The vibe of this place is that of a restaurant, because it is 95% restaurant and 5% bar. The bar area is quite small, but if you go off peak you can get a seat and it is great. Service is excellent. Both bartenders and waitstaff are knowledgeable and helpful about food and drinks. They seem to have it down about how much to check in on customers. The selection is spectacular. The bottle list is about as complete as you can get. It's hard to believe they even have storage space for everything. The tap list is also awesome and always rotating. The beer menu even keeps itself updated and accurate. Food at the bar is quite good pub fare. The restaurant itself is very good.
The most unusual part about the Spinnerstown is its location. It is right off the turnpike, but otherwise, literally in the middle of nowhere. Its fancy beer & food are out of place for the area it is in. It makes absolutely no sense, but it works and it works well. I've never seen advertising for it, yet it seems to be a destination.

I honestly came here because they have a great selection of craft beers! Couldn't give a food rating because I didn't eat there. They are pretty much my main source for Avery,Russian River and other beer brands that I cannot get in Pittsburgh. I was able to purchase RR Consecration, Supplication, Redemption and Temptation - all in 12.7oz bottles. The only downside is pricing...I know these beers are rare and hard to come by on the East Coast, which I totally understand why the pricing is high. I bit the bullet purchasing those RR bottles because how often do you get to try those in PA? Not very often. Another beer that I was eager to try was Avery's Uncle Jacob's Stout, but I just couldn't justify spending $20 on a 12oz bottle, RR was pricey too. But all in all, if you want great selection, Spinnerstown Hotel is where to get craft beer if you are in Eastern PA. Friendly service and a great atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to grab some food and some more great craft brews. Cheers!

Out of the way but worth the drive: this place probably has the best selection of bottles I've seen in the Lehigh Valley. Lost Abbey Red Poppy, Deschutes Mirror Mirror...you name it. The staff seems knowledgeable and friendly.

Nice gem tucked away just outside Quakertown and not too far from the turnpike entrance. Atmosphere is slightly more upscale. Plenty of table seating (along with a deck area), but the bar is somewhat on the smaller side. If entering from the rear of the building (where the parking lot it), you have to walk through the restaurant and past the bar to get to the hostess station. They might have someone by the back door during the busier hours but I can't recall. The place can get very crowded during peak meal times, but if you're waiting there's a decently sized waiting area.
The food menu has a nice range, everything from nicer pub fare to finer plates, and I've never had trouble picking something out. Staff is very friendly and helpful with answering questions or making suggestions.
The tap list is very good, and a bit surprising since the place is a bit out of the way. They have some good connections, and some stuff that never makes it to PA has been on in the past. The bartenders are knowledgeable about what they're pouring and willing to give out samples if you're uncertain about what something is. Bottle list is fairly impressive as well. The to-go beer area has a great selection, and in the past has included stuff like Cantillon Classic Gueuze. Prices are a bit higher for some of the stuff, but you can find some gems. Owner knows his beer and I've had some nice discussions with him.
Overall, I wish I lived a bit closer so I could stop in regularly. The food is good, beer selection is outstanding, and the staff is some of the best I've experienced. Definitely worth a stop, I wish more places were like this one!

We ate dinner here on a Saturday night and had drinks.

The atmosphere is a little formal, a little nicer than a casual restaurant. Despite this place being in a more rural area, the beer selection is great. Nice tap list, they do flights, and they also have a big bottle list as well. Food was good, and service was as well.

Great beer bar stashed away outside of quakertown. Not a big bar area(more taps than stools) but plenty of resteraunt seating.
Tap selection is top notch and are rotated regulary. Crazy list of bottles that last time i was in had some rare hair of the dog barrell aged brews.
The staff is friendly and knowledgable, and the food was excellent. The owner john was super friendly and had a great conversation about belgians and sam adams utopias.
Overall i really enjoyed my visits to the spinnerstown hotel and will be making many more in the future.

