Like the Cabro Lager, also from Guatamala City, Monte Carlo is pale and fizzy with little to recommend it, especially at the import price.

The watery beer has a flavor profile reminiscent of damp wall board and unlit charcoal. Guzzled directly from a very cold ice chest, it could get the job done of slaking a sweaty thirst. But let this beer warm up even just a bit and you will be sorry.

BB:May/24 printed on bottle neck of 12oz bottle poured into Teku glass on Nov 2, 2023.

Appearance - Clear light straw body. Small white one finger head. Somewhat bready. Good lacing and stick, if irregular. Decent to low retention. 4.5

Smell - Little to no smell. Faint corn. 3.25

Taste - Not bad at first. Has good hop up front. Some malt to balance it out. But by the time you hit the middle it has an acrid sour, off-putting flavor. Disappears on subsequent sips, but begins to linger in the aftertaste. Corn? Soap? Yeah a weird bitterness in the finish. 3

Mouthfeel - Light bodied. A slight chew, maybe thanks to the head. A bit astringent in the finish but you can ignore it. But should you have to? 3

Overall - Was honestly expecting worse from a place known for deep frying tacos. Mid but not bad. 3

I went to a shrimp and fish fry, and took this to the party.
Cans, and drank from the can at the party
Appearance, golden yellow.
Smells corn, malt.
Taste follows the nose
Mouth feel is medium light for a lager with a lot of carbonation.
Overall, not a beer I would order again, but I might if taking a 12 pack to a party. $13 including the tax.

Refreshing, light, moderate personality. Within the " American Adjunt Lager" is not the worst, even it maintains a decent level.

Poured from a green 12 oz. bottle. The fact that the back label says "contains sulfites" has me a little concerned already. Has a very pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is skunky, a bit of corn. Taste also has some skunk, corn, grainy, some light hops are present at the finish. Feels light in the mouth and overall, not terrible, and might be quite refreshing in the Central American heat, but there are better cheap lagers out there.

Monte Carlo
12 oz.green glass bottle

Notes: Clear, golden body. Standard sized bubbles; bright white head. Limited head retention and minimal lacing = average at best. Mildly skunked as there aren't that many hops in the first place. Adjunct malt gives very little "malt" flavor. Just a smear of dull herbal and grassy hops... agh, perhaps a bit floral as well, or is that alcohol and/or yeasty fruitiness stepping forward? Light-medium in body. Crisp carbonation. Moderate bitterness somewhere around 15-20 IBUs. Average "European" style beer made in South America. It actually tastes a little like a Russian "Euro lager".

Monte Carlo, great casino, the beer? Well, let's give it a whirl. Pours into a SAPP with a light yellow straw color with a bright white foamy head that holds up for a little while. On the tats this brew is classic adjunct malts, sweet with a slight bitterness that stays the same throughout including the aftertaste. Nothing special here.
