Black draft with ruby on fringes, khaki head. Chocolate malt nose. Somewhat flowery taste, some chocolate, but more flowery hop flavor. Thin, weak mouthfeel. Odd rose petal finish. Not impressed.

It's okay, probably your standard run of the mill stout. Nothing stood out, but it certainly wasn't horrible. Taste was a bit heavy but lacks in bitterness. Comes out with hints of coffee.

Sonoma Brewing Co, Dempsy’s Ugly Dog Stout

A- 2 inch thick head, amazing lace, very dark almost black. Great for the style. Considered an “export stout.”

S- Malt roast, caramel sweet but not overwhelming. The tell-tale coffee scent is present, but (thankfully) it is not overbearing.

T- Good malt and nice full body. There is a great toasty-taste. On the finish, the coffee hits fairly strong, as is to be expected. The hint of caramel from the nose hits mid palate, with some hints of banana. As the beer opens and breathes the coffee flavor does seem to settle out just a little. Good carbonation for the style. By far the best one I've tried from this brewery!

This is one of the best Dempsey's beers I've had so far and is an excellent, well-rounded, characterful stout that seems to be in the "export stout" style.

Almost, but not quite, totally black with just a little light coming through, it has a smallish tan head steadily dissipating to a thin ring and no lace.

Aroma is nice, fairly firm and full-bodied with some nicely rounded complexity. It has fermented prunes, coffee, dark toast, a hint of charcoal, some sweet molasses character. It is not very rich or complex, but still has good body and some complexity.

Taste is excellent, well-rounded and balanced, with some depth and complexity. It has nice, dark prune and molasses sweetness with roasty-woody-coffee bitterness with a strong element of dryish dark, woody toast. It has light hint of sourness or soured prunes, and a gentle, light warming alcoholic quality. The balance is very good and it holds up well. Feel is not special but is solid and firm. Drinkability is high.
