The strongest beer that we've ever created, Schnee Boot is dark, malty, and roasty with hints of cocoa, vanilla, and dark fruits. This beast of a lager gets additional complexity from bourbon barrel aging. Inspired by Antarctic exploration, Schnee Boot (Snow Boat) is the vessel to transport you to a far away tundra.

A: Medium brown in color with a tan head.

S: Big malty aroma with dark bread, and raisins. Sweet molasses and caramel with vanilla and oak.

T: Big beautiful malt, sweet and rich. Like a vanilla caramel truffle with a bourbon chaser.

M: Medium in body with medium high carbonation, despite that there is a nice syrupy quality to it.

O: Overall a pretty delicious malt bomb of a bourbon beer.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and is topped with a thin cap of khaki foam. Nose is malty and sweet, bourbon barrel, vanilla, dark fruit and molasses. Taste is sweet and malty, barrel flavor has held up well, dark fruit, bitter chocolate and molasses flavors finish with a tang. Mouthfeel is full, creamy, viscous and ends with some heat. Carbonation is low.

While this is sweet and has a high ABV the alcohol is not at all harsh and it is attenuated enough making this rather easy drinking for a 13% beer.

Deepest darkest brown without being black tone to its color, it leaves virtually no head that dissipates completely within seconds. Upon smelling, I notice vanilla, dark cherry, coconut, and that unmistakable bourbon boozy bewilderment. Taste I get more cherry than anything and it lingers upon the tongue. Also getting some raisin, chocolate and again a whole lotta bourbon. Not a terribly complex taste but extremely tasty. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and mildly effervescent. I don’t believe I’ve ever had an eisbock so I can’t really compare it to anything. But it is a wood aged beer and certainly it’s a lot like a barley wine. Overall this is a delicious beer, I love brews that are this high in abv, and I’m giving it top ratings.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark auburn with ruby hues; small light khaki head that fades leaving decent retention and lacing. The aromas have lots of dark fruits. Lots of caramel and toffee. Hints of coconut and vanilla. Mild hints of cocoa in the mix. The bourbon is balanced. Lots of malts. The flavors follow the nose. More caramel leading the way along with some toffee. Some raisins and plums coming through. More vanilla and coconut in the mix. The bourbon comes through and accentuates everything that's going on. Strong malt backbone. It's not too sweet. Alcohol is well hidden, especially considering the ABV. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy and smooth. This one is definitely dangerously drinkable.

This is a really nice barrel-aged beer. It's bold, but balanced. Nice aromas and flavors. The craftsmanship is on point. It's really enjoyable and fun to drink. Well done. I believe this bottle is from mid-2018, so it has aged pretty well.

Was quite impressed with this one good carbonation and color. Smells quite sweet bourbon wood caramel and some dark fruit. Taste is a bit lacking just a touch of sweetness balances the bourbon and wood not too much fruit or vanilla. Body is excellent for 13% I got little or no burn goes down smooth!

Overall quite a good beer I could see enjoying a couple a sitting. If its still around I will probably grab a four pack!

I got a late start on this past Sunday's NBS (Week 774) & I did not finish up my DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure as planned. 8=( Further, I have promised that next week's NBS (Week 775) will be dedicated to the wonderful beers sent to me by @jkblr who seems to have a real handle on my drinking habits. CANsparency is key in these things! As a result, I am going to CANcentrate over the next few days on eradicating everything that would have CANbined to form the finale of the DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure. Sit down, strap in & hang on. It's gonna be a wild ride!

Speaking of wild, I am now shifting over to a couple of bottles!

From the Bottle: "Uncharted Waters"; "Dark, malty, roasty with hints of cocoa, vanilla, and dark fruits, this beast of a lager gets additional complexity from bourbon barrel aging."; "Barrel-aged Eisbock"; "Uncharted Waters explores the unique changes that happen to beer when exposed to wood. Each Beer showcases a robust style, carefully matched with a wood treatment to produce a range of complex flavors. Vintage dating encourages further exploration of the aging process. As much about the voyage as the destination, we hope you enjoy these beers in the spirit in which they were brewed."; "Fearless. Bold. Independent."

I had my Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) snifter at the ready & as soon as I Pop!ped the cap, I was ready to go. I went with a slow, steady C-Line pour that created a brief finger of foamy, fizzy, deep-tan/light-brown head that could not wait to return to wisps, becoming a mere skim on the surface. It was at this point that I realized that I had not reviewed many beers in this style so I refreshed myself using the site's updated Style Guide. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity and mahogany highlights. 8=O Nose had a definite fusel alcohol presence & the bourbon barrel aging was quite evident as the fumes wafted into my sinuses. 8=O Once more, the smell of coconut was what really stood out. Mouthfeel was medium, but I was hoping for a bit more of an assertive presence, frankly. The taste was mosdef coconut, toasty, tasty coconut!

