Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass. I’m pretty sure it’s at least 3 years old.

A: The beer is a deep black color, with a thin brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains rich chocolate, roasted malts, some dark fruit and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of dark chocolate and black coffee. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild yet surprisingly still noticeable given the age of the beer. There’s a little bit of smokiness in the background and a good balance as this beer seems to have aged quite nicely. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this beer has aged well and is well-worth drinking for a long time.

Fruit, chocolate and another smell im not used to.Mabey its the currants.

This is where this beer really shines.Chocolate, fruits and another taste I cant describe.

Smooth, silky, and a creamy moutful. The abv. has some nice kick to it,so watch out.

Tasty, very tasty.I like it,im glad I had the chance to try it.I would have liked to have more of it.I will search this out for sure again.

22oz bottle into 25oz snifter.

Pitch black with no light getting through. A two finger light brown head slowly settles to a thick bubbly cap, leaving behind a webbed wall of lacing behind.

The roasted malts have a smooth characteristic, providing a base for some light sweet chocolate, some roasty coffee, and a little bit of dark fruit.

The flavor is a little less complex than the aroma. Sharp and roasty malts, highlighted with a little dark fruit. The coffee and chocolate that usually appears isn't there. Alcohol comes out as it warms.

Somewhat of a smooth RIS, some also less complex in the flavor. Decent, middle of the road, not my favorite, but worth a try.

A - Dark brown, bording black in color. Head has nice retention and is a bit foamy. Good amount of lacing to boot.

S - Chocolate and coffee take the stage although not without a dark fruit sweetness. Plums, grapes and dark berries give it a sweet middle wich then leads to a bitter dark chocolate finish.

T - Very coffee foward. There are undertones of sweet bitter chocolate and a bit of creaminess.

M - Lighter bodied than anticipated. Carbonation is ok and the mouthfeel is smooth. Not bad.

O - Not a bad RIS overall. I really liked this one. 6 dollars a bomber is a bit much though. I doubt I would buy this again considering the other options I have for around the same price of less. Worth a try for sure though.

Pours black with barely any tan head. Nose is great. So silky smooth with the chocolate tones. Like powdered cocoa and I like it. Flavor is slightly roasted with purely dark chocolates mixed in. A bit molasses like as well. Feel is slick on liquid. Low carbonation. Pretty easy to drink. No massive complexities, but it's a nice enough one.

Pours pure black with a huge, brown head lasting a long time and leaving great lacing. smells like chocolate, coffee, roast grains, lots going on. taste is a touch sweet initially, finishing nice and bitter. creamy, thick and hides the alcohol well. solid.

A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with a thin tan head that died down, leaving some delicate patterns of lacing on the surface along with a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are aromas of roasted malts in the nose along with some hints of molasses and sweetness.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of burnt and roasted malts and some hints of sweetness. It has a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and smooth on the palate with a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is a good sipper but seems to be lighter bodied compared to others in this style.

Pours pitch ink black with a small less than 1 finger deep tan bubbly head.

Smells of charred malts, sweet malt, coffee, booze, chocolate, smokey. Yum.

Wow, flavorful. Chocolate, coffee, bready, HOPPY, roasted malts, toasted coffee beans. All meld very nicely.

Smooth, rich, silky, lingering hoppy finish.

No worries finishing a bottle. The 10% is nicely hidden.

An underrated impy stout, IMO. Not a thick & full as some of the other highly rated versions. But this one is quite delicious as is. Kudos.

A: the pour pushed out murky brown notes with burnt sienna fusing with deep reds. In the glass it looks as black as parts of the label. As my eyes wandered up to the next item on the agenda, the brown sugared cap is bursting and lasting. It is of dense and sticky proportions leaving sheets of chunky goodness

S: wall to wall dark roasted malts 'n' grains, bitter java whiffs, and large globs of dark chocolate. I also smell a melding of fruity citric notes in the mix. The nose hit the nail on the head, how I like my stouts at least. Smells and looks burly

T: probably the biggest standout on the tongue is the dark fudge brownie notes that have toffee and roasted malts within. Things are definitely rich and roasted and what's even better is that it never goes into the "cloyingly" sweet zone. In any event, I like sweet stouts. I also like stouts chock full with coffee and this one has minimal coffee presence. The java flavors are washed out by bitter chocolate notes and the delicate finish of citrusy hops. For the richness within, the hops make a nice "cut-thru" showing. Things seem to intertwine together nicely.
The alcohol is even in order with the casual sip. However, if I really focus on pulling the ABV out you can gather it lingering and as it warms the "warmness" increases

M: silky smooth with chewy at the tip of my tongue. The bodies dimensions are heavy and very quaffable. Body is a match for the tastes, say no more

D: my first of Moylan's and a very good starter in my favorite class of beer. It says that this is a "classic cigar" beer and I would whole heartedly agree. Give this a drink and you'll be pleased

Poured from the 22 oz bomber into a pint glass. The pour produced a perfect 1" head of dense, tan foam that lasted for quite a while and left medium lacing. The beer is ebony of ebonies and quite opaque. When I held this to a bright light source, only a hint (and I mean you have to look for it!) of ruby color showed though.

The nose was very subdued.... burnt, charred malt was all I could pick up....and very slightly!

Taste: Right on style for an RIS. Had all the requisite flavors: dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla. More bitter than sweet (but very little hops flavor.... the bitterness comes from the charred malt.

MF: Not as rich and robust as I like for the style. I want to be able to chew this beer.... too thin for that. Now I'm not saying that this is a THIN beer.... it's just thinner than my favorite RIS's.

Drinkability: This is a GOOD beer. I will have this again.... However, it's not among my favorite RIS's (Hoppin Frog B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, Stone RIS).

Pours thick and black with a nice 3/4" light brown head that dissipates a little fast and leaves only spotty lace. Roasted malt aroma with subtle chocolate and a little alcohol. Rich warm roasted malt IF with a roasted and burnt malt aftertaste that picks up some chocolate and coffee increasingly as the beer warms. Full bodied, viscous, and smooth. Overall, this is tasty and rich with a distinct chocolate and coffee flavor. This is a good big stout without being overblown.

Pours an inky black with over one finger of rocky, dark tan head that leaves a nice lacing - looks wonderful!

The aroma of molasses, anise combines with toasted malts and bready yeast.

The taste mirrors the aroma but also includes a hint of dark cocoa. While it is a bit strong on the outset, the flavors tend to balance as the brew warms.

On the tongue, a bit of alcohol warmth but not overpowering. A bit thinner than I'd prefer for an RIS, not as dense as others I've tried.

Overall, a very drinkable RIS and the 10% ABV is subtle so I doubt I'd drink more than one in a sitting but that is even better as it allows you to savor this nice brew.