I had been hearing about this place up in the middle of nowhere, some philly exburb that had great beer, food, atmosphere- had it in my head to check it out as I occassionally get to Qtown. finally about 3 years later the occasion presents itself, with the wife noless who has a decent beer palate but prefers wine.... off the Quakertown exit of the turnpike, where is spinnerstown, the tollbooth collector does not know, all I know is drive the other way from Qtown and its close by, mile or so down, said wife spots Spinnerstown Road, gee maybe this is the way and sure enough 1.5 miles down on the right there she be-
Old hotel spiffed up, big big place and this being a Saturday night, packed- parking lot overflowm easily 50+ cars, still we sought and came so we walk in and the hotess seats us right away, tells us two parties going on one upstairs in the second floor dining room and one on the second floor deck, bar downstairs is racous with Phillies fervor, we sit in quite the genteel dining room with several aged souls this being on the early side of the dinner rush. they don't look like beer drinkers, which might be a good sign for the food. The dining room reminds me of the General Lafayette Inn circa 2000 the good ole days before the slow decline, so and upscale establishment who chooses the beer route...
And the beer- awesome, awesome list, put together by someone in the know, 25 taps all premium hard to find micros( can we say shangy's connection?) +++200+ bottles. A great list, and A+ list that gives any Philly establishment, Monks included a run for their money, and speaking of money Philly prices to boot which is unfortunate but this is Bucks county PA... I had the beer flight special which they do every Saturday- Pumpkin to my hearts content- Pumking, Weyerbacher, Smuttnose, and roy Pitz.. 4 6oz pours for 10 smackaroos... Wife had a belgian sour....
The food- great- pork tenderloin with sweet potatot gnocchi in a wild mushroom walnut sauce, and the wife some of the best crabby crab cakes we have had ever in philly, great salad and homemade bread with the entrees... wonderful food to complement all the great beer.
Overall this place far exceeded any expectations we had. This is a beer destination, my vote for best secret beer rendevous in the
philly area. The only thing that was not good was the espresso to cap the evening lousy. skip any fancy coffee and have another imperial stout on the nitro pour. A great place. To close also use great glassware, the waitress who look like a Jersey housewife was super friendly and impressed me with both significant beer knowledge and articulate recommendations. also the right amount of service with not being pushy. also, a great wine by the glass list thoughtly put together. A winner for a nice meal with what appears to be a lively bar scene to boot. Seek this place out you wont be disappointed.

First, how to find this place. If you are a tourist, like me, and on rte476 there is no signage for Spinnerstown, at least I did not see it. The proper exit is Quakertown.
I really liked this pub, the atmosphere is so comfortable and the beer selection especially bottles is huge. I had the Left Hand ESB on tap and the Oskar Blues Scotch Ale in the bottle. This was the first time for both of these beers for me. I really wanted to eat here but I was moving on to Bethlehem.
On my trip east of the 10 or so pubs I visited this would be my favorite.

I was informed of the Spinnerstown Hotel a few years ago and since then I'd been there several times. There was a guy I was talking with at the Bookstore Speakeasy one night who gave me the heads up about this place. He mentioned about how great their beer selections were and I had to check it out.

I went to the website and looked over the bottle list and what they had on tap. It was most impressive. The bottled list is massive and very well organized. The tap selections are really good too most of the time. They've just had the Voodoo Cowbell on Nitro, Bell's Hopslam & many more. They even get a batch of Pliny the Elder from time to time. The Spinnerstown knows good beer and loves to share the knowledge of it with their customers.

The service is pretty awesome there, especially Jack the bartender. He's a really cool dude and very intelligent on just about any topic. The pub area is very nice and the dinning area is ever nicer. The food is damn good too. Overall this is a great bar and a great place to eat. Highly enjoyable.

Stopped in here this past weekend on 2/19/11 to kill some time before meeting with some friends. The place has a very "at home" atmosphere to it. The bar isnt very big, but cozy. Stained wood ceilings, walls, and the bar itself with mirrors on the back bar wall. The dining room area is pretty big with lots of tables. Whats nice is a lot of times on the weekend they have bands play here. The hometown hero is The Craig Thatcher Band. Check them out!

The place is very clean and well kept. As I said it has that "at home" feeling to it but everyone in there from the owner to the bartender was very professional, but not in that stuck up way.

The service was good from both the bartender and the owner. The bartender was running back and forth behind the bar, though it is small it was full and he still managed to make conversation with each person there. The owner came out and was talkin with the guy next to me saying how they were going to do an all Stone firkin event soon. Me not knowing what Firkin was chimed in the conversation and the owner actually invited me behind the bar and showed me one of the firkin kegs beneath the counter.

