Picked this up a few weeks back at Top Hops in New York, having never heard of Kelso or any of their beers before. I saw a dark can and "industrial" written on it and thought that this would be pretty rough around the edges and sure enough, it was. This certainly was a Double/Imperial IPA that nearly bordered on the edge of Barleywine and Wild Ale as well. There's a lot going on here and this was about as raw and unrefined a beer that I've had in quite some time!

The pour to this was good, as the beer had a light copper hue and moderate head that quickly subsided. Lots of malt, skunk, and tropical fruit in the nose and then I took my first sip.

Wham!

Boy, was it strong. Booze. Barley. Solvent. Citrus rind. It's all here and all uninhibited. Nothing held back and even the dank, hoppy bitterness and maple sweetness came through in the aftertaste. Lots of warming associated with them and a subtler oily resin that coated my mouth once the beer went down. A bit of crystalline sweetness stuck around but the funk was there from start to finish. Quite untamed, this beer didn't hold back and hit me quite hard before I polished it off.

One of these was enough for a session, although I could have had another in sitting. Based on the reviews here, this was quite polarizing and even though I didn't hate it, I could see why so many people didn't like this. Going to a warehouse party in Bushwick that's in a beat-up 'hood? Bring this, it'll fit in perfectly with the surrounds. A fitting brew for a Borough still rough around the proverbial edges.

Poured from can to into pint glas
L- golden, slightly cloudy reasonable head, fades in about 2-3 minutes
S-malty, candy like, maple
T- well balanced, quick hop hit smothered in malt
Feel- effervescence spread it well on tongue
Overall- I would buy this again. Never heard of them until this beer. Read their bio online, good luck to them.

Cloudy, near opaque dark gourd orange color. Tropical fruit hops and thick syrupy malt aroma. Hop flavors are delivered on the palette by a tsunami of heat, thick malt, and bitterness. Not how I want my hoppy goodness delivered. And not near enough hop flavor to warrant that much booze. Big body like beery orange sorbet.

Hot and messy, pretty much like a fresh barleywine. I guess you could age it but then you lose hop flavoring. Unfocused and poorly thought out.

Not really impressed with this one like I thought I'd be. The heavy astringent alcohol taste takes away from whatever good qualities it has.

Drank out the can in the parking lot before my bs OSHA class lol. Smell is incredible. Grapefruit and sweet pineapple! Taste- really malty and hoppy at the same time throught. A little bitter at the end but not too much. Smooth.. and alcohol hidden very well for 10abv. A little different with all the malt but well done! Would get again.

A malt bomb dipa, which is not my sweet spot. I'm considering doing a drain pour, only because it's a shame to get this drunk from something i really don't like. Didn't help that the can is 5 months old.
