Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
In the most worthy of pumpkin patches and during the silence of the midnight hour, the Greater Pumpkin raises up and pours a rich deep and burnished orange color. Heady aromas of bourbon, cinnamon, ginger, allspice and clove linger seductively over the thick white head of this tremendous brew. Its love at first sip as the full malt body, dominated by British crystal malt, brown sugar and pumpkin, slowly washes over your tongue. Bourbon barrel aging rounds out the flavors with notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Pairs well with crisp autumn weather, crunchy fallen leaves, and the knowledge that your kids will be asleep soon so you can raid their Halloween candy bags.

Wanted to revisit this one since years ago I found it a total bourbon bomb. For 5 bucks a bomber its not much of a gamble.
Looks quite hazy deep brown with just a 1/4 inch of tinted foam. Smell is very inviting with some caramel sweetness and mild spices nutmeg and cinnamon with mild wood but not getting the bourbon bomb I described in the smell in prior review. Taste is fairly smooth but still run of the mill with some sweetness, fadded spices and just some barrel not really any bourbon to speak of. Body is quite lively which may be the best part of this beer since it goes down quite easy.

Overall its much better than I remember and kind of wish I had it fresh since the barrel might have had more flavor or at least the spices would have been stronger. Still as is its quite easy to quaff back and a steal at just 5 bucks for the bomber.

Edit: Had to increase the review a bit since I found out this is a 2015 bottle which explains why the bourbon burn must had faded a bit.

L - opaque burnt orange/rust with a medium tan head that doesn't really stick around but leaves behind a little bit of lacing.
S - nice pumpkin spice aromas with your typical cinnamon, pumpkin, nutmeg, ginger, allspice. A slight hint of sweet bourbon - but you really have to look for it. The smell isn't as strong as other pumpkin ales, but it's still a nice smell.
T - Follows the nose. Up front there's a lot of pumpkin spice flavors with pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, allspice. On the back end you get some warming notes of alcohol and the sweetness from the bourbon and some hints of vanilla but the vanilla really isn't all the present. A sweet malt backbone holds everything together.
F - on the fuller side of medium - but not quite full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Smooth.
O - This is a really solid pumpkin ale. Solid Fall pumpkin flavors with a nice addition of bourbon and alcohol warmth on the back end - is it the best in the pumpkin ale category? No but it's definitely one of the better ones; it's definitely worth a try.

24 oz bottle poured into glass.
Look: orange, copper with minimal white head.
Smell: bourbon, vanilla, pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Taste: pumpkin, cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon, and oak, the bourbon stands out to me, good pumpkin.
Feel: a little burn to the bourbon, and Abv.
Overall: I always buy this beer when I see it. Excellent beer

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy amber with medium to heavy bubbles with a slight off-white head (Orange tinted) rising low maybe a notch below half a finger's length.

Smell: bland whiskey scent which comes off a bit sour oranges.

Taste: Strong bourbon over powers the pumpkin. A bit spicy like cinnamon and oranges. Comes off a bit sweet which feels like a dessert which might not be able to finish.

Mouth: Sticky, full bodied but medium carbonation at best which dissipates a bit after the sip. Sour finish at the end.

Overall: Good brew but wouldn't hunt the world looking for it. Feels good in the beginning but it's a different beer five minutes later. Salud!