I have liked coconut since I was a kid & I realized early on that I was a bit of an anomaly. I would seek out the coconut-filled treats in a sampler box of chocolates, I wanted a coconut birthday cake, I would have shredded coconut on my breakfast cereal. We even used coconut water as part of our distillation in Puerto Rico in 1993!

The best (?) thing about this beer was its smoothness. There was NO alcohol bite despite its boozy nose. It was slick & far too easy-drinking for my own good. I stood up, took a little break, checked on my (crock) Pot Roast & returned to my seat for more sips.

The relative sweetness was my next takeaway. I found myself licking my lips after each sip so as to capture a stickiness that seemed to coat my lips each time. I was also experiencing the emergence of toffee & molasses flavors beyond what the Bourbon barrel aging had wrought. At this point, I felt as though I were tasting the base beer, well into the contents of the now-decanted bottle.

Live review. Poured from the 32 oz. Crowler (yup, that is Crowler, not Growler) that I bought for $15.00 from World Wines & Liquor in Mentor, Ohio on 7 15 19. Just cracking it open now but since it is canned (yes, it is canned) the shelf life should be quite lengthy.

Appearance. Ruby or dark caramel body, dark but translucent under a quickly disappearing light brown head. Really, within 60 seconds the head was gone. Only body.

Smell. Bourbon Goodness over a strong malt sweetness, molasses like. I am an easy mark for Barrel Aged beers so that probably affects my scoring. Still, I think that it is a good smelling beer. Very intriguing.

Taste. Well, this is one huuuge beer. All of the malt sweetness that the smell suggested as well as the bourbon notes that are expected. I feel like I am a pirate on a ship somewhere, toasting another successful conquest. Really good!

Mouthfeel. Suitably thick and syrupy, taste lingers on my lips for at least 10 minutes after my last sip. Despite that it is not a "thick" beer, meaning that it is somewhat thin in the middle. Lingers a LOT longer than I would maybe have guessed. I like that.

Drinkabilty/Overall. A winner of a beer. I added this beer to BA so apparently no one else has reviewed it but I would recommend it if you can find it. The 32 oz. will be enough for me tonight but I could see getting this again if I see it for sale.

$ 13.00 (Including tax)/4-pack of 12 oz bottles ($ 0.271/oz) from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 6/14/19.
Possibly dated – “18149” stamped in box on back label. On shelf at point of sale. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 57 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Amber, clear.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque, slight effervescence. When held to the light, a definite garnet cast is noted.
Head – Small (Maximum 1.5 cm, aggressive center pour), tannish, initially medium density but fizzy and only lasts a few seconds, diminishing to a less than one mm crown fed by effervescence and no cap.
Lacing – None – not unexpected for a 13% ABV beer.
Aroma – 3 – VERY weak malt.
Flavor – 4.25 - Begins very sweet and malty with a slight fruitiness. No alcohol taste or aroma (13% ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide. The alcohol does produce a slight gastric warming.
Palate – 3.75 – Full, approaching syrupy, somewhat lively carbonation. It leaves my lips sticky.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – While the flavor is quite good and matches the palate well, the virtually non-existent aroma is detrimental to the overall enjoyment.

Pours a flat cola brown. Aroma has tons of sweet malt, mild wet wood & bourbon caramel. Palate lacks a distinct barrel characteristic - maybe some boozy heat & cheap well whisky floating around - but the base beer is fundamentally sound if unspectacular. A heaping amount of sweet malt, undernotes of rum raisin, dark fruit phenol / esters and cinnamon bread. Good, lacks depth.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This beast pours a muddeled
dark ruby tinged brown color with a decent head of off white foam
that settles fast to a thin ring. Nose of bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit,
and oak. Flavors follow the nose nicely with a more pronounced
bourbon note over a light layer of vanilla bean and mild cocoa
with breaded malts showing on the back with dark cherries and
a nice oaken flavor. Very nice mouth feel; medium body, smooth,
very warming, rich, low carbonation, and a medium dry finish.

Almost a barley wine and reminiscent of EKU 28 with some
bourbon barrel notes, this one is most excellent.

Cheers

Poured a ruby-tinted brown with minimal head and little lace ring. Aroma is slightly boozy and woody but mostly contains dark fruits like figs. Medium to heavy body, slightly sticky sweet from a hint of vanilla but mostly a figs and dates sweetness, touches of dark fruit, spice and at least boozy heat (really the abv is subdued), and a semblance of woody smoothness. Really good and heavy sweet beer worth sipping on.
