Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
An authentic example of a Bavarian Hefeweizen. “Hefe” means cloudy or yeasty and “weizen” means wheat. This beer is made with mostly wheat and uses a true Hefeweizen yeast that gives it a fruity, banana aroma with just a hint of cloves. The tart finish makes this the perfect summer beer.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Grainary in Mount Pleasant, SC. The appearance is a lightly murky gold color with a small white head. The aroma is banana and some wheat. The taste is wheat and cloves with some banana in the background.

I liked it but my family was not as much of a fan of the banana taste. I'm a pretty big Hefe fan and this is isn't the best but still solid and worth trying. Its on the lighter side of Hefe as far as mouthfeel. I'd like it a bit thicker.

Easily one of my favorite beers to drink during the spring and summer. Fruity with strong hints of banana. Just a little bit tart. Drinks very well.

A pretty good hefe, burnt orange color with appropriate head which does not take long to dissipate. You smell banana, a little clove and wheat, a little extra, though, from what you might expect. You will taste a little spice and don't be surprised if the spicy, bananay sweet finish lasts a bit. Medium body. This one is a little more true to form than what you might expect from some who call themselves "hefe".

A: Hazy light gold color, 1 inch off white head, good lacing

S: Banana, clove, bubblegum, bandaid

T: Sweet wheat malts, banana, clove, bubblegum, bandaid

M: Light to medium

O: Really good Hefeweizen. This is one of my favorite styles and I love to see American craft brewers give us their version. A really great representation.

Poured into weizen glass. It pours a cloudy, golden-orange color with a thin, milk-white head and minimal lacing. It smells of yeast, banana, orange, clove, wheat cracker, and a whiff of tobacco. It tastes like a classic hefeweizen, except that the flavors were rather subdued. There was less sweet citrus and it was a little more tart than I anticipated. There was no date on the bottle and the taste may have fallen off a little. That said, it's not a bad rendition of the style particularly when compared with its German cousins. It's light in body, nicely carbonated, and with an ABV of 5% it is welcome on a hot day. Overall, it's a creditable American Hefeweizen. It isn't Weihanstefphaner, Franziskaner or Ayinger but it is comparable to Flying Dog and close to Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis.

Usually, am not a hefe fan but I tried this during a brewery tour and it was awesome and really took me for a surprise. Definitely would drink this again!