Their selection is truly world class, at least IMO. They have about 8 different taps running with 6 of them being either craft or imports, and their draft list is constantly rotating. They also have growlers you can purchase and refill. The bottle list they have though makes for some good reading. Its about 10 pages or so in length, each selection written in about size 8 font.

This place seems to be all about the beer but the food from what I hear is good also. My review here may need some editing in the future as I've only ever had appetizers and soups from here, but they do serve entrees.

The biggest nit pick I have with here is that it is a little expensive. Their bottle list is really impressive but I've seen some of the bottles in there at other places for 3-5$ cheaper. All in all a great place to stop and have a few really excellent brews.

Made the trip out after a friend had told me of a Russian River tasting event with Pliny the Elder on tap (the only beer they wouldn't fill a growler with)!

Nice local place in a sleepy little town. Beer selection is very good, with flights of four brews available for tasting - at a reasonable price. There were between 10 and 15 beers on tap and ranged in style covering just about all preferences.

The staff was great. Very pleasent and knowledgeable, and attentive to the needs of the patrons. The owner made his rounds and stopped by to make sure that your needs were being met.

The menu was incredible, offering simple pub food to more exotic dishes. Since we were there for the beer, we stuck with basics: wings, pub fries, sandwiches - all very good. Prices were very reasonable.

Their bottle selection is also very good. This is a nice little spot of the beaten path.

Made a pilgrimage to this place with my brother and a friend after hearing about it from my friend at Weyerbacher Brewery. Really nice bar with a not huge but very nice tap selection including one cask. Bottle selection is as good as I have seen in PA. Nice offerings from Cigar City, Russian River and a ton of imports. Hal behind the bar was very prompt and polite and not only knew a ton about beer but was very helpful in offering suggestions. If I had more money, I would visit this place on a daily basis. If you like beer and live in southeastern PA, you need to find this place. Thanks again Hal.

Went here for the 1st time after knowing about this place for years. Very short notes because im tired. I'll revise

A- A very nice open clean space with a bar area, a seating area and a outside patio, quite nice, warm and cozy. Somebody was singing and playing acoustic guitar on this certain night, relaxing.

Q- I had a sculpin on tap and a sculpin on cask side by side, what more do you need to know. Lines are clean and all that as is the building and bathroom and outside. Whoomp, up there!

S- Service could of been a little faster but it was not overly bad, just slow. Maybe because I was wearing a miller light shirt is why they shunned me. (Reminder to self, dont wear BMC shirt's in beer bars, although i was served a isabelle proximus in another bar with this same exact shirt so it goes both ways)

S- Not the bangingnest of the banging beer lists out there, but a nice list. I had sculpin on cask so that's a major plus. The bottle menu is big, extensive, huge and pricy. Cherry Adam From The Wood anyone.

F- I had a ostrich cheesesteak, I liked it, this place knows how to stretch out their ingredients and make a lot of different dishes out of them. A big food menu, pricy though.

Well, I will be returning here, I quite liked it.

If you are really into beer you would be an idiot not to swing into the spinnerstown hotel. Owned by the same family for I forget how long (sorry john) the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is extensive from Miller to Russian River to a huge list of imports. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in an old hotel sipping on some of the best beer. Aside from that the beer is served the right way. A nice clean glass and the beer being pushed by the right CO2/N2 blend (not 25/75 as most think). John knows his beer and how to serve it. Thanks for the couple of visits over this week and sorry for jumping on BA to write you up when I got home, although I do in the most positive light!

So much has been written about Spinnerstown Hotel, I can only add to the accolades.

We first went to Spinnerstown for a "Meet the Brewer" monthly event and were pleased to discover Oskar Blues brewery. But that was just the start...

Their beer selection is superior for a locale not in the middle of a city. There are generally a dozen beers on tap and they cover the range from exotic American blends like Allagash and Dogfishhead to regular offerings of Chimay, Framboise, and even Miller for your friends who just want "a beer" with nothing fancy.

