A 250ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2010. It's a little out of date, but I picked it up cheap from my local off-licence.

Poured into a Stella chalice. A pale golden hue with good clarity and medium carbonation. Yields a head of white foam that disappears after a couple of minutes. Aroma is sweet with notes of fruity esters and spice. Also a solventy off-note that is out of place. It does smell like a Belgian blonde - but more of an approximation than the real thing.

Taste is sweet but watery. Some malt character; no bitterness. Faint notes of esters and yeast; maybe a hint of bananas. It has a character reminiscent of Leffe blonde, but watered down. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly oily. Leaves a mild dryness on the palate. Weak aftertaste - not entirely pleasant.

A pretty poor imitation of the style. This used to be available in Tesco - designed as a cheap supermarket copy of branded beers (I had it once before at a friend's place a while back). It's biggest flaw is the weak flavour, although there are some off-notes spoiling it as well. I don't know if this will still be available in the future, but if it is don't be afraid to give it a miss.

250 mL brown bottle poured into a glass.

Pours with a thick, rich-looking head, but a pale yellow brew underneath (only slightly more interesting than an adjunct lager).

Interesting, rustic and earthy scents augmenting the typical sweet/rich Belgian aromas.

Taste is sub-par for a Belgian blonde, as it comes off a little flat. It's almost like drinking a Belgian "lite," if there were such a thing.

Mouthfeel is a bit flat as well, nothing special to report.

I'm thinking that Palm is brewing this as a cheaper version to export outside of Belgium?
