Notes: A festive Ale brewed with pumpkin and molasses. A variety of hand-crushed, whole spices set up an impressive aroma and well balanced taste.

I had the good fortune to bring a six-pack of this home from the River Horse Brewery in Lambertville. They had just finished brewing and bottling/kegging it for this season. There were a few cases available for purchase and I thought I would give it a rip.
Appearance - Dark, cloudy and orange. The carbonation is robust, very little head. A very even lacing. It looks good and vibrant!

Smell - I may have had it too chilled for ideal aroma analysis, but there is a distinct smell of pumpkin and spice. Very nice. Sweet and sharp at the same time. As it warmed up the flavors became very distinct. Reminds me of Thanksgiving at Grandma's house.

Taste - You can taste the pumpkin and spices which are not too overpowering. Clove? Nutmeg? This is definitely an Autumn beer. The alcohol is very notable in the finish.

Mouthfeel - The beer is not overly heavy and has a nice texture. I like the rapid carbonation. It adds a lightness to what is a full, sweet, and turbid beer.

Drinkability - This is a nice dessert beer. I would likely only drink one at a sitting, though.

Pours a light brown/burnt orange, lots of haze, about a fingers worth of off-white head that recedes to a frothy layer. Scant lacing.

Smell is pretty standard for a pumpkin ale; clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin, but it seems to be lacking something...can't really tell what it is.

Taste is also pretty standard, but again, seems to be lacking. It just doesn't smack of liquid pumpkin pie like some of the better pumpkin beers out there. It almost seems to have a sweet potato pie taste more than pumpkin. Still, relatively tasty. Clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, although they seem subdued. Some caramel malts mix in with the spice.

Mouthfeel is on the fuller side of medium bodied, good carbonation for the style.

Definitely not the best pumpkin beer I've ever had, but also not bad. Drinkable. But there are definitely better examples of this style out there.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip pint. Considering this is from a six-pack and has a different label from the four-packs, I'm guessing its from last year.

A: Pours a dirty light amber with little head and big chunks on the bottom of the glass...hmm...

S: Smells of yeast, old gourd, and a bit of pie spices. Its a little unbalanced.

T: Flavour is actually better than the nose suggests. Its heaviest on the clove and all spice, but there is a solid, non-sweet pumpkin backing that pushed the whole beer through. A kiss of hops in the finish.

D: Pretty smooth for a 9%. Maybe its the age that mellowed it, but the heat is controlled. Mouthfeel is slick.

Overall: Well done pumpkin ale, and the age hasn't significantly hurt this. That being said, this one is just a bit light on actual pumpkin ale flavours. It tastes more like an imperial golden ale with just a hint of pumpkin pie. Not bad, but not as pumpkin-forward as I like.

Took a trip back up to NJ from FL to see my family and had to go shopping for beers while I was there. I love RH and haven't tried there pumpkin so I was really excited.

A- A nice rich redish amber like color. Nice little ring of foam around the top and a medium amount of carbonation gathering to the top of the glass.

S- Had a good smell, nothing to powering. I cam make out a nice amount of pumpkin along with some other spices.

T- Has a nice body taste. Doesn't drink like a 9abv beer thats for sure. Smooth pumpkin flavor small amounts of cinnamin and nutmeg with kicks of another spice or so.

M- Very smooth, great drinkability. Get a nice malty like finish. Great balance.

Overall- great beer, totally will buy it again. Well done RH! Cheers

What an awesome fall beer. If you're ready for the colder months, this will immediately get you ready.

Pours a nice golden brown color with some creamy colors. Nice amount of head.

Smell is instant rush of sugar and pumpkin. It's fantastic.

Taste is smooth, but not overly pumpkin. If you don't love pumpkin, you'll still like this beer (as compared to something like Smuttynose's version which has pumpkin puree in the beer).

Overall, very solid fall beer. Can't wait to have more of it.
