Pours a dark, beautiful black with a mid-sized head. The head isn't huge, but it's thick, creamy, and has a distinct chocolate taste.

The beer has a dark, rich scent. It smells rich, but not sweet.

The mouthfeel is watery at first, but it thickens almost immediately after hitting the palate.

The beer has an incredible taste, sweet with strong dark chocolate and burnt coffee flavors.

Overall, a fantastic and complex stout. Easily one of the best beers, and absolutely the best milk stout, I've ever had.

Primo!!! I'm glad they're making this in the U.S. now...As good as any I've tried. This and Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout are my 2 all-time favorites. Beer doesn't get any better.

Drinking whilst typee.

A: Dark dark brown with a nice three finger head. Dissipates down to a nice sheen. Looks just about perfect.

S: Espresso with sweet cream smell, dark chocolate.

T: Awesome coffee bitterness balanced with malts and hops. Comes off almost perfectly bittersweet yumminess. This is the best stout I've had thus far dudes.

M: Perfect full bodiness.

D: This complex beer has so much going on, yet it remains very mild and refreshing. A definite A+!

Chocolate colored head and completely opaque black body.

Huge chocolate and cocobutter aroma.

Very long noble, though not intense bitterness. Hugely dominating chocolate flavor. coffee and slightly tabacco undercurrent, especially on the finish. This is roasted perfection. Just as good as I remember my first one, eight years ago.

Fine bubbles and scrumptious delicate body.

Not very sweet, when compared to the daffy sweetness fo the belgians, considering this is a sweet stout.

What a surprise at the packy today...I came across this offering on the shelf and saw triple stout and said...what the heck...what a find!
Black color...great head...oustanding malt and coffee smells, BUT no bitterness..smooth, taste was extremely well-rounded and had smoke and coffee flavors. Mouthfeel was great, well-rounded slightly chewy..just right. Extremely drinkable. As close to a 5.0 as they come.

Very dark, black color. Low carbonation. Initial pour, the head is thick and tan, which does not last long. The aroma is sweet, hoppy, slightly burnt, and mossy. Delicious sweet, malty, coffee and bittter-chocolate flavor. Chewy, smooth, thick and creamy. An excellent stout. My first choice as my breakfast stout because of the taste and the low alcohol content (I read that it's only 3.75%). Always stocked in my frig. Enjoy. Cheers.

Pours like used motor oil and is nearly as black only with garnet highlights where the light tries to peak through. Even with the attempt of a moderately gentle pour, it still managed to make a 2-1/2 finger layer of tan dense foam. Beautiful! It has a bold roasty malt aroma with underlying bitter chocolate and coffee. Mouthwatering! The taste is a sweet cocoa and bitter chocolate with a hint of coffee, hops, and tapers to a sweet chocolate milk finish. Unreal! This is a medium to heavy bodied brew that is like silk. Classic! I believe despite it's rich character, I could flow through these like the wind. Wow! Did I mention that this was good! Cheers!

Appearance: Ever seen 30-weight? It's about like that. Even before I started really expanding my horizons, I was partial to darker brews. The subjectivity of such a system obviously will allow a beer like this to appeal greatly to some, and to be average or worse to others. That being said, this one's right up my alley.

No head formed on the pour, I didn't aggressively try to make one occur. The aroma almost smells like warm chocolate pudding or hot fudge. Awesome.

Very smooth on the palate, such is the nature of a cream stout. Just enough carbonation to remind you that beer is more than deeply roasted chocolate malt, but in this case just barely. A very interesting aftertaste - charcoal with a greenish, woodsy part I can't quite identify.

What makes this so drinkable to me is that the flavor is so powerfully deep that after 3 or 4 you're gonna still be able to enjoy and taste it quite well. That's only an opinion, I should test that hypothesis to be sure. Um, be right back... :-)

What an incredible stout! After hearing about this one for a while i picked up a 6 pack.
Appearance- Black as night with a light brown hazelnut colored head, nice and thick if poured right. There are beautiful burgundy tints with light passing through.
Smell- So appetizing. Rich mocha smell with caramel and toast notes. Pretty sweet but nicely burnt as well. I would wear this as cologne if i could.
Taste- After reading alot of reviews i had an idea of what this would taste like. I was wrong, it was so much better than what i imagined. Rich espresso flavors ride in strong and caramel and chocolate smooth out the flavor with a creamy milk feel. The bitterness in the back is clean and light. The alcohol is pretty much hidden under all the richness.
Mouthfeel- Full mouthfeel, very rich and creamy.
I could drink this beer all night long. One calls for another and so on. Excellent stout.

