Really enjoyed this one. Chocolate heavy in both nose and taste but nothing overly sweet. Well made beer and deserves attention from chocolate/beer people.

The chocolate is of a very rich dark 90% caco type. Has a velvety feel going down. Overall very nice

On tap when I had a half hour to kill. Pours nearly black though you can see a little red in it when you hold it up to the light. Strong chocolate scent on the nose, though not cloying or overwhelming. Lacing follows the entire pint down the glass. A malty chocolate flavor with just enough bitterness to add both balance and some complexity. A very nice surprise and a fine way to kill some waiting time. Would have had a second if I was sticking around.

Had this on tap last night at the Cloverleaf up in Caldwell. Almost felt like a Stout because of how smooth it was, as the roasted, burnt notes really weren't able to be felt. This still had enough body to it that it didn't feel light and reminded me of Guinness with a bit more alcohol and sweetness to it. For this time of the year, this was a good precursor to Saint Patrick's Day!

Nice pour to this with a dark brown hue, tan head, and a good amount of lacing on the back of my pint glass after my first few sips. Bitter and burnt chocolate in the nose, which was reinforced with a somewhat burnt tone once I took a sip of this. Smooth and creamy (for a Porter), the vanilla came through in the taste and assisted in the relative easy and creaminess of the mouthfeel. Nice carbonation to this as none of the flavors lingered for long and everything was scrubbed away in a timely manner after each sip went down.

There was alcohol here but I didn't taste it and I could only feel a hint of it once I made my way through my pint. Even though I had this on tap, I would have loved to have this with a nitro pour. While certainly a Porter, this could have easily been mistaken for a Cream Stout, a Dry Irish Stout, or even chocolate milk with something else mixed in for good measure. Certainly one of the better offerings from River Horse and perfect for another night where the snow just won't stop falling...
