Über Pils

Arguably our most well-balanced beer, Small Craft Warning seems at once hop-forward and malt-forward; our brewers debate over which flavor force prevails in the beer. Small Craft exemplifies a robust pilsner - it's crisp, well-carbonated, and slightly sweet. The beer is characterized by a firm malt backbone and a pronounced hop character. A fine aroma, from an array of hops, completes this quaffable beer.

Serving type: bottle into a Stella Atrois glass

Pours a dark straw color with hints of amber. Very clear with a thick head that dissipates on lip contact. A little too dark for what you would expect for a pils so loses a point or two there. Aroma is very good. Maltiness is very apparent with some sweetness there too.

Taste is awesome. Very smooth with an accent on the malty side. For a pils it's a little under bitter with not as much hoppiness as you would expect. A lot of sweetness comes through too but surprisingly no hot alcohol which is a plus. The flavor is almost there to perfect but it just misses. Mouthfeel is just incredible. The body definitely helps the beer. Sure it got some help from the large grain bill but it's still done very well. After all this it's still a really drinkable beer. Really clean and really well done.

Overall this is a great beer. I wish i had bought more of it. Would certainly order at a pub, purchase in a store or accept as a gift. Well done.

Into my pilsener glass, it pours a light golden color and leaves the same color body. A one inch white foamy head appears and settles to a half-centimeter fairly quickly and leaves a nice show of speckled spider web lacing. Carbonation rises at a moderate pace. The smell has the malts up front with a nice fighting punch from the noble hops helping to give a decent spiciness. The taste is well balanced between the malts and hops helping to make it slightly sweet and bitter in different ways. The palate is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, great balance all around. I would say this is very drinkable. Overall, this is good and I’d come back to it.

Not balanced. Alcohol comes through, not heat but overpowering flavor-wise. Dogfish nailed a 10% imperial pilsner. I recommend that 1000% over this mess. Sorry heavy season, but toured going to have to try harder.
