HEAVY SEAS GOLD 5/25/16

Another in the new beer club shipment. We get Heavy Seas in my state but I have not had this one yet.

Best by Sept. 28 2016. This could be almost two months old already.

a: Clear yellow gold with a ring of foam which soon disappeared. No lacing.

s: Bare hint of bready malt.

t; Balanced! No particularly outstanding tastes but bready malt and light hops.

m: Light side of medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o: Highly drinkable beer drinkers' beer, brew gold in that there is none of the adjunct sweetness, just some quality, very easy drinking brew.

Look: Slightly hazed pale gold amber. I failed to pour vigorously enough to coax out a good head but the little head that was there was white and fragrant.

Smell: Subtle and mildly sweet aroma of barley and honey.

Taste: Very well executed balance of nuanced honey like flavors and a touch of grassy hops. There are some good orchard fruit notes as well that are reminiscent of Pacific Rose apples.

Feel: Medium body and slightly dry but overall well rounded.

Overall: Very good and drinkable. Clean and balanced, definitely a well brewed beer.

I first discovered Heavy Seas on tap at a bar that I frequented. I was startled to see it in six-packs at my local warehouse so I eventually stumbled across this crisp Ale. It has a puny 4.5% ABV, but its attributes are in its refreshing and subtle flavors instead of high alcohol content.

Look-It pours a clear golden yellow color that is very light and it mirrors the sunshine that went into growing the hops and malt grains. The head vanishes quickly leaving a thin film. The carbonation trails are few, but noticeable.

Smell-It is grains and light malt, but a bit muted. I pick up something like honey and clover, too.

Taste-It tastes of bubblegum, mango, wheat, and yeast. It also has a slight mellow caramel and honey flavor to these toasted malts. The citrusy hops are weak, but pleasant.

Mouthfeel-It feels like liquid gold and rays of sunshine. It is punctuated by golden waves of wheat and a mild sweetness from the caramel malts. There is a slight bite from the mild carbonation that lingers and the malts and hops leave a slight sticky coating on the tongue.

Overall-It goes down crisp and smooth with a clean finish to the flavors. I was expecting something watery and boring, but was only mildly surprised to get a well-balanced malt/hop combination that had enough character to make it interesting and the flavors were just muted enough to make the beer believable and down-to-earth. I wouldn’t get a six pack of this, but if I saw it at a party, I might warm up with a crisp bottle of this Ale.

It's not bad but not something i would drink everyday. I think someone mentioned budweiser well i'm going to mention coors light. I think the gold could be substituted for piss. Of course it is a heavy seas beer and we all know what the seas are full of. It may be a good beer for drinking while you fish IMO.
