A rich, chocolaty English Porter with a clean finish. We use the finest floor-malted Maris Otter malts from England, the same malts used for the best single-malt scotch. A portion of malted rye gives a spicy, slightly dry finish.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Minimal head that quickly dissipates. When it does, it appears exactly like a flat diet Coke would.
Smells of peppery chocolate with a slight whiff of biscuit. Nose is fairly light.
Medium viscosity with a slight bit of over carbonation prevailing.
To be honest, I expected a little more out of the taste. Has a burnt roast feel to it with a somewhat flat finish, even for a Porter. The rye does shine through which is it's one lone saving grace.

Look: Pours a cola shade of brown that's slightly tawny around the edges with a nice one finger head of beige foam. Leaves very little lacing.
Aroma: Sweet tobacco, caramel, chocolate covered raisins.
Taste: Moderately sweet notes of tobacco followed by red fruit flavors of caramel apples, raisins, and even dates. Ends on some smoky/dry notes of black coffee.
Feel: Light bodied but somewhat hearty, low carbonation. Slick mouthfeel that isn't slimy or anemic. Refreshing.
Overall: Really pleasant to drink, great little porter.

Clear cola brownish-black with a tall puffy tan foam head.
Just a simple, classic porter with a slight rye accent. It's got a light cola tang over notes of cocoa and a sort of root bitterness with a tobacco twang and roast. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
The light body has a mild froth and finishes semi-dry.

Chocolate, rye, dark grains with slight tangy bitters at the end. Well done!

12 oz bottle purchased from Kroger's in Nashville.
Ommegang Snifter.
Has a dirty dark brown color with a tall creamy head of 3 fingers, receding to 1, leaving connected splashy lacing.
Chocolate, marshmallow, and spicy rye on the nose in spades. Nice. Smells like a hot cocoa with something extra.
Flavor brings a nice milk chocolate presence, which falls away to mild spicy rye and graininess, with more cocoa/marshmallow and some roasted coffee.
Feel is empty and thin but makes up for it on the back half with a roasted, dry finish that coats the palate with mild stickiness and very mild heat.
Overall a super enjoyable porter that I'll be sure to pick up more of next time I'm down that way.

Sly Rye has a thick, beige head, a dark brown appearance, and no lacing. The aroma is of spicy dark malts, but the flavor is mainly of water, with some dark-roasted malt and cream. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Sly Rye finishes medium dry.

On-tap at The Flying Saucer, Memphis, TN
A: The beer is black when viewed from afar but when held up to a bright light it is very dark red in color. It poured with a thin off white collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolate and malt extracts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a little bit of associated sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is nice and chocolatey and malty, but I didn't get any rye or associated spiciness, which would have lended an interesting contrast to the taste.
Serving type: on-tap

While having a Coca-Cola brown color, it’s similar to enjoying creamy light coffee with some rye, caramel and chestnuts to round it out. Roasty grain, light roast and subtle rye is part of the aroma, as it finishes with a light coffee and rye aftertaste to compliment its subtle carbonation. This is a refreshing porter and a much better example of how to use rye in a beer. Other good use of rye is the Rebel Kent the 1sts from 3 Sheeps Brewery and the Rye-on-Rye from Boulevard Brewing Company.
