Presentation: Sampled at Dempseys Restaurant and Brewery in Petaluma, CA during a recent road trip from Long Beach to Santa Rosa.
Described in the Dempseys Menu and on the Website as:
Petaluma Pale Ale is a lighter style pale made with 100% pale malted barley and enough hops to give it a pleasant hop character without being too bitter. This is our answer to the question, "Can I get a beer?
Appearance: Served in a Stange-style glass the off-white creamy head was enough to top off the brew with a nice looking presentation. Mild lacing and medium carbonation.
Nose: Fresh hops with a biscuit like malt background. Above average in strength. Hints of caramel.
Taste: Malt backbone is balanced against a hop character that just sneaks the levels of malt but never dominates. Hops are not in yer face, quite rare for a SoCal APA, but I actually enjoyed that aspect of this brew, you get chance to experience the balancing malts whilst enjoying the contribution from the hops without being bamboozled.
Mouthfeel: Easy going, hard to tell whether it was a little thin or just so nicely balanced that it drank so easily. Ill give it the benefit of the doubt because the carbonation supported well without interfering.
Drinkability: Quaffable, the poised malt/hop balance and beneficial hop rate makes it easy to finish one of these in a few gulps.
Overall: Nicely balanced, a good solid American Pale Ale.

At Toronado...
Appearance- nice golden colour with no head and no lacing. Not lively
Smell- oddly sweet can't place it, hops. Pleasant
Taste- tastes like a mix between a peach lambic and an English pale. Sweet, hoppy. Finishes like a fruitful with a hint of resin. I am a little bit confused by this taste...
Mouf- Exactly right for a pale
Drinkability- nice for a summer day and not too sweet that I couldn't handle more than one

This is a basic, pretty standard, but decent, pleasant, drinkable, American pale ale.
This is somewhat dark gold with a small head that quickly disappears to leave nothing.
It has a mild aroma of lightly toasted grain and citrusy, flowery hops.
It has a slightly stronger taste but this is still very light, being mostly a thin, light taste of crackers and citrusy-grapefruity hop, a character I don't like much but which is ok. It is, though, well-balanced with a very light bite just taking over before the cracker finish. It's crisp, light, drinkable while still having some flavour, but not particularly satisfying, with an all-too-common two-note quality of cracker and citrus that is also rather thin, while the appearance is weak.
