650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of piney American hops. The flavour is medium dry, again with notes of piney American hops, hints of grapefruit. Reasonably bitter finish. Refreshing.

This pale ale pours a deep orange color (making it darker than the average pale) with a very slight white head and a slightly above average amount of carbonation. The smell is citrusy with notes of lemon, grapefruit, and orange. The body is a little heavier than the average pale ale, but still on the light end of medium. There’s some good biscuity malt character and the finish brings out some bold notes of orange and lemon. There’s a touch of hop bitternes that gives it a little bit of piney flavor, but I think the malts take a more central role here. There is a somewhat sweet finish, but it’s not cloying and it manages to be actually a pretty crisp and a little dry. Some people who like their pale ales really pale and more pilsner-like may not be into this, but I personally prefer a little bit more body and to me it’s still pretty light and refreshing. This is a very good choice in what, in my opinion, is a pretty boring style of beer on the whole.

On nitro tap at Moylan's Brewery in Novato, CA.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, tea, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, tea, and slight citrus fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable, but I think the nitro presentation is diminishing the aromas and flavors on this one.

Serving type: on nitro tap.

05/29/13 At Rattle N Hum, NYC. On tap. Seeing an IBU rating of 20-40 caught me off guard with the fullness of the hops. The smell of toffee/caramelization manages to set the tone & render this a very enjoyable beer.
