12oz brown bottle with a freshness date, sample from the brewery.

Two fingers of light brown head on top of a very deep and dark brew. Big chocolate and coffee nose with hints of dark fruit. Very roasty but not bitter or very burnt much at all, juicy with a dark fruitiness. Unsweetened chocolate, chicory, mild roast coffee and light molasses. Very true to the brewers intention and the style they are going for here, a real meaty Robust Porter and one hell of a treat to drink.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color with a finger and a half of caramel-colored head that slowly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that almost completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Wow! Lots of earthy, roasted malt up front, imparting notes of freshly toasted dark bread, as well as lots of coffee and dark chocolate, a touch of licorice and smoke. Very, very earthy.

Taste: Excellent, with lots of roasted malt up front, followed by some brown sugar-like sweetness, touches of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and smoke.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and slightly chewy, and creamy and smooth as there is very little in the way of carbonation. With an ABV of 6.8%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a really, really, good porter! Lots of flavor, in a really satisfying, quaffable beer. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle, this fine English porter pours a near pitch black with brown highlights, a moderate head of foam that dissipates to a thick ring and some great lacing. Nose of dark sweet chocolate, sweet dark malts, roasted coffee, and some raisin notes. Flavors are up front deep roasted goodness with chocolate and coffee coming into play on all sides, some black raisin notes, and a lightly roasted malts character in the aftertaste with little hop notes. A stout drinkers porter! Moderate carbonation, smooth mouth feel....absolutely great!

Cheers

Came in a standard pint glass a deep dark chocolate brown with a deeper beige head atop.Hardwood smoke, earth, and chcolate in the nose, good smokiness without being too much. The smoke hits up front on the palate bu again not overbearing, chocolate and coffee roast in the finish. The body is just a tad prickly other than that this is a real solid smoked porter.

Great mouth feel. Nice notes of chocolate and coffee without being overpowering. Very nice porter underneath the mocha taste. I usually don't notice the smell, but this one smells great. Definitely will be a go to porter for me.

Taste: Chocolate and toasted brown bread forward, with an earthy hop character building through the middle; touches of smoke, fruit and coffee in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice porter; like the fruit and chocolate elements and the touch of smoke

Pours black in color with a copper colored head that begins to turn khaki in color and foamy as it settles onto the beer.

Flavor profile is smokey at first. Gets a little tart in the end. Aftertaste really lingers more than it should. Halfway through the beer I'm wondering where that smokiness went. Mouthfeel and carbonation are excellent, exactly to my liking. All in all a pretty good, earthy, porter.

The bottle says best by May 09, 2015.

This was a delicious and very robust draft porter. Just a shade below a stout. Nice layered roasted barley notes with some bitter chocolate in the finish. Enjoyed every sip.

Pours a deep brown color with a dark tan head. Head is medium size with less than average retention. Lacing is just isolated spots on the pint glass. Strong and pleasant aroma of rich sweet malt, a little lactose like milk stout and some coffee. Taste is more of the same, slightly sweet and malty with some coffee. There is a some smokiness is the taste that is not found in the aroma and slight bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is rich and mostly smooth with a touch of bitterness in the end. No alcohol presence noticeable. A very enjoyable porter.

On-tap 2/6/2015 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a medium brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out smoky with flavors of black coffee and dark chocolate. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in along with a little bit of sweetness. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, it’s a solid beer but there are other porters that I would choose first.

Poured into a straight shaker: color is black, amber edges, head is tan presenting about 1/2 inch thick, then dissipating quickly to nothing with no lacing.

Smell is deep malt, chocolate, espresso, toffee, then drying and earthy hop undertones with subtle yeastiness.

Taste emphasizes the aromas with a dark chocolate bitterness that blends with dry espresso and some light sweetness; subtle fruitiness from the yeast byproducts then some drying hop bitterness with earthy/grassy flavors.

Mouthfeel balances the strong flavors and dryness from the bitterness and fermentation, tongue dries out nicely without much cloying malt flavor.

Overall, a very, very good porter; maybe more traditional or cask like in presentation from the fruit subtleness and crisp dry feel.

I long ago recognized Heavy Seas as a brewer that consistently make tasty products. This is no exception.

It looks typical. Pretty much opaque. The smallish head and fizz has fine bubbles and is a nice light brown. Nice lacing. The aroma is faint but totally clean (nothing bad). It's somewhat hoppy smelling for the style, but it is faint.

The taste is a very roasty and slightly hoppy porter. The malt profile is lower than most, but the balance definitely works. The aftertaste is a burnt bitter, very pleasant lingering flavor. This is an extremely drinkable porter and I wish I had a whole bucket of them to drink this afternoon.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that died down, leaving lots of lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of chocolate malts are present in the nose. Slight hints of coffee also become perceptible as the beer warms up.
T: The taste has flavors of dark, chocolate malts along with hints of mocha and coffee beans. Although no bitterness is noticeable, there are enough hops to help malts any sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This porter is rather flavorful and goes down easily. It is a good representation of the style.