I love this beer, it's been one of my favorites ever since I joined the dark side (meaning I don't drink anymore of that piss colored macro stuff). It pours black as night with a orangish brown head that changes to a brownish yellow upon settling. Oh and the smell of this beer, yummy. I mean, it combines a sweet malty aroma with those lovely chocolate undertones, I wish they had this scent available at the carwash. The beer drinks smooth, with a coffee chocolate taste. The roasted malt flavor hangs around after each drink. It is a little sweet but the flavor of this beer is dynamic in that it changes from the beginning of the sip till after the swallow. Even hints of some bitterness. The is a standard in my favorites.

Pours thick and black with only a thin head at first that is quite deceptive. I thought that I was pouring too gently due to the thin head and poured the last third of the beer more aggressively to develop a good head. However, the head continued to slowly grow and grow into a tremendous creamy and rocky brown head well after I had finished pouring and damn near overflowed my glass! Retention is great and the head coats the glass as you drink. Nose is sweet milk chocolate with notes of fresh brewed coffee and caramel. The aroma definitely lets you know that you’re in for a real treat! Smooth and oh so creamy in the mouth with a nice full body. Taste is every bit as good as the aroma leads you to believe with flavors of milk chocolate, coffee ice-cream, roasted malts, and chewy toffee. Some fruity notes are also present as well as a trace of hop bitterness. One of the finest stouts I have ever sampled.

Black. Black as night. Hold it up to the light, and it's still black. Perhaps a bit of crimson around the edges, but other than that, black. Good two fingers of thick, creamy, brown head, reminds me of the color of nougat. Head is pretty much gone now, but there's a bit of lacing on the sides of the glass, and a nice cloud of foam covering the surface of the beer. Sweet smells of coffee, chocolate and cream. Perhaps a bit of a roasted aroma tucked away in there, as well.

Wonderful roasted coffee flavor, hints of chocolate and caramel mixed in. A bit of a hop bite to wrap it up, and a nice, lingering roasted aftertaste. Thick and creamy in the mouth, very rich texture.

An excellent, wonderful beer. The only downfall might be that I suspect it's a little too thick and intense to be as drinkable as a lighter beer. One of these is probably enough for a night, but would make an excellent accompanyment to a chocolate desert.

This brew pours a motor oil black color. The head is two-fingers in height, brown in color, and creamy in texture. The aroma is of toffee, butter, graham crackers, and has a hint of coffee. The taste is amazing. Everything from the aroma is present with the addition of chocolate in the finish. The mouthfeel is one of the best that I have encountered from a bottled beer. Medium-full bodied with low carbonation, but oh so smooth and creamy. Overall, this is one of the best stouts I have ever tasted, and I am kicking myself for not having tried it sooner.

Pours syrupy black with a finger or two of creamy tan head. Looks good.

Sweet dark malts, caremel, dark fruits, dates, sweet coffee, smells amazing. Alcohol distracts a bit.

Tastes even better than it smells. Sweetness dominates, caramel, roasted coffee, chocolate. Milky sweet, some lactose in there for sure. So, so, so good.

Creamy and smooth. Carbonation enhances and balances. Sweetness is intense but not overwhelming, slight hop bitterness helps to balance.

This is my favorite milk stout, I could drink these all day and never get sick of them. And at 5.99 a six pack at Trader Joes, I'm in hog heaven.

Rich black mud fills the glass and is adorned with a beige haed. Fluffy head gives way to some sticky lace.

Smells of roasted barley and chocolate. Not much hop aroma but very inviting.

Exceptional taste that is neither too bitter or sweet. Very nice barley flavor in contrast with the chocolate malt essence. Very creamy and smooth as it goes down, but given the rich flavor I thought it would be a bit thicker.

At 4.9% ABV this would be an excellent session brew for those who like stouts and a very good example of a sweet stout.

Mackeson's Tripple XXX Stout is a sweet Milk Stout and my favorite beer, even though I have not been able to purchase one for the past (i am guessing) 6 - 7 years. Since that time they have not sold the beer in MA and the distribution is very, very limited. I have heard about cases being shipped for $60 with the shipping cost.

I first tasted this beer in the Sunset Grille in Boston.

