Style: Baltic Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The south is famous for smoking everything. Why not beer? Sue is a big, rich, smoky malt bomb of a beer, with mellow smokiness coming from barley malts smoked with cherry wood, and assertive bitterness from Galena and Perle hops to cleanse the finish.

Original tap version was 7.5% ABV, bottled version is up to 9%.

1 PINT 9.4 FLUID OUNCE bottle
Served in a snifter

L - I'll call it black. No light comes through when held to the light. It is capped with an inch of tan head with not a lot of lacing.

S - The smell is great. I get chocolate and roasted malt, and, of course, smoke.

T - The taste matches the smell. I get a great chocolate porter taste up front. Then comes the smoke. It is not overpowering, but it is well represented.

F - Thick, creamy, smooth

O - This is a great smoked porter. The base porter taste is fantastic. The smoke might actually be a detriment to the wonderful porter, but it does compliment it well. I am enjoying this beer immensely and now crave barbecue.

A: Pours pitch black with some brown boundaries. The off-white head is about an inch or two with some retention and lacing

S: Stylish combination of smoke, coffee, roast, chocolate, fruit, earth and malt

T: Absolutely love the smoke and cherry and just the overall complexity you get with this product: coffee, cocoa, caramel, chocolate, and toffee, roasted malts, leather and velvety. Sat on this a bit and enjoyed it ever so much as it warmed up a bit

M: Medium carbonation, medium body, extremely smooth and creamy, and a nice finish

O: I’m a sucker for a peaty scotch = sucker for a smoky beer, regardless of the brewers preference: rauchbier; smoked lager; smoked porter; intricacies of a smoked sour; etc. Sue is top of its class; stands out amongst the best, and if you’re a fan of the genre than it’s a must – A beautifully well-crafted, smooth, delicious, smoked beverage
