this is a style of beer for me that is either love it or hate it with very little middle ground. i think the balance of this one is superb, and it might have been my favorite from my recent visit to moylans. pale and hazy, a little orange streak to it an otherwise straw colored brew that holds its inch of airy white head even in a pint glass. it smells great, bright floral sweet belgian yeast, not over the top, not sharp, not too fruity, and definitely not over hopped. the hops smell a little tangy but are primarily citrus family it seems, a good mix of old and new world ingredients meet the nose in a happy union. in the taste, its a pretty straightforward brew, not a ton of weird wrinkles in this one. its yeast driven, with hints of white pepper and lemongrass from the unique belgian strain, but its well within the parameters established by the rest of the beer, which i feel like a lot of belgian pales miss. lots of hop flavor too, grapefruit comes to mind, not sharp or anything though, and really pretty mild on the bitterness. summery and flavorful, this falls on the easy drinking end of the style spectrum. a very tasty and refined beer here, well done overall. the first of the belgian types i have ever had from moylans too.

On tap at Moylan's Brewery in Novato, CA.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, earth, yeast, and floral aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, yeast, spice, earth, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable, but the hops used in this one clash a bit with the yeast.

Serving type: on tap.
