This is how a Hefeweizen SHOULD taste. I used to drink the typical juggernauts (Paulaner, Augustiner, etc), but man, this beer blows them all away. I am so happy it is now available in Texas. And it is cheaper than the others. I just wish it came in a six-pack

Poured into a British pint glass. Amber color, very cloudy, with almost no head, despite the vigorous pour. Aroma is just what I look for in a south German wheat: lots of phenols! together with some sweet wheat malt. Taste is a little musty (best-before date is 4 months in future, so there should be no shelf problems), fairly phenolic, some bubblegum notes. Body: needs more carbonation! Decent hefe, but not near the best versions we can get in the US.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Slightly hazy golden yellow color with a fluffy white head and great curtain lacing. Classic hefe smell and taste, bananas and cloves. Smell better than taste, a bit sweet. Good feel for the style. This beer seems underrated.

Half-liter bottle poured perfectly at Rifugio Bolzano (Schlernhaus)! Maybe the atmosphere gives a halo effect, but this just nails the style.

'Tis the season for hefeweizens, so here's a random find at a local beer store. Prost!
A- Hazy orange gold with a good inch and a half or so of head that dissipates in a timely manner.
S- Sharp, tangy malt backed by a solid ripe banana smell and some chalky, earthy yeast. Yep, this is a hefe all right.
T- The ripe banana is definitely at the forefront but balanced by a pleasant lemony tartness. There's a grainy quality to the finish along with some earthy yeast that complements the other flavors nicely. Virtually no bitterness on the finish.
M- Very smooth and maybe a little thin in body. The carbonation is a bit low for the style, but it goes down nicely.
This is a pretty standard hefe. It's good and tasty, but nothing really jumps out about it. But, if you're looking for a flavorful spring or summer beer, you could do much worse.

From 500mL bottle to plastic cup on 4/24/12
A: Hazy pee yellow. Decent white head leads to a white collar and not a whole lot of lacing.
S: It's got an intense herbal quality to it. A bit of banana and such round it out.
T: Actually it's not half bad. Loads of freshly peeled banana and a touch of clove. Not too big or over the top. For a style I don't usually enjoy, it's pretty decent.
M: More bubbles then I'd like. A beer like this needs a smoother, creamier feel to it. This, on the other hand is simply overcarbed and rough around the egdes.
O: Not a half bad stab at a hefe. I don't know if I'll be returning to this, but in a pinch, yeah I'd quaff a pint.

Someone recommended this to me, saying when it had it on tap, it was the best weizen he's ever had. This is from the bottle. Exp: 12/13/2011
A: Creamy and pretty dense apricot color fading to a golden yellow on the edges of the glass. Slightly dark. 1.5 finger head, very cloudy, no visible rising carbonation.
S: A thick body in the smell, very full and powerful hefe, Ever so slight peptobismol. A bit chalky.
T: Water dominates, and the flavor sits under that. Tinge of tartness, sour citrus, almost rotting lemon, sandalwood, celery.
M: A bit tart on the tongue. Mediumish to slightly heavy body.
O: Ok, nothing special. On the "savory" (as opposed to sweet) end of the hefe spectrum. Average in many ways.
