Pours a deep dark brown bordering on with reddish hue, minimal effervescence and scant head which resolves rather quickly with minimal lacing. Smells strongly of dark cherry, new leather, molasses, cocoa, brown sugar
Sweet roasted malts forward, with complex medley of contrasting malty, smokey, leathery with strong notes of vanilla, oak, clean finish. Body is medium and has enough astringency to prevent it from becoming syrupy.

Overall a very complex, with apparently multiple woods involved in the aging process - reminds me of Dogfish's Palo Santo Marron - with a little more complexity and slightly thinner body. Makes for a good aperitif or after dinner desert beer. Can be enjoyed and sipped on its own.
I'll stock up on this and see how it responds to aging. . .

Poured from 22 oz. bomber to tulip.

A: Hazy garnet, almost purple. Quickly fading head leaving a very small ring.
S: Prune, red grape, grassyness, brown sugar.
T: Dark fruits and yeasty funkiness at the beginning, oaky textures throughout, Charred aftertaste.
M: Medium-full.
O: Alright. Not the most pleasant aftertaste.

Enjoyed from a snifter. Has a reddish brown hue, with a nose of alcohol, cherry and licorice.

Has a heavy taste of licorice at first sip. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Initially there is a flat, pretty strange aftertaste which is a bit discouraging. After warming up for a few minutes, the aftertaste disappears and this transforms into quite a tasty brew. Not the best quad I've had, but I'll definitely have it again.

My first thought with this beer was how good it would taste during the holiday season. It would just pair very nicely at a big holiday dinner. It has some bold flavor, brandy, brown sugar, and raisins. Since it's a spring offering it might do well paired with Easter dinner and balance out the salty ham with the sweetness of this beer. Otherwise it is a tad overwhelming on it's own.

2016 release
22 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

Looks like thin maple syrup in the glass. It is crowned by a one finger tan head that leaves just a bit of lace along with an oily coating on the side of the glass.

The nose is fairly strong and full of raisin, fig, caramel and molasses. Some alcohol is present as well.

Taste is smooth and sweet finishing with a a little tang and touch of heat. Simple and straightforward, dark fruit and molasses are the mainstays of flavor.

Medium bodied with low carbonation it is soft and viscous.

Not complex but easy sipping and very enjoyable. Wish I had more of these hidden away.

On-tap 6/24/2016 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a very thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains candy sugar, Belgian yeast, caramelized malts and dark fruit.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of candy sugar, dark fruit, caramel and licorice. Then some breadiness comes in from Belgian yeast and a hearty malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easy, slightly filling, strong well-disguised kick, decent representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for while if you’re in the mood for the style.

A-dark brown with ruby highlights and a light cream colored head

S-caramel, dark fruits, vanilla

T-taste is similar to the smell with a heavy caramel malt backbone, dark fruits, yeast, and a slight oakeyness. Moderate alcohol warming is present.

M-medium and sticky body, moderate carbonation

Overall not the best of the style but still enjoyable

A: This poured a cloudy dark mahogany with no head.
S: It smelled like dark fruit and dry earthy leather and wood, with some molasses and vanilla.
T: It tasted like prune and fig and cherries, with some molasses and oak and vanilla and leather. It had a clean earthy sweet aftertaste.
M: It was oily with a bit of carbonation. Nice slick body.
D: This was a delicious brew with complex scent and taste that improved as it warmed. The body was a bit weak, but the finish was smooth, so it was easy to drink. No need to age, although it could last. Recommended.

Poured a copper body that is dense and has little bit of head and lace. The aroma struck me mostly as dark fruits, raisins and plums especially, with bits of spice and booze. Thick bodied, heavy drinking and slow sipping brew that had dark fruit tastes, again mostly raisins and plums with bits of figs and/or dates, and there is a bit of sweetness and spice and booze in the finish. Not a bad quad but the flavors aren't well balanced and it comes across as muddled with a touch of alcohol bleeding into finish that makes finishing this beer a bit of chore as it warms (and, if you're a lightweight like me, buzzed).