A. - Dark good head

S. - Sweet

T - Sweet dark stout

O - Excellent

Absolutely black!!! The darkest pour I've ever seen. Nice inch thick dark tan head that lingers, but leaves a nice lace as it settles.

Has a peat moss characteristic to it w/ hot cocoa/coffee aromas.

Absolutely deliscious!!! Extremely smooth mouthfeel w/ a creamed coffee flavor. The milky character definitely shines through.

Note: This has become one of my favorite beers of all time. If all other beer production in the world ceased but this one, I wouldn't be that upset.

This is a wonderful beer, rich in flavour and body.

Extremely dark brown-black, it has a smallish, dense, creamy brown head that shrinks slowly and leaves some fairly good lace.

The aroma is rich blackstrap molasses, toast, chocolate, and a hint of coffee.

The taste is full and mostly sweet. It has a lot of rich, creamy, caramelly chocolate, wheat bread, with a hints of licorice and coffee, especially in the finish. There is a light bitterness near the finish. The palate is thick, full, and creamy, but lively.

Pours out as black as the devil's soul. The head is a dark brown also and settles out pretty quick. This is where looks can be deceiving. The taste is awesome - I now have a new favorite stout. Definite notes of coffee in the flavor. Smooth and very clean on the palate. This should be a mandatory try for any serious BA.

I honestly knew nothing of this beer or what to expect from it when I included it in a mixed six-pack. As soon as a poured it and observed the dark color and coffee/chocolate aroma I knew I was going to enjoy it. This beer has a ton of flavor - coffee, chocolatey, and malty - yet it is balanced well and not overpowering. I would suggest drinking this after a meal and saving it for your last beer of the night - I drank a Celebrator (also a great beer) after this and could barely even taste it! Excellent beer.

This is an excellent stout and seems to taste the same as the original brewed in London. Thick creamy head, almost black, smooth sweet/roasted flavor, good mix of hops.

Wow- what a surprise. This great brew is exactly what I look for in a stout- perfectly balanced flavor, creamy body and drinkability. It poured a dark muddy brown with a great looking tan head. Smells were of roasted malts, caramel, and creamed coffee. The flavors rolled off my tongue- slightly sweet malts and an amazing roasted coffee flavor, with a sweet/sour buttermilk finish. Nice rounding out with some hops on the back-end. Best milk stout in a bottle by far. Smooth and velvety mouthfeel, and not heavy at all. Highly recommended.

Just enjoyed one of these black beauts with a spiced pork chop and middle eastern spaghetti squash. Offsets and compliments wonderfully. It has been about 2 years since my last Mackeson. It has been too long...

A= Pours from the bottle like French-press coffee: black, sludgey appearance. Settles into an imperial glass with a burnt toffee, mocha-latté foam that dissipates with each sip (probably the meal).

S= Smells sweet and murky, like a day old cup of sweetened java, or a rum-cake.

T= I declare this beer to be chocolate milk for adults. No typical burnt coffee or abrasive bitterness. Some hop bitterness is faintly present, mostly as it glides off the tongue. To me, the most pleasing part of this beer is how complex and beautiful the flavors are in this beer, like a semi-sweet dark chocolate milk, literally. If my eyes were closed you would be hard-pressed to convince me it was beer. Masterpiece.

M= Carbonation is a little much, but is to be expected with the lactose sugar. The bubbles are tiny and plentiful, are not biting, more sudsy in the mouth. Somewhat like a mouthwash foam, only delicious beer.

D=Goes down with ease. Does not make the eyes water or the throat clog. This beer has an extremely silky texture one could expect from a milk stout. Not thick or dry like an oyster, this one is like satin sheets of semi-sweet that slide down the gullet like chocolate milk.

This was by far the sweetest beer that I have ever had. Almost tasted soda sweet.

Poured a dark brown/black with garnet around the edges. The head was rocky and brownish and laced the glass on the way down. The smell was lighter than some stouts in that I did not immediately detect coffee but it was there, just not as obvious. The taste was exceptional!! I have never had a beer like this. It was sweet like a shake and almost seemed to coat the mouth the same. The mouthfeel was like velvet. I could taste it almost an hour later.

The first one went down incredibly easy but it was so sweet I don't think I could have had too many more.

Edited 5/18/2006:

Decided to edit this one rather that posting a new review. Lot's of fruit in the aroma and flavor. Kind of like dark preserved fruits. Still the most excellent beer I have tried!
