This is a fabulous dark beer. Smooth mouth feel with a little kick. Chocolate, coffee, and malt flavors. Not overly carbonated. I love this beer! If they would age it in bourbon barrels OMG! It would be off the charts. And this is the bottle. I imagine on tap it is heavenly.

Fuck you fucking hipsters, this beer deserves at least a 4. God y'all are infesting beer culture and bringing it down to soyboy status. Keep suckling on your phytoestrogenic IPAs with your gynocemastia, high pitched voice and undescended testicles. Solid beer.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Dark brown color. Sandy head retains at a quarter inch. Foamy collar of lacing.

S: Roasty, fudge sauce, chocolate truffles, bitter dark chocolate, mocha, molasses, fruit cake, hints of earthy hop.

T: Molasses, burnt crust, black coffee, dark chocolate, roasty. Earthy hops. Raisins and stewed prunes. Lingering roasty and smokey finish.

M: Rich, thick, and chewy. Coating. Fine carbonation.

O: A good no-frills take on the style. A perfectly fine beer, though it runs the risk of being perhaps a bit mundane.

From the bottle, it pours a dark brown, almost black, with a modest head, soon reducing to a ring. Nose gets the coffee and roasted malt. Mouth gets the same. Coats the tongue nicely.

Here goes my first review:

12 oz. bottle with a Best By Date of 11/26/17 poured into a tulip glass

L - Pours a dark black color with a thick foaming head that dissipates quickly but leaves good lacing

S - Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and toasted malt. Scent becomes more pronounced as the beer warms

T - Taste is similar to the scent - chocolate, coffee and toasted malt with a hint of hops bitterness in the finish

M - Very smooth, creamy feel with low carbonation. Almost silky

O - Not the beer for Sunday afternoon tailgating, but an excellent sipping beer for unwinding after dinner. The chocolate and coffee flavors seem like dessert in a glass. I will definitely be getting more of this.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours deep black with a creamy one-finger khaki head that has good retention and leaves some lacing behind

S- lighter aroma overall but picking up notes of roasted malt, chocolate and a hint of coffee

T- creamy roasted malt and chocolate up front, followed by notes of fig and prune, finishing with a hint of coffee and more chocolate

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a silky finish

O- nice straight-forward RIS with good drinkability

The smell has roasted coffee tones up front with some fig and dates in the background, chocolate is there but very subdued, one really has to pull for both of these even after as the beer warms. It pours a jet black and leaves the same color body. A one centimeter mocha colored head appears and dies immediately. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The taste takes all of those smells to combine a nice sweet roastiness. The palatel is about a medium with some slight harshness on the tongue, nothing bad, but noticeable. It is slightly dry. I would say it is slightly drinkable, probably have one or two in a session. Overall, this is not a bad RIS, but I’ve had better.

Look - Pours black with a short light brown head, good retention, no lacing.
Aroma - Cocoa powder, hint of smoke, lots of caramel.
Taste - Milk chocolate, equal parts roasted and toasted malt, burnt caramel and weak coffee on the finish. Bitterness is low.
Feel - Medium-Full bodied, slightly oily, smooth carbonation.

Overall - Very good, easy to drink and full flavored.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tumbler style pint glass.

It pours thick and very dark brown, looking black and opaque in the glass. The one and a half fingers of medium brown foamy head eventually diminished to just a foamy ring with slick lacing. The moderate nose is dominated with coffee aromas and backed up with roasted malt and alcohol. it has nice bitterness all the way through to the finish which again has noticeable alcohol presence. Coffee, bitter chocolate and roasted malt with a touch of sweetness make up the rest of the flavor. Body is medium heavy with a nice creamy feel and the carbonation is in the vicinity of light to medium.

Not a top tier stout but a fairly solid drinkable one. I have had three to four in an evening in the past.
