Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Many Mexican beer styles today are descendants of old Austrian styles, from when Austria ruled Mexico in the late 19th century. Our Dos Perros is made with German Munich malt, English Pale malt, and Chocolate malt, and hopped with Perle and Saaz hops. To lighten the body, as many Mexican brewers do, we add a small portion of flaked maize. The result is a wonderfully bready malt aroma, balanced with some maize sweetness and a noble hop finish.

Pours dark brown with an redish tint and very little head. What there is is a thin swirl that eventually disappears completely. Smells earthy, a bit roasty and a touch of piney hops. The taste is sweeter and exhibits some cookie like malt, and a touch of adjunct sweetness, with some fruity flavors up front as well. It drys out a bit toward the end and becomes roastier and earthier. Pretty light overall, but nicely flavorful for the low abv. Smooth and easy to drink, although its a bit club soda like in body right at the beginning. A nice session option.

This is a dark brown beer with a decent head and a mildly malty aroma. It is nice and refreshing with a well carbonated but light mouthfeel. The malt is slightly toasted, and finishes with a bit of sweetness that settles into a subtle hoppiness. Not a bad beer for an afternoon break.

Dark beer that is incredibly light and easy to drink. You would not realize how light it is upon pouring.

Sweet, low bitterness, great summer beer despite the color.

Crushable.

Yazoo’s Dos Perros has a thin, off-white head, not much lacing, and a clear, bubbly, rust-brown appearance. The aroma is of pungent, full, brown bread crust and syrupy sweetness, with a background of corn. Taste is of sweet, brown bread crust, underlying corn, and a touch of molasses. No bitterness, here. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Dos Perros finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and easy drinking. Overall, this is very enjoyable.

Reviewed at Broadway Brewhouse in Nashville, TN; full phone notes taken.

A- Poured from a tap to a pint glass with a dark ruby red, brown center body. A head forms to close to a finger with a white hue and foamy consistency. Decent head retention falling to a small ring with spots of lace once in a while.

S- Malty with some defined fruity yeast character. Toasted and nutty malts are most of the show with some caramel and dark fruits from the yeast. Decent strength for only 3.5%.

T- Yeast character seems to open up and just about strike a balance half way with the malts. Raisin, apple and cherry fruits meld with toasted, nutty, slight cocoa, caramel and medium sweets from the grains. Bread and a defined spicy hop finish.

MF- Very light bodied for a Brown but it can afford to be at 3.5% with the presented flavor. Foamy and lightly frothy. Carbonation smooth at a medium level.

Light sessionable Brown Ale with a malty and yeasty flavor finished with spicy Noble hops.

I poured this from a bottle into a Yazoo pint glass which was quickly lined with bubbles. The carbonation was extreme with bubbling forcing its way to the top with the effervescence of Alka Seltzer.

The aroma had a chocolate malt fragrance with some caramel underpinnings but it was airy; if that even seems possible.

The flavor was light with chocolate malts, caramel, and a light hop profile. The flavors were lifted off the tongue with a rush of bubbles and basically erased any real taste.

The feel was also deeply influenced by the high carbonation. Airy and expansive the bubbling caused a small bit of sharpness in the throat.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Thanks go out to Supernova777 for this beer at a recent tasting. Josh...well I got nothing else.

A- Pours a darker brown color. I am actually surprised by this for some reason..don't know why. One finger tan head shows poor retention and lace falls back into the glass as I drink this one done.

S- A light toasted malt scent comes out with this one at first. A nutty aroma comes through more and more as the beer itself warms. The hops in this one are minimal in the backend...there is a light sourness to these as well. Don't know if that is suppose to be there or not. Overall the whole aroma is a little muted throwing it into the average range.

T- The taste follows the aroma pretty well. There is a light toasted/roasted malt in the front with maybe a hint of sweet milk chocoalte. The nutty aroma has now turned into a middle flavor in the beer itself along with a light almost bready malt backbone. A interesting coffee hint comes in the backend before turning to light hop bite. The alcohol never really comes into play very much if at all.

M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Light watery caramel malts with a hint of rpasted malt are left on the palate. A faint hop bite with some alcohol is left in the aftertaste. Light drying on the palate from the alcohol. Flavors were a little watery and muted but otherwise I would say pretty balanced. No real off flavors at all.

D- This beer was very drinkable. It's nothing special at all and I can respect that as just a easy drinking brown ale. ABV is low that you can make this a nice session beer. Not bad from a company that I look forward to trying more of in the future.

A dark brown color with a bit of red. An interesting take on an Austrian/Mexican hybrid style beer. A guinness-esque aroma. The taste has bits of coffee and chocolate latter is more noticeable in the aftertaste. Again, always a pleasure to support the local Brewery.