The wait staff staff is knowledgeable and friendly. As are most of the patrons. There is always an eclectic bunch here from young "hipsters" into fancy beer to some old timers who have been frequenting the place for 40 years. John, the owner is both friendly and a veritable guru in terms of beer knowledge. His manager and chef are top notch. They have excellent meal choices from sandwiches and appetizers at reasonable prices to much more gourmet offerings for full dinners.

We've since made it to nearly every monthly Brewer's Night and many other events such as the Firkin Fest, an imported holiday beer tasting, and a more formal sit down beer-food pairing.

The place itself is rich with local and (inter)national history in its beer decor and homey, inviting atmosphere.

They also have a huge aged and fresh bottle selection at reasonable prices. They are happy to accommodate unique tastes and custom orders.

This is a real gem; right off the turnpike outside of Quakertown.

Located only a mile away from Exit 44 (Quakertown) off the NE extension of the PA turnpike, sits this little beer bar. Don't let the name confuse you. It's not a hotel and it hasn't been a hotel since the early 20 century. It's now one of the best beer bars in the Philly area. After you park your car on the right side of the building, you're going to walk through a jungle of tall weeds and plants (depending on the season) to get to the front door. When you you'll walk in, you'll be immediately be greeted by the hostess in a window that's cut into stone. To the right of the front door is the dinning room and to the left is a small hallway leading to the bar area. As many times that I've been here, I've never seen what the dinning room looks like. So I have no idea what the dinning room looks lie or how big it is. I can however tell you what the bar area looks like. The bar area has a small wooden bar that can seat about 10+ people and a dinning room off to the side. I remember seeing TV's over the bar, but there's at least 3 flatscreens in the dinning room in front of the bar. Let's just say that it's a very cozy place in a very cozy town.

I could go in depth about the food and service, but you're more than likely reading this review for one thing, the beer selection. In case you're reading this for pure information about the place, the servers know their beers and in case they don't, they know where to find the answer. As for the food, it's all good and they offer appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, cheese steaks, and entrees. The entrees can get pretty high, but most of the food prices are average for the area.

Now it's time for the beer selection! When I was sitting in the dinning room off the bar area, I got a real good look at their large chalkboard tap list. For their bottled selection, there was a beer menu on the table. The last time I was there, the tap list consisted of Chimay Triple, Lindeman's Peche, Sam Adams Summer, Leinekugel Amber, Stone 13th, La Trappe Is'dior, Victory ESB, Manayunk Krooks Mill Pale Ale, Southern Tier Chocklat, Blue Point Imperial Pilsner, Roy Pitz Watermelon Lager, and Sly Fox's O'Riley Stout. In case they don't have anything on tap you might want, their bottled selection consists of beers from Bell's, Allagash, Port Brewing, DFH, Green Flash, Middle Ages, North Coast, Founders, Victory, Southampton, Left Hand, Ithaca, Avery, Ommegang, Beer Valley, Stone, Troegs, River Horse, Lagunitas, Oskar Blues, Weyerbacher, and Sierra Nevada. To think, that;s just their domestic crafts. For their imports, they have the likes of Rochefort, Young's, Nogone, Peche, Sam Smith, Unibroue, Franziskaner, Cantillon, Duchess, Deus, Orval, and Pannepot. As you can probably tell, they have a very diverse selection of craft beers.

In case you're driving along the NE extension of the PA turnpike and you're in the mood for a good craft beer, then you should go the extra mile and visit the Spinnerstown Hotel. With a beer selection like this, you might wish that this was a hotel because you might need to sleep off all the beer you could have.

I was turned on to The Spinnerstown Hotel by a beer snob friend (BA user: strictly4DK). I have been several times and there is always something new and exciting on tap. The bottle selection is also outstanding. The atmosphere is very clean, cozy and inviting and the service is exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. I have only eaten here once (sausage sampler = very tasty), however, so I can't really say how the food is. If it's anything like the rest of the place, I would say "bon appetit!"

This place is ridiculously easy to get to from the PA turnpike. Well under a mile form the exit. Upon entering, you are greeted with about 15 taps, just about all of which are quality offerings. I just ducked in for a quick pint. I ordered a Ballast Point Big Eye IPA. Very fresh and tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Did not get a chance to try the food, but from what I saw, it looked great (eat with your eyes first). Worth a stop if you find yourself anywhere near the area or if you are just passing by the Quakertown exit on the pike.

