Notes / Commercial Description:
SAVOR 2015 Collaboration Beer

Philadelphia’s Yards Brewing Company joined forces with Baltimore’s Heavy Seas Beer to create the aptly named Philtimore, an English-style pale ale with a New World character. From the label:

There’s nothing like the bold, brash spirit of a city to inspire a great craft brew. But two cities? We didn’t know what would happen when Baltimore’s Heavy Seas Beer and Philly’s Yards Brewing Company were asked to create this year’s SAVOR collaboration beer together. Well, the proof is in the pale ale. Aged on white oak, Philtimore is both crisp and fruity; English-inspired and American hopped. A true collaboration. Next on our list? Crab cake cheesesteaks.

Damn, and I thought I was disappointed by last years collab. Maybe SAVOR will try next year. This beer is so bland and boring. I didnt expect a ton when I saw who was making it, but this didnt even make it to either of their standards.

On cask at The Dandelion in Philly. Another nice pour by Christy into a "pineapple" mug. Posted as "Philtamore" EPA. Nice name and label for this collab. Once the head dissipated, this one was only so so. I love a cask ale and The Dandelion is one of my favorite spots to cask. Get some because this may be the last EPA collaboration.

The beer pours a nice white fluffy head that dissipates quickly but still leaves a nice lacing around the inside of the glass. The beer itself is a clear medium gold. The overall presentation is very nice. It looks nice, clean, and very appealing.

The smell is very nice. The smell seems to have stronger malt notes than hop notes but the hops still hold their own. The malt notes have a nice bready smell while the hops are fairly floral. The beer has a strong resemblance to the Yards Brawler but the White Oak gives it a bit more something with the vanilla notes mixing with the malts, and that the hops seem stronger.

The taste is very good. The main notes that come out are what appears to be a nice strong malt presence that resembles Yards Brawler with a unique hop note that seems familiar from Heavy Seas. The malt note is bready and a it bitter while the hop is a little tea-like but floral. The white oak also has a little vanilla sweetness to it that makes the malt note seem less bitter. The hops and malt notes seem to balanced so that no one overthrows the other.

The mouthfeel is pretty good. The beer is fairly light for a pale ale but still has some heft to give it a body. The carbonation is light but helps with the refreshing feel it gives. The finish is a little bit dry but not super dry and actual mostly refreshing.

Overall, a pretty good beer and definitely a best for both Yards and Heavy Seas. The tasteis certainly unique while the appearance is very good looking. I'm glad to have gone to SAVOR and get my hands on this brew.

Deep red in color with a blood orange hue. Started with a light haze but seemed to clarify a little over time. Poured with a thick, dense, off-white foam with medium retention. Medium high complex esters of apples and pear with medium malty aromas. Medium low floral hop aromas. Medium bodied and smooth. Very low carbonation as this sample was cask conditioned. Medium bready malty flavors with a light toffee note. Once again, medium high fruit flavors of apple and pear. Medium low floral hop flavors through the middle and light hop bitterness near the end. Finished with a malty, fruity finish. A nicely balanced malty, estery English ale with subtle hop character Very easy drinking.
