Estaminet Pils is a solid offering but it reminds me more of a pale euro lager. The color is clear golden with white head that is lacing. The scent carries saaz like hops. The taste is decently balanced and would be a nice sessionable beer. Overall its good.

Pale yellow pour, rich white head at first, pops away in time, but the retention is still decent.
Clean smell of grainy malts and stewed hops, bit of fruit too.
Taste starts with malts, not too syrupy sweet (tho there are some faint corn hints), but balanced with grains and honey. Some apple acidity, pear, a tiny bit of fruity sweetness. Surprising finish, with a nice clear hop presence, spicy, green, a bit floral, decent bitterness.
Light body, somewhat fizzy, hops clean up the unwanted corn in the aftertaste.
Not a run-of-the-mill "Belgian pilsener", but packed with nice hops and balanced.

I had it on tap last Saturday at Sharper Edge in Pittsburgh. There were 2 other Belgium Pils on tap Bavik and Primus ,both of which I've had before and found somewhat typical. The standard and favorite for Belgium drinkers is Jupiter though Stella Artois is the one known best in the USA. I find Belgium Pils to have a clean refreshing finish. They are excellent after a long summer day. These are what American beers would like to be, clean honest brew but without the corn and far more elegant. This Estaminet on the other hand is not like any of the others beginning with a somewhat cloudy straw color and a very different aroma and bouquet. I'm not sure how to describe the taste, it's different but in a pleasant way and I had two.The esters are interesting to say the least. It's a nice diversion from the usual Pils and lager without the hops though without looking I'm not sure. I'm happy to have met this beer and wish I could meet the people behind it's creation. I'd ask them for some yeast because frankly this style I've never tasted.I'm going to the Palm site to find out more.