Great old place barely 1 mile off the NE Extension. My friends and I stopped there on our way to the MusikFest and spent about 2 hours sitting out on their covered deck. Really nice atmosphere, relaxing and well decorated. The food was great and the beer selection was even better. Not only did they have some great local breweries represented (like Weyerbacher, Troegs, Victory, etc...)but they had a really nice list of imports (200+) all categorized. In fact, they even had several aged brews - my friends and I tried a Unibroue 15 (25th Anniversary), Rogue and Stone. They had a very solid selection of Belgian beers as well which we didn't have time to dig into. I would reccomend this place as a nice stop traveling to/from Philadelphia to/from Allentown area.

I had to drive over an hour once a week after work for 8 weeks to get to this place. I was taking a BJCP study session class and it was held here. After class (or sometimes before) I would have a beer at the bar or a quick bite to eat. The bar staff were some of the friendliest and most knowledgable I've ever seen. Matt, Jack and Hal. Also the owner, John would come out and talk to the bar patrons about beer and the recent tap selections. Just an overall very friendly vibe. The only drawback to the atmosphere was the smoke. I'm used to bars in New Jersey where you can't smoke and to have a bar with so many great beers to try and someone next to you blowing smoke in your face is kind of a bummer.
Every time I came in they had at least one new handle. Some of the beers they had over the 8 week period that I visited were: Middle Ages Wailing Wench, Allagash Cran Cru, Petrus Winter, Brooklyn Cuvee De Chouffe, Bethlehem Brewworks Hop Explosion, Sly Fox Raspberry Wheat, Koenigshaven, Appalachian Grinnin' Grizzly, North Coast Old Rasputin, Magic Hat Vanilla porter and Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA. That's quite a rotation!

The waitresses are also really cute and friendly. As far as the food goes it was pretty good. My favorite was actually the Irish onion soup mixed with Guiness and Jamieson.

Overall just a great place if you can deal with the smoke. If they don't ban smoking in the bar I may just have to take up the habit.

Went here after being in the area and had nothing else to do. Although I have known of this place for some time, I just never actually ventured in, until now....

Atmosphere and quality were great, nice open bar area, no drunks, great place to sit and enjoy a finely crafted ale.

On tap was a great selection, although to myself, it didn't knock my socks off. But then again, I'm a spoiled little brat being as I will travel hours just to sit at a bar with something on tap I have never had.

On tap of mention, they had Young's Winter Warmer, Urthel Hop-It, Middle Ages Wailing Wench, and some locals, ABC, River Horse, DFH, and some middle of the road beers.

Overall, I liked the place except for the fact that the Urthel Hop-It was $7.50 for a tulip glass, but keep in mind, the price didn't stop me from having two of them. Good place, but be prepared to plop down some money like it was weighted with lead.

