.33L bottle, best by stamped 22 Feb. 2014, served in a Belgian snifter.

Pours clear, even with a bit of sediment at the bottom added to the pour. Dark red-brown body is topped by a small tan head.

Fine aroma, and nearly as fine flavor, feature dark fruits (dried plums, figs, dates), toffee, a trace of spicy hops, and a solid dark-roasted malt base. Lightly sweet.

Feel: near medium body is a bit watery; overly harsh/coarse carbonation.

O: worth seeking out as a relatively inexpensive Belgian dark.

27th May 2012: bottle at ‘Willow Springs’, an American Way Station in Belgium (don’t ask!).

Dark amber/brown body with a full head of off-white bubbles that tried to stay the distance and almost managed too.

Roasted and toasted malts giving off a chocolate type aroma and taste, dark and bitter chocolate actually, surprisingly dry and un-sweet for the aroma and look it gives.

Went well with my ‘Chilli Beans’, so I had another.

Best before 2/22/14.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, bread, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and burnt caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that smells better than it tastes in my opinion.

First up, a lower alcohol version of Buffalo from Brouwerij Van Den Bossche.

It pours pitch black with a dense and creamy tan head.

Smells of fruity dark malt, sweet and with a hint of some metallic aromas.

Sweet in the mouth with just a hint of roastiness. Lovely balance that I wasn't expecting. Mocha and hint of dark chocolate. Underpinnings of ripe dark fruit. Medium-bodied with a sweet finish and a uncharacteristically clean finish.

Very flavorful but smooth and drinkable. A good start!

Buffalo pours dark brown and clear (SRM 28-30) with a frothy, half-inch, beige head that last a long while, leaving slight lacing and a viscous film that clings to the tulip glass.

Toasted malt and alcohol fumes are followed by light chocolate, some candied sugar, and a noticeable metallic aroma.

Faint chocolate mixes with rum before a mild metallic finish. This one is too bitter for its style, with only a hint of sweetness and a light roasted character.

The light body is almost thin. While well carbonated, the combined effect is a watery texture.

This is an uninspiring beer, but was still enjoyed after a long day.
