I have to say that this is the only beer from the DAM brewery that I do not like. It poured a cloudy amber yellow color with a thin head with almost no retention. The smell was almost not there and it tasted overly bitter and I found this one completely unenjoyable. But dont worry the other beers from Dam brewery make up for it.

A - YELLOW ORANGE COLOR WITH A NICE 1 FINGER HEAD.

S - NICE FRESH CUT GRASS HOPPY SMELL TOO IT. SEEMS A LITTLE ON THE OVERPOWERING SIDE.

T - VERY BITTER. STRONG THROUGHOUT THE EXPERIENCE.

M - CONSISTANT BITTERNESS FROM WHEN IT HITS YOUR LIPS TO WHEN YOU SWALLOW!

D - NAH!! AFTERTASTE IS FLAT OUT TERRIBLE. VERY MUSKY.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. No freshness date. "Dillon Dam Brewery" or "Dam Brewery" ... they make multiple references on the label.

Appearance: Pours a very cloudy orange amber. It was clear at first, but then I shitload of dregs poured out into my glass -- they don't state that this is a very unfiltered brew. Head is pillowy white with a creamy stickiness.

Smell: Wonderful hop nose of pungent citrus, with a backdrop of biscuit grain.

Taste: Upfront the flavour is rather bland. There's a decent amount of malt body, but no distinct sweetness or flavour. Carbonation is fizzy on the palate. Yeast flavours show themselves, followed by a piney hop character that is backed by a rindy bitterness. Medicinal flavours are also detected. Finish is semi-astringent and dry.

Notes: A very unusual ale, but not in the good sense. Unbalanced and unexciting. The label states "you'll taste the Dam Difference". Well I have, but it isn't this beer.

Thanks to Arctic Liquors for the sample.

like a homebrew by someone just learning. pours a hazy orange color with a nice white head and some nasty looking floasting yeast bits. this is a pale ale right? smells very very average, a malt based beer for sure, but nothing outstanding here. flavor is the same, rather boring, plenty of pale malt, slight bitterness. mouthfeel is fine, medium bodied and well carbonated. overall just a pretty amateur brew through and through, which surprised me because the brown ale they make is so good. skip this one

A-looks good nice color, no complaints here

S-decent smell very citrusy...

T-taste good not very balanced, too much bitter not enough maltiness, hop (citrus) flavour dominance

M- not enogh body for the hop

O-would order it again in a bar dependent upon the selection but would never buy it...I did have a del Norte before I drank this beer due to being at a mexican restaurant and anyone who knows anything about beer knows del Norte is a joke, so I could be giving this beer a better rating than deserved...dependent upon the selection at the bar (for me this vs breck avalanche) this beer is worth a shot

Lite pale ale, very drinkable. Very pale color, with high carb and good head. Excellent hop character. A lite refreshing beer. Not a lot of malt or body, but balanced. Pretty light for an APA, almost edging on a hopy golden.

12 oz. bottle tried 9 Mar 2009.

Poured in Sierra Nevada pint glass. Large yellowish head. Lightly carbonated. Clear dark almond colored. Aroma is light resin and caramel. Begins with a fair amount of resiny bitterness and mmoderate malt. Becomes earthy through the middle. Finish is lightly citrus and bittersweet. Light body, dry mouthfeel.

This was a little better from the bottle than on tap.

I have had this beer on tap as well as from a bottle and there is a difference in favor of on tap. From the tap, the pour is a darker shade of yellow that is close to amber. A nice soft white head with good retention and limited lacing.

The nose has more of a hop balance. Some citrus and piney undertones blends well and gives it a almost herbal quality. The malt is noticeable with lighter bready and English malt feel. Some spicy qualities as well. A hint of white pepper and some feint bubblegum.

The taste is more balanced but limited. The malt comes out with more of a sweet caramel flavor with a more generic 2 row malt taste. The hops are toned down with more finishing hops and not much bittering hops. More citrus then piney and some grassy undertones as well. Some fruity flavors, figs and strawberries but light overall. The bottle is a bit harsher in my opinion.

The body was mid to light with a soft texture. This really varies from bottle. Overall it's kind of interesting see the difference between bottle and tap but an ok APA either way.

Almost two years since someone reviewed this.
Looks like it was shaky or didn't travel well in the past.
A friend brought me 6 straight from the brewery.

Good carbonation gave me a nice whiff of hops and poured a bubbly dark gold head. Medium bodied with decent ale character.
I found this refreshing, with hints of evergreen and citrus.

The finish got me ready for more.Definitely worth a repeat visit.

12oz bottle from Mentor as part of BIF 33/The Race - Team Spring. Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a dense 1/2" off-white head above the clear amber brew. Head disappears quicker than I thought it would, down to an uneven layer of bubbles, with average lacing. Aroma is a little cooked veggie over the pale malts, but the floral hops do make a valiant effort to dominate. Taste is pretty pedestrian, yet nothing detracts, which is always a good thing. Just a relatively balanced brew, tending towards hops bitterness. Mouthfeel and drinkability are not too bad either. Seems like this one just stays the course, offending no one, but not really going for the gusto either. There is a place for these beers.
