750 ml bottle into a snifter. Had 3/9/19.

Pours an opaque dark brown, with a one and a half inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, some chilies, a little smoke. The flavor also starts with coffee, then chocolate, more chilies than the aroma, vanilla, malt, cocoa, light molasses, light cinnamon on the finish. Smooth, creamy, a very good full body, well carbonated.

The coffee and chocolate are very good, the chilies star with lots of flavor and little heat. The cinnamon doesn’t really show, though. Solid effort and very enjoyable. Well worth a purchase.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a super dark black-brown with no light emerging with backlighting. Nice 2 inch dark mocha finely bubbled head with excellent retention.
S: Soft dark chocolate, dark roast coffee with cream, vanilla, and hints of cinnamon, herbal mint, and chilies. Very aromatic with this hitting the nose from a couple feet away.
T: Dark chocolate, quickly followed by the cinnamon and restrained chilies...then vanilla, coffee and cream...the chilies are picking up a little heat mid-palate...then finishes with more dark chocolate, molasses, and hint of mint.
M: Medium body...much lighter than would be expected given the ABV and description. Dark sweetness with herbal astringency and nicely restrained chili heat. The chilies build in the mid-palate and linger beautifully in the finish. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of chilies in beer, but this one pulls it off perfectly. Excellent balance.
D: What a lovely surprise! Great sipper that delivers everything the label promises with wonderful balance. Well done, River Horse!

I don't see a bottling date but I just received this from the RBC.

A: Pours pitch-black with a very tall and dense dark brown head. Great head retention. Very little to no lacing left behind, however.

S: Notable dark chocolate and cinnamon in the nose. A touch of coffee and just a SMIDGE of vanilla. It could even be the power of suggestion.

T: Cinnamon up front, lightly spicy and then a blast of chili pepper flesh and heat to really ramp it up. A very quick burst of chocolate and then bitter coffee on the back end, very earthy (not sure if that is typical of ugandan coffee). Finish has tons of cinnamon in it, mixing with that coffee and hints of chocolate. Almost reminds me of mexican coffee.

M: Fairly heavy body. A touch oily.

O: Interesting brew. If the coffee stood out more I think it would be really fantastic. It gets buried under all the other flavors though. This one is fairly spicy so be careful, most "spicy" beers are a joke. Having said that, this is hardly a Stone Punishment or something like that.
