A barrel-aged Imperial Coffee Porter.

Blackbeard's Breakfast is a robust porter with a new world twist. Aged in bourbon barrels and brewed with local Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company's Dark Sumatra coffee, this porter is flavorful and complex. Featuring unique English malts, this brew will have strong notes of caramel and a slight nut character. Paired with bourbon notes and the sumptuous Sumatran Coffee, Blackbeard's Breakfast will please coffee and beer connoisseurs alike. The limited draft only version is finished with house made caramel and salt to create an even more complex and tantalizing flavor.

On Draught, a black pour with a head that fades, as does the light random lacing. Carbonation is low.
Dark toasted malt, molasses and coffee dominant the off dry flavor. A little tangy, bittersweet chocolate as well. The 10% ABV is fairly well masked, not a boozy as expected.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into my oversized wine glass, this beer pours a very dark brown, practically black color with a tan head that's about 1/3 of an inch thick when first poured. Head settles pretty quickly to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along w/ some nice cluster swirls of film layer surface foam and a good bit of lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, hints of coffee, some bourbon oak, notes of tobacco and vanilla. A very similar flavor profile with the aforementioned roasted malts, notes of chocolate and coffee, some bourbon oak, and hints of vanilla and tobacco. The 105 AVB is nicely integrated into the flavor profile here, as this only taste slightly boozy. AN excellent flavor profile all around. Has a somewhat crisp, also smooth, slightly chewy/sticky, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The flavors really coat the inside of my palate and like to linger there for quite awhile needed after each sip.

May 3 2025 Bottle poured into a tulip glass
Look: Black with almost no head.
Smell: My allergies make it difficult to smell anything, frankly, but dark chocolate, coffee. Nothing intense.
Taste: Burnt black coffee, not overly sweet, some bitterness, unsweetened dark chocolate. I don't get much bourbon at all. It's somewhat dry. The alcohol is well-hidden.
Feel: Soft carbonation, medium body.
Overall: I like breakfast/coffee stouts and porters. This is ok, but I prefer Founders Oatmeal, for example. This is good, but it's a little on the dry side, and I really don't get much other than unsweetened dark chocolate and black coffee. It needs to be more intense, and a little sweeter.

8 ball black with a short but creamy dark tan head.

Black coffee. Already winning. This then cozies up to Irish coffee with a toffee element, in addition to the booze and a little bitter char. It also nears mocha with a touch of chocolate.

Perhaps thinner and a little more crisp than the pastry hoard has indoctrinated us into craving, but well done. Bitterness actually increases as it warms over time, a bit rooty, earthy.

From the bottle, the pour is jet black with a khaki head of foam. The taste is dark roasted coffee, rich roasted malt, big bourbon barrel oak, prunes, along with some hints of pipe tobacco, vanilla, & molasses. The 10% abv is well hidden. In general, this was a good barrel aged porter but the coffee could be bolder. Cheers! A-

Just as dark as a good porter should be. The tan head is small and disappears rather quickly without leaving much lacing. Coffee and caramel pop up immediately in the aroma. Rather than strong bourbon notes, the smokiness takes on a cigar-like attribute. A fleeting hint of dark fruit sneaks in on the taste buds before the more familiar coffee flavor hogs the spotlight. Lingering sweetness remains a constant. Smooth, softly carbonated, full bodied mouthfeel. Overall, a really good porter that packs a punch.

Black in color with no light penetration. There’s a fingernail of brown around the rim and there’s otherwise a thin wisp over a third of the top. The aroma is of bourbon. I suspect the coffee might have dissipated as I bought this about 6 months prior to cracking it. I’m getting some dark coffee and smoke aroma as it warms. I’m tasting bourbon, coffee, and dark malt. The mouth is dry and a bit warm with alcohol.

Looks are no different than a stout. Short brown head that quickly vanished. Molasses film lace on the glass.
Smell and Taste: Strong coffee notes with some bourbon on the nose. For a 10% ABV it doesn't seem very boozy. Quite sweet. Good for a desert beverage.
Feel: Oily, syrupy.
Overall: It's a good beer but I can't rate it a Great beer.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of bourbon, oak, vanilla, coffee and chocolate. It tasted boozy with bourbon, vanilla, oak and roasted coffee.