I remember Big Jim introducing us to the owner at a Weyerbacher open house last January or so. Bottled selection sounded promising but the taps kind of iffy. A year and change later, word on the site is that things have improved vastly there. So, over the (Delaware) River and through Bucks County, to the Spinnertown Hotel we go...
Funny damn thing. We park and just as we get to the front door, a rooster calls out to Randy "IR-IR-IR-IR-IR!!!" (That'd be "cock-a-doodle-doo" for you folks who don't talk fowl). We were like, "Whaaat?!?!?!" Anyway, down the little corridor to the rear, a bar and seating area. It's a 10 seat straight bar with a mirrored bar back and boards listing the specials and employee beer picks. A hanging glass rack, flatscreen on the far wall and a smaller TV above the corner of the bar, strung red Xmas lighting and colored glass drop lamp lighting over the bar. The attached dining area is very nicely done, walls slat wood lowers, green wallpaper and burgundy painter uppers, hardwood and carpeted floors, polished wood ceilings, raised in the center of the room, drop lamps, spots and track lighting, marvelous dangling ornamental bramble balls with festive ribbons, and strung white Xmas lighting lining the rear windows. 5 booths and 5 tables, a pair of TV's hanging above and a big board listing the tap selections.
A tower of 10 taps on the bar and a few more on the end. Nearly half of them regional (Barley Creek Angler Black Lager, Navigator Golden Ale, Rescue IPA & Antler Brown Ale, Legacy Triple H, and Yuengling), one not so regional (Summit Great Northern Porter), imports (Urthel Hop It, Youngs Oatmeal Stout, La Chouffe, Corsendonk Xmas, Guinness, Harp) and Coors Light. Also a fairly extensive bottled list. Well over 200 bottles (listed in a beer guide, with the selection broken out mostly by country, and then a few pages on beer terminology, label translations, pronunciations, and a listing of descriptions of dozens of beer styles, along with examples of the beer style and food recommendations, very thorough). 14 Trappist Belgians from Achel, Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle and Westvleteren (they've got the Westie 12 but it's pricey, you've got to pay to play), another 4 dozen Belgians (Fantome, Kasteel, Geants, Bink, Piraat, Rodenbach, Hanssens, Duvel, Flemish Primitive, Maredsous, Corsendonk, Val-Dieu, Triple Karmaliet, Delirium, Chouffe), some 6 dozen American micros (Bells, 3 Floyds, Smutty, Allagash, Left Hand, Summit, Great Divide, Rogue, Stone, Victory, Weyerbacher, Southampton, DogFishHead, Elysian, Flying Fish, Middle Ages), 2 dozen Germans, a dozen and a half English, a dozen and a half "American Standards" (mostly crappy macros referred to as "Super Bowl Sponsors" in an earlier version of the beer guide and "American Adjunct Lagers" in the updated version), nearly 3 dozen other various beers, a half dozen maltos and a pair of NA's.
We did lunch here. I had the fiery orange wings and the Kummelweck (french dip). Food was solid, and I enjoyed our server, playful and attentative while others did not, but it's really all about "the me" anyway. It's a good comfortable joint, solid beer selection.

I was turned onto this place by Lew Bryson's "Best of 2005" list.

I had no idea this place, let alone the town, existed. It is easy to find. I will let you figure out how to get there but it is less than a mile off the Quakertown exit.

It maybe very old but from inside & out it has been renovated. I might have given a higher score for atmosphere had they done more to preserve the original look of this 18th Century establishment. BTW, it is no longer a hotel.

The menu was the same for the restaurant and the bar. I would say the entrees were similar to what you would see at The Drafting Room. I mean it was a twist on traditional American fare...like the addition of game meats (i.e Ostrich and Bison). It was as if you took the menu at Monk's and combine it with the pub grub served at The Ten Stone. The exceptional food options pair well with the beers. The menu was only missing a cheese plate. If you are vegan, the only real option would be pasta. At the time of writing, the website was in the process of updating the menu. Speaking of their website, it was well organized and had a bottled list.

They have 10 or 11 taps. The only boring drafts were: Guinness, Yuengling and Harp. The rest were local micros that slanted towards Winter ales. There were some National micros represented plus one Irish micro (not Beamish, Murphys or Guinness). It is the bottle list that really shines. I would say they had in stock at least 100. It focused on American and European beers. The bottled list was not loaded up with too many cheap Euro-lagers or Bud/Coors clones.

What made the night really exceptional was teh performance of bartender/waiter, Hal. He is a young guy with a great knowledge of beer. He not only serves the stuff but he handles getting beers in. I can not say enough about the great service. We arrived around 9:30 on a Friday night. Hal was working the bar solo but still managed to come out to our table and take our orders. He put up with my questions and requests for samples. He did not rush us out and we were there until 2 AM.

They take all credit cards and have smoking at the bar and a smoking section of the restaurant. It is not cheap but it is on par with what you would pay in the more immediate Philly suburbs. It is well worth it so don't bitch about it not being cheap enough.

Just go people and hope Hal is working that night.

My wife took me here for my 30th. We came from The Weyerbacher Brewery and Witches Brew, so I was quite full by the time we arrived. That said, my dinner was perogies. My wife got Beef Medallions topped with Hollandaise and Crab meat which was excellent. So I gave'em a four for the food.
The Beer Selection and Barkeep knowledge was what left the impression. Old Engine Oil Reserve, Ephemere, Westy 12 (Sure, it was $20 a bottle, but it was also my birthday!) - not even the beginning of their selection. I'll be back!

