Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Siren Noire isn’t your father’s chocolate stout. We’ve used almost 3 pounds of Belgian coco nibs per barrel. We’ve aged it for five weeks in bourbon barrels with vanilla beans added. A mix of dark malts gives Siren Noire a well-rounded body that is decidedly chocolatey—but without being extraordinarily sweet. Brewers Gold hops contribute an earthy spiciness, with notes of black current.

A - Dark brown body (opaque), dark tan head.
S - Subtle notes of chocolate, not overpowering. Presence of light bourbon and vanilla are most forward and balanced.
T - Light as far as a stout goes, but likable. Taste lingers for a bit but never quite leaves.
M - Medium bodied, sticky open, medium amount of carbonation, lingering close.
O - Very nice brew that should be a crowd pleaser, but nothing stands out in particular. I always love searching for the 'perfect' beer that incorporates chocolate, and this was a nice attempt, but I wouldn't get it just for that. That being said, I'd get another bottle.

L: dark chocolate brown. Very little and fine finish head that dissipated quickly.

S: simple chocolate scent over a faint barreled oak scent.

T: This stands out on the taste as a very drinkable stout. Light and easily quaffable. Easy finish. Good to drink with a meal, not overly complex or challenging.

F: fairly fine and smooth.

O: good beer. Felt like it was a little expensive for what amounted to a good easy drink. Would have preferred a bit more character.

It is see through when poured but opaque in the glass. Creamy light brown head that leaves a spot or two of lacing. The aroma is filled with wet oak, vanilla and chocolate with a little bit of bourbon. The taste is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and oak. There is a decent amount of bitterness and booziness in the flavor. Mouthfeel is bit thin for an imperial stout. Pretty good beer but there is an an aftertaste that doesn't sit well with me.

2017
22 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

One and a half fingers of khaki foamy head covers a pour that is black and opaque. Moderate nose of oak, bourbon, roast malt and some alcohol.Tastes of bittersweet chocolate with only a light bourbon characteristic. Mostly dry it finishes tangy and bitter with some heat. Medium to full bodied and smooth with good, light to moderate carbonation.

A good BA stout that is a good value for 8 to 10 dollars for a 22 oz. bomber.

Appearance - Pour black with thin tan head that dissipates pretty quickly, spotty lacing.

Aroma - Nice bitter chocolate notes along with mild vanilla and a touch of bourbon as well. Roasted malts and oak along with just a touch of coffee.

Taste - The roasted malts and bitter chocolate are the stars of the flavors. There vanilla, oak and bourbon provide a great backdrop and the bourbon provides a little warmth.

Feel - High side of medium body wise, well carbonated little heat from the bourbon and a very smooth feel.

Overall - A really well done chocolate stout, the dark chocolate really stands out but does not overpower the other flavors.

I'm not a stout guy but I thought I would give this one a try (after trying the free sample they gave me) and was pleasantly surprised. It had a rich aroma with just the right amount of chocolate taste without the coffee aftertaste that usually keeps me away from the dark beers.

2016 bottle, opened and sampled on January 14, 2017.
This beer looks so good. It doesn't have quite the goopy viscosity of the highest-tier barrel-aged stouts, but it looks thick and rich, and it has a healthy, thick, foamy head that leaves bubbles all over the side of the glass.
The smell backs up the looks of the beer. It has a roasty malt smokiness combined with chocolate and a hint of bourbon. It makes me thick of roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
The flavor also has a nice balance of bitterness from the base stout with some semisweet chocolate and smokiness. I was hoping the flavor would be able to deliver after how good-looking and good-smelling this beer is, but it was not quite as rich.
Mouthfeel is also pretty darn good. It's sort of full and round and chewy, despite not being the densest of beers. I think the carbonation was well applied in this beer.
Overall, it's a solid value. I mean, with such a short aging time in the barrel, it is not on the same level as something like KBS, but for a $10 bomber that you can buy off the shelf in a random liquor store in the suburbs of Maryland, I would definitely recommend it.

Pours a thin (for style) dark brown and sits near black in the glass with a quarter finger of dark brown foam.

Big chocolate aroma right up front, to be expected, but gives way to aromas of sweet vanilla, roasted malt, and a touch of bourbon heat.

A wave of chocolate, vanilla, coffee-like roastiness, and a lick of bourbon washes over the palate. As this beer warms up, the chocolate is even more pronounced which seems impossible given the heavy hand of chocolate already.

Full-bodied, medium carbonation, roasty, sweet, smooth.

Overall, I was hoping for more bourbon and barrel character, but only 5 months in a bourbon barrel won't do the trick. This is a fantastic imperial chocolate stout, but needs more barrel character to really make it shine and stand out.
