had this beer at the presidio golf course in san francisco, i was planning on trying to get down to the beach chalet, but it was too far off the grid, I was pleaseantly surprised when i finished golfing to go into the bar and find several micros on tap, including this excellent ipa from the beach chalet, good color and taste, bitter but not too much and the perfect aftertaste and finish.

**Realized after the fact that this was my 500th review

22oz bomber, courtesy of IrishSnake and the glorious "These go to Eleven" first sampling of the shipment

appearance: pours into a great dane imperial pint glass...body is kind of light and watery, hazy dull golden amber body...light frothy beige head with bubbly lacing

smell: aroma is quite nice...very much a west coast ipa, pungent citrus hop nose, more orange than grapefruit...sweet, pulpy and fruity, light spruce pine....pleasant aroma

taste: bitterness is moderate, flavour is a little flat compared to the aroma, decent toasted malt balance, a little peppery, orange sweetness, green hops, light pine presence, decent toasted feel

mouthfeel: medium bitterness, low carbonation

drinkability: good

I had this on tap at Beach Chalet and then I bought a growler of it and took it home.

Appearance- gold color, thin head

Smell- hops mostly

Taste- hops

Mouthfeel- medium bodied

Drinkability- I thought it was pretty good. At least good enough to get a growler lol. I would drink it again. By far my favorite beer of theirs that I have tried.

Pours a burnished amber. SMall white head.

Doesn't smell, or taste, like an IPA. Has some malt aroma to it, with a definite biting pine taste, but when I think IPA, I think grapefruit and citrus, and this, to me at least, seems almost like a pine laced ESB.

Drinkable, decent, but I wouldn't order again.

Enjoyed this one at the Beach Chalet in San Francisco, watching the Pacific crash into the continental shelf. Excellent spot for a beer and a good memory.

Cloudy amber body with a frothy white head that laces nicely. Mild citrus aroma isn't as bold as other west coast versions, but still packs some nice grapefruit, pine and caramel. Thankfully, the flavour is more intense, with grapefruit and pine complimenting each other nicely and delivering a refreshing bitterness, while a slightly bready caramel body provides a lightly sweet balance. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation.

This turned out to be a very satisfying IPA. Its certainly not a world beater, but it does satisfy an urge.

Again, as with the majority of my Beach Chalet Brewery reviews, this may be slightly skewed by the bliss that is an afternoon spent sitting on the Adirondacks in the sunshine.

Appearance> clear, dark golden, lively. Small head dissipates quickly. Some lacing.

Smell> sweet. Smells of a french cider, with wheat and honey notes.

Taste> Nice. Tastes a bit more like an American Pale, but I can't fault it much because if it was an American Pale I'd say it was a good one. It's tasty but lacks the complexity I have come to expect in Chalet brews.

Mouthfeel> Thin. Easy. Not offensive.

Drinkability> Also pretty easy. I'd have it again if the California Kind, wasn't available and I wasn't in the mood for a few of the other ones I prefer over it. At the end of the day, it's easy to drink and my friends liked it a lot, so I foresee being party to a pitcher of it again soon.

Purchased this bomber during a trip to Beach Chalet (See Reveiw). It pours a quick billowy head that quickly dissipates. The color is light amber; the body contains a profusion of carbonation bubbles. Their is moderate lacing.

There are subtle lemon notes in the nose and on the palate, the latter being greeted with some bitter aftertaste.

I thought it too light to be called an IPA, but what do I know. Not bad, though I did have a nice lunch at the Beach Chalet.

On tap at Beach Chalet on 7/14/09.

A - Clear golden body with bubbly white head that settled into a patchy retention and left sparse lacing on the glass.

S - Fairly prominent hop presence suggesting citrus and spicy hops (Amarillo?) paired with sweet caramel malt and subtle alcohol notes.

T - Quite hoppy with citrusy and piney notes backed by sweet caramel malt. Slight alcohol sting in the finish.

M - Medium body with a slight sticky, syrupy texture and a touch of alcohol warmth on the palate. Finishes with a moderate lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue.

D - Pretty solid IPA that had quite a bit more of a bitter hop character than I had anticipated.
