Presentation: 330ml Gloss Black straight sided can, white writing in a metallic gold oval states “New Zealand Lager Premium Beer, 5.0% Alc/Vol.” The last (thankfully) of a handful of canned presents from a friend and his wife who vacationed in Rarotonga (NZ) recently.

Writing on the side says (somewhat laughingly) “Proudly brewed from Local and Imported Ingredients (?) by Independent Breweries (NZ) Ltd, 35 Hunua Road, Papakura, Auckland, New Zealand”

Appearance: Nice golden body, clear with only a few CO2 streamers adding to its staid appearance. The usual massive white head when poured, that sadly completely disappears sooner, rather than, later. No lacing and minimal inherent carbonation.

Nose: Sweetness hits you immediately. Has an almost sweet bread smell. Some lightly roasted malts – not much in the way of hops at all, in fact now I check again, nothing at all.

Taste: Sweet, lightly roasted malts, some honey flavors and a little cloying in the backend. Apart from that, not much to be writing home about, or even New Zealand for that matter.

Mouthfeel: Pretty average, a light-ish lager that has just above scrapes an average mouthfeel due to the sweet-honey malts. Not exactly clean tasting with some lingering sweetness.

Drinkability: Not bad, Not Good, - a “Middle of the Road” Sweet Lager.

Overall: Memorable – for all the wrong reasons.