The Spinnerstown Hotel is right on the main road & easily located. It’s hard to nail down exactly how old the building is, the website states various dates, one says that there was a building here circa 1750, but it doesn’t say if it this one, whilst later on it states that it was operated as an Inn from the 1840’s. It has been in the hands of the current family owners since 1959. Looks a lot different now from the old photos that adorn the walls, more modern if you will, but if you look hard you can see the old parts of the buildings & the more recent extensions/changes that must have been undertaken over the years. Today it has a very smart well-kept appearance, the white painted wooden trim contrasts well with the two storey black tiled roofs.

A sloping ramp at the front makes for easy access, though there is a rear entrance from the parking lot. Once inside the front, you are greeted with a very clean well maintained interior. As you enter the front you need to take a quick left-right through a front hallway where a handful of tall tables reside & offer views of the quiet roadside whilst being protected from the warmth of the sunshine, at least during our visit. Paneled walls everywhere & wooden floors match well with the wooden furniture. Old brewery adverts & stained glass lamp shades to lend an antique feel, some of the décor is a little weird but it seems to fit in. Overall a nice warm “Olde Worlde” charm with a modern angle to it, including a couple of large flat screens that are unobtrusive. Rooms break away in three direction from the Bar area, each one having its own character.

It was relatively quiet when we arrived, in fact it looked closed at 12:30pm but it had opened an hour earlier. Once you take the left-right chicane from the front entrance the bar runs on your right hand side perpendicular to the outside road & houses around 8 wooden chairs. This is where Erica & I decided to park ourselves. A couple of large serving fonts sprout 5 taps each, giving the punter a choice of around 10, though I did spy a lone Brooklyn Tap hidden at the far end of the Bar against the wall & it was advertising Chocolate Stout too, never did find out if it was operational.

The drafts included Fullers London Pride, Yuengling, Coors Light, Guinness, Harp, Flying Fish and Chimay Cinq Cents (White) plus a few others that may rotate, I had one of these, La Chouffe, and it was fresh & tasty. Of note was the fact that this out of the way Hotel also had Bethlehem Brew Works Peche Lambic too. Worthy of note was the fact that the Fullers London Pride was just the regular version & not the - quote “Hand Pump System” unquote - as advertised on the Website.

Behind the bar a small chalkboard lists the current favorite beer of each Server in colorful text, a neat idea. As well as the Drafts, there is a stellar Bottled Beer list as well, but you may have to ask for it. When you get list it is well laid out & includes around 50 brews from America, a dozen from Germany, 50+ from Belgium including (seemingly) the full range of all the Trappistes, another dozen from England, a handful each from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, France & Holland, a brace from Czech Republic and a few others from Thailand and Jamaica. Quite the range! Prices are high though, $20 for Westy12 anyone? I tried a Bomber Southampton Double Wit, but only because I rarely see it.

We had a couple of Servers, both were very friendly and attentive, as well as chatty and what I liked most was the fact that they were more than eager to describe each of the beers on sale to the customers, that was impressive. In fact they went one step further, a waitress that must have bee working in the back room came to the bar to pick up some drinks for the diners, she seemed new, but our server took at least 30 seconds to explain to the new waitress what the beers were, & some background to the styles & tastes. They offered tasters when asked too. Solid service all round.

Food Menu was very interesting. I opted for lunch here having the advertised Special, an Oktoberfest German Lunch that was a mélange of creamy mashed potato, carrots, beef, wurst and some gammon like ham all topped off on a massive plate with rich gravy. Took me a while to finish but the food was excellent. Erica opted for a less meaty lunch & had the Veggie wrap, served with really nice fries & malt vinegar.

A pleasant start to the day, an extremely well run establishment that has a great range of bottled brews with a few draft specials to back them up. The only draw-back to being a regular would be the prices, it ain’t cheap to drink here, unless you crack bottles of the Big3 (as I noted nearly all the other guys who sat at the bar were doing!), but that said, if I was passing nearby I would drop in for sure.

Otherwise, I would probably make my way out here once every 4 or 5 months for a bite to eat & a nice range of beers to finish with. Thanks to Erica for the ride out here.
