. But not entirely. No crisp or dryness that seems to hint from the smell, but a small white bread in the palate, but also a fairly big body for this style in thickness. This may have been the only time I would have enjoyed some wetness on my beer. Mild grain/malt thing but missing that wonderful baked bread action.

It is though a very passable and easy drinking beer, but not one I'll seek out again, but it will do in a pinch.

Best before the 25th of January, 2012 9:32.

Pours crystal clear and pale yellow with plenty of caarbonation bubbles at first, but they taper off quickly. An impresive 4 finger mounding pure white head that leaves some fairly decent lacing.

Toasted grain and honey in the aroma.

Taste of sweet toasted grain. More metallic than bitter.

Medium-thin mouthfeel. A bit of heartburn in the throat early on. Peppery feel early as well, but it shrinks to almost nothing by the end.

Except for the carbonation, this beer improves as you go. It seems overly metalalic at first, but in the end is an easy drinker with nicely sweet and toasty malts.

Had this on tap at my hotel in Munich.

A- Pours a straw gold with a decent snow-white head.

S- Little there, some of the Munich malt, but little hops.

T- Clean, citrusy, lots of the Munich malts, dry finish.

M- Not too gassy, but well carbonated, thinnish in the body.

D- We started and finished our days at the hotel bar, so we drank many of these, but not nearly as good as the other Munich helles beers available.

Presentation: 1 Pint 0.9 fluid ounce [500ml] standard tall looking brown glass bottle. Labeled as Maxlrainer Schloss Gold from the Schlossbrauerei Maxlrain GmbH & Co KG. The main label has a generic presentation, a large Germanic mansion above the word ‘Maxlrainer’ in gold, below which the words ‘Schloss Gold’ and ‘seit 1636 edle Biere’. A fancy looking matching V-Shaped neck label and a logo painted white crown cap completes the presentation. Listed as 5,3% and with a nicked Best Before Date of 07-04. Oops.

Appearance: Pale yellow body with a perfectly clear appearance. Massive Teutonic head forms on top of the brew and leaves some immense lacing. The head slowly settles and collapses to form a rocky crusty head. Average conditioning but enough strength to reinstate the fading head when swirled.

Nose: Fresh aromas despite the fact that the Best Before Date expired. Light aromas, crisp but delicate hop character and some toasted malts with a flowery dimension.

Taste: Exceptionally clean feel, fresh with a soft bitterness. Limited malt bill with a low level hoppy floral character. Balanced in a strange bland sort of way.

Mouthfeel: Suffers from a watery thin feel throughout. Limp.

Drinkability: The clean lines and thin mouthfeel mean that this one is easily imbibed in the beginning, yet the welcome soon expires. A low interest Helles that soon disappoints. One bottle is enough. Forgetful.

Overall: Nicely balanced Germanic Helles but way too thin.

Pale golden colour, medium head, decent retention, clear. Aroma was grass and malt. Tasted notes of grass, honey, grain. Had a slight bitterness, finish was wheaty and doughy. Well carbonated, crisp texture, smooth. Overall more of an in your face Export than subtle Helles, drinkable.

Golden yellow with greenish edges. White head, creamy on top, bubbly on sides.
At the smell the malt, with some herbal hints.
Nothing to remember, but it is drinkable.
In the taste the malt, too, with a fnish herbal hint. A little too carbonated.
Malty aftertaste, and a little of hop.
